This property is a hidden gem!! Everything about it was just luxurious!! I was hesitant to see its location was next to a train station but we never heard it (or saw it) and we had views looking out over it. Love the free Matcha/coffee station and at different times of the day they will have different freebies for you to try. Eg. Ice cream, yakult, juices, teas. The private onsens are magnificent! Make sure you spend the time checking them all out, we didn’t make it to the public ones. The whole resort has tatami flooring so no shoes while walking between room/restaurant/onsen etc. you’re instantly immersed into Japanese culture. Next you can hire a Yukata to wear around the resort (and outside if you dare) so you also look the part. Pack lightly, unless you’re venturing outside you won’t need much clothing.

We were disappointed that we didn’t get the free noodles served between 10.30pm-11.30pm. The line up was huge! I’d suggest lining up early - it’s very popular. You will also be up for extra charges outside of the booking.com room charge. One charge is a local tax and the other is the hot spring tax. All up for 2 people for 1 night we were charged $7AUD, so it wasn’t a lot but just not expected. Staff spoke ‘ok’ English but locker numbers and room numbers are all in Japanese symbols.

This is a very traditional onsen. Dated, but that's the charm of it. You will find many local Japanese family staying here. There are five private baths and they are easily available. The water is very hot, so nobody stays there long. For western tourists it is very exotic - from the sleepers and clothing they give you to Japanese style breakfast.

We appreciated the Japanese style breakfast, but could not enjoy it. It is not hotels fault by no means. We are not used to this type of food in the morning, even though it was amazingly presented and very authentic. We ended up in 7/11 next door ( it is very convenient!! ) buying yogurt and croissants.

Loved our stay here. The room whilst small was lovely. We made lots of visits to the onsen, I think it was great they were private onsens with a queue system. Perhaps one of the baths was a little on the unclean side, but they certainly seem to clean them daily and it didn't bother us too much. Generally the onsen was great, with lots of different styles, and nice to have some that were open-air. lovely option for free ice creams as well, a nice touch. We would have made use of the late night free ramen too but it wasn't clear where to go for this. But overall a lovely stay. It's just opposite the train station so incredibly convenient and staff were incredibly helpful especially with help forwarding our luggage to the next hotel. We loved that the whole hotel was mainly tatami mat flooring and that you had to take off your shoes at reception. The traditional japanese breakfast was also brilliant, so many seasonal dishes, very filling! I would wholeheartedly recommend the Sagano romantic train and Hozugawa boat trip, and Takara sushi just down the road (5 seat sushi restaurant run by the loveliest couple, who were very nice, excellent hospitality, and delicious food. They were very complimentary of our limited japanese). It's also a good place to stay for people heading to the bamboo grove, and convenient so you can go at less busy times. We also enjoyed a trip to Saihoji temple about 30-40 minutes walk away, as well as Otagi nenbutsu-ji temple to the North.

We booked a room with the private outdoor onsen. The room was spacious and was a perfect combination of traditional aesthetics and modern comfort. The outdoor onsen on our balcony was big enough for 2 - which is more than I expected before arriving. The staff were very helpful, welcoming and friendly. The room and other amenities (such as the restaurant and private onsens (the ones downstairs and useable by all guests) were clean and presented really well. While we were there, we had no issues getting into any of the private onsens we wanted straight away, and it also seems everyone is really respectful of the suggested time-frame (50 minutes I believe it was) to ensure others can use the facilities.

The hotel is in a very fresh condition, the atmosphere is luxury and cozy. The room was spacious and we were lucky to have a wonderful balcony. The private onsens (which you don't need to book, but may need to wait in a line to use) are of unique variety: from Europe-inspired saunas to traditional Japanese open-air baths. The public onsens are also good quality, with both indoor and open-air baths (paved in large stones), and great amenities. The food is of good quality. The location is very quiet, but right next to the train station, and with a great walking path towards the Arashiyama sightseeings. Kyoto is also easily reachable by train within 30 minutes.

There are definitely too few yukatas available to the guests. At a late check-in, I could only get the last male yukata, of a totally wrong size, so could not even use it. The pajama provided in the room was lovely, though. The lines for the private onsens were generally no issue, but left some unorderly impression. Would be nice to reduce usage time to 1 hour during prime time.

The hot springs are fantastic. So is the view. The facility is clean although aged, but best maintained. The service is excellent at dining and room cleanup. Many small things that keep the guests in heart are appreciated. For example, they provide pajamas for kids. Also accommodating kids at meals.

It might need some renovation soon as molds were visible especially in the bathrooms. Wish during booking it could allow a simple click of meals included or not for each day. Currently, you either book the entire stay with or without meals or have to book separately for different needs of the days.

Everything was great! Recommend booking this. The public onsen with steam and dry sauna & hostsprings was incredible. The private onsens were nice as well and only sometimes there was a waiting time. Free snacks and drinks. Dinner and breakfast was great (Allthough i think for this price you can get better dinner somewhere else but eating after an onsen in your yakuta in a private booth made it special). Very close to bamboo forest and great location for exploring area. Very helpful staff.

It is a bit worn and rooms are dusty but everything else was so good we did not mind. The view from our room was also a bit uninspired (parking lot) but again everything else was great we did not mind.

Great value for money if you're after a well-rounded ryokan and onsen experience in a peaceful part of the city surrounded by nature and fresh air. While the property has a traditional and slightly dated feel, it carries its own unique charm. The breakfast and dinner were exceptional, especially for the price. The onsen offered excellent beauty products and amenities, plus thoughtful extras like free ramen at 10 pm, ice cream, snacks, and additional spa packages for those wanting to fully unwind. I got both meals but you could pick just one.

One thing to note is that check-in is on the later side at 3pm and check-out quite early, which makes it tricky to fully enjoy the onsen if you're only staying one night. Realistically, you'll likely only visit the oncen once, as breakfast tends to take over the morning before the 11 a.m. check-out.

The friendly and helpful staff, breakfast (Oishi), the late night ramen(it was perfect timing as we got hungry around the offered time as there were no restaurants around that were open), the private onsens on the 1st floor had several choices to chose from (although we had an in room osen, we tried the private onsen on the main floor that was out doors). I would stay at this hotel again.

We attempted to reserve a massage treatment over the phone, however we were told we need to come in person at 5pm to make an appointment. It was difficult to communicate on the phone. In person it was easier to communicate as they used a translation app on their iPad. Massage was excellent.

Wonderfully relaxing stay, that really made me feel welcome. Staff were superb, and while there was a lot to keep in mind (taking off shoes, japanese ettiquete for bathing and dining, figuring out japanese buttons!) there were english instructions on most things. There are a range of private baths, including a sauna and a radium bath! I used these due to having tattoos, but did not feel left out at all. The meals were very good, very tasty and so filling!! You'll want to make sure you have room for all the delicious food! The room was spacious with a balcony and the setting very peaceful. Even though it is very close to the train station, it was very quiet! The location is close to bamboo grove and monkey park, as well as many other temples, shrines and places of interest if you want to avoid the crowds
