They offer everything I was looking for in a ryokan experience. Outdoor baths were hot spring sourced. Food was amazing, the best meal I had in Japan. Will go back here even just to eat. The location is great too. Many scenic places to walk around with your yukata on including the bamboo forest.
Everything was going well until around midnight, when I witnessed a cockroach coming out of the toilet room and crawling in multiple places in the main room afterwards. We then went to reception and there was no one there, but eventually someone came and accommodated us. I wish they had extended my stay instead of checking out at 11am as I didn’t sleep well at night due to the incident.

Warm and helpful staff, great hospitality, cosy and well-designed room, and impressive in-room onsen - the fine detail has exceeded my expectations. Staff volunteered to take photo in the front terrace. She got impeccable photo-shooting skills (with my iPhone 13 Pro Max) and I don’t need to touch up the photos at all. As a totally amateurish iPhone user I do have a lot to learn from her. A bit pitiful is that I didn’t read clearly the fine prints on booking.com so only breakfast was included. However, the breakfast, served in-room, was fabulous - nice portion and remarkable taste that did energise me for the long day ahead. Food is clearly better than another ryokan across the bridge that I stayed for 2 nights last time. I’ll definitely come back for the dinner. Not to mention that I miss the really really sweet team : )
Everything is awesome.

Food was amazing and the service was excellent. The location is beautiful - we had a Japanese style room with a private outdoor bath tub (which we didn't realise we would get!) which overlooked the river and the forest. We got up early before breakfast to go see the bamboo forest at a tip from the staff and it's much less crowded early on. To be honest if we'd gone all the way to Arashiyama just to see the bamboo I think we would have been disappointed, but this stay made it worthwhile!
We had to pay extra for drinks at dinner which we didn't realise beforehand, but the sake was delicious.

The service was excellent. Every staff we met was kind, friendly, and thoughtful. They even helped us book a reservation for dinner in town which was delicious and welcoming to foreigners Plus, the facilities were comfortable, clean, well-maintained, and even had a section that looked to be recently remodeled. We also loved the food! Every meal was different, delicious, and impeccably timed to fit into our schedule. Fabulous location by the river!
We had a neighbor who had his podcast on full volume, outside his room (when we were in the open-air onsen), which disturbed the peace, but that's no fault of Rangetsu or their staff. Truly, overall it was exceptionally quiet and very relaxing.

From the moment we stepped into Ryotei Rangetsu and the staff greeted us warmly by name, until the moment we departed and they carried our bags to the front gate for us, we experienced nothing but the highest level of hospitality that went above and beyond our expectations. Yamaguchi-san and the rest of the staff took excellent care of us during our stay. They were polite, friendly, attentive, and cordial all without being overbearing or insincere. The room, private onsen, and public onsen were so comfortable, calming, and relaxing, and just what we needed after many days on the road. The inside of the rooms and building are clean, elegant, and peaceful. The views facing the river and mountains are beautiful and serene. The waters of the baths are invigorating and rejuvenating. It was well worth every penny to have such an environment that seemed perfectly crafted to help us rest up and recharge for the rest of our trip. The hotel breakfast was delicious and filling and they even accommodated my request for a vegetarian menu. When I told them that my wife and I were staying for our honeymoon trip, they surprised us with a lovely surprise of a special complementary dish in our dessert course! The location is ideally located just across the Togetsu bridge, and we were able to easily walk around and experience the beautiful sights of Arashiyama. We woke up at 5am to walk through the bamboo grove, located only about 5-10 minutes from the front gate, and were able to have a nice hour plus walk before coming back to enjoy our breakfast. We checked out of the hotel at 11am and the staff kindly stored our luggage for us while we continued to explore Arashiyama for the rest of the day. We had a lot of fun renting kimonos, walking around Arashiyama, and visiting the many cute shops. At the end of the day before we had to head to Kyoto, the staff kindly let me shower again in the public bath before we collected our luggage. Many thanks and we can't wait to return!!
We only wish we could have stayed longer! We are still in the middle of our honeymoon at the time of writing this review, but this stay was such a highlight that we had to take the time to leave a positive review. Arashiyama is such an amazing destination but our stay at Ryotei Rangetsu elevated the experience to an entirely higher level. Thank you Ryotei Rangetsu for the unforgettable memories you've helped us create for our honeymoon!

The staff were so welcoming and helpful. It was a peaceful stay. Despite some construction work outside, no noise came through into our room. The suite was beautiful and the half-outdoor bath was stunning! We had a kaiseki dinner and breakfast, both were delicious and had a beautiful assortment of food.
I would have liked to try the public bath, but I have large tattoos and could not. I recognize that this is my own problem, and nothing that the hotel needs to change!

The service of the staff was amazing from before arrival through after our stay. Before arrival, i bombarded them with dozens of questions, and they responded promptly and helpfully to each one of them. During our stay, we had a personal butler attend to our dinner, bedding, and every need. During check-out, there was a little hiccup with arranging our bags for delivery to our next hotel, but the staff offered to personally deliver our luggage instead which ensured our travel plans were not affected in any way.

Stunning views from the private onsen attached to the room courtyard, you can hear the river at night and see the cherry blossoms and mountains from the tub. A separate bathing tub inside the unit allows you to open the door fully and experience the same sights and sounds. There is a room service to clean, make the beds, restock the fridge, tea, towels, and provide clean yakatas. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable, and I felt taken care of. The food service was undoubtedly a top highlight to my stay, aside from the serene environment.

The inn was big and clean, and the dinner was very delicious. Thanks to the kind staff every time, I felt as if they were entertaining me, and the inn was warm. It is located in a busy area and it is very good to enjoy traveling, and the open-air bath was also very good! Above all、 a staff member named kaho(?) was very kind among the staff members of the inn, and I felt very good whenever I faced each other. All the staff at Rangetsu were kind, but kaho was especially kind. Please say thank you even though I don't know the exact name of the employee! I hope to visit again next time. Have a nice winter :)

Rangetsu was top-notch. The hotels exquisite -- an oasis in the middle Arashiyama, which was very very crowded by day with tourists. The staff were amazing -- Professional, kind, always anticipating our needs from the minute we entered the lobby. Ami, our host, was excellent. Every kaiseki meal we had in our room, she was there and explained every nuance of the meal -- we were spoiled. The in-room onsen facing the Katsura River was a bonus luxury. Will definitely come back here.
It was perfect?
