Staff are so pleasing and accommodating it is incredible, traditional stay and food is a must do when in Arishiyama. The Eido style greeting, dinner/breakfast as well as tatami room was a highlight of our trip. Location is within 10min walking distance of bamboo forest and monkey forest, and hosts its own private and open air onsen pools. Give it a look

Traditional bedding takes a bit to get used to

I really wanted the traditional Japanese Ryokan with onsen experience and Hanaikada exceeded my expectations. Staff is great, everything is very clean. Dinner was on time and hot with several courses. Lemon sake? Yes please! The menu was all Japanese, so I used my translation app to decipher it. My daughter is less adventurous and ate about 1/2 the meal. Everything very fresh and beautifully presented. The Onsen was hot and clean. They have indoor and outdoor- I did both. Outdoor I had all to myself. Breakfast was plentiful. Again, a delicious Japanese breakfast- have you ever had freshly made tofu? We each had a personal pot made there on the table while we ate. It was delicious. Location is IDEAL. Down the path from Monkey park, walk over the bridge to shops.

Hanaikada did everything right! I was not used to sleeping on the futon and tatami. It look a while for me to fall asleep.

We reserved the private bath on the roof around sunset. There was an amazing view of the Katsura river. The bath itself was set up nicely and we were escorted up there by staff. The half board dinner and breakfast were delicious and well presented. Staff was accommodating at all times. They gave us free yuzu juice that was really good.

The booking process was not too easy. I first booked on the official website, but could not designate that I wanted a river view room. I canceled and rebooked on Booking.com because it seems you can select the exact room that you want. We loved our room, but can’t say if we would have gotten it if we didn’t rebook. Still glad it worked out in the end.

Amazing location right on the water and central to the bamboo grove etc so perfect opportunity to do those specific activities. Space was beautiful and traditional. Room was even better than we expected. Futons were comfortable. Private onsen was amazing, clean, peaceful and bathroom facilities were clean and spacious. Dinner was served to us the night we checked in, the dinner service was wonderful. The dinner was definitely a traditional Japanese course with lots of raw fish and unique offerings which might not suit picky eaters or anyone who doesn’t like fish or is interested in trying different things. Breakfast was absolutely delicious.

A traditional stay that we enjoyed Rooftop, outdoor onsen was great fun. Dinner service, in room was a great experience with some interesting dishes Full breakfast served, again, with some interesting dishes. a real Japanese experience Location is fantastic overlooking the river and close to bamboo forest and temples. A boat ride is a must.

The room was on the worn side, musty & dusty. We stayed 1 night so not a issue.

The hotel has a superior geographical location, located in the central area of Lanshan Duyue Bridge, just 10 steps away. The hotel belongs to Japanese architectural style with a long history, surrounded by old buildings. The hotel bedroom is large, and the bathtub and shower are standard, with dry and wet separation. The hotel is cleaned very clean. The service staff are very considerate and carefully wipe every piece of luggage. The breakfast and dinner at the hotel are also great, worth recommending and experiencing. The restaurant environment and breakfast quality are very high, and the key services are very considerate.

Our stay at Hanaikada while visiting Arashiyama exceeded our expectations in every way. This traditional ryokan-style hotel has fantastic hot spring baths, delicious Japanese cuisine, and outstanding hospitality. The location right next to Togetsukyo Bridge was ideal for sightseeing in Arashiyama. I could take in views of the bridge and river from my room's window. It was quick walk to Tenryuji Temple, bamboo forest, and more sights. The traditional multi-course kaiseki dinner served in my room was another highlight. It featured the freshest local ingredients like river fish, pickled vegetables, and seafood. A true Japanese culinary experience!

Kyo-kaiseki dinner course was fascinating and beautifully staged in an array of adorable ceramics. There was always tea provide in our room. All the necessary toiletries were provided to clean before entering the pools. The staff were very friendly and spoke decent English.

The shower attached to our room was... not great. Since the communal shower areas were so great, we simply didn't use our private shower. The toilet and sink areas were fantastic though.

Incredible authentic ryokan experience, with 2 hour omakase style dinner service, private and public onsen, and very attentive service. Everything is meticulously planned and communicated well.
