Staying at Momijiya Annex was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in a lush mountainous area along a serene river, the setting was absolutely captivating—tranquil, scenic, and the perfect escape from the city. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, making us feel genuinely welcomed from the moment we arrived. The meals were a true highlight—each dish beautifully prepared with generous portions and incredible flavor, showcasing the best of Japanese cuisine. Our private onsen was pure bliss, offering complete relaxation with a breathtaking view. Wearing the yukata and fully embracing the traditions of Japanese hospitality added a special cultural touch to our stay. Every detail was thoughtful and authentic. I can’t recommend Momijiya Annex highly enough for anyone seeking peace, beauty, and a truly immersive ryokan experience.

WOW!!! This was my big hotel splurge for my trip to Japan, and it did NOT disappoint! The staff spoiled us rotten and even accommodated an extra person added to my travel party at the last minute. They greeted us on the road leading in and showed us where to park, then they carried our bags in for us. One of my friends had dietary restrictions, and the staff was so accommodating and prepared special food for her. The private bath in our room was PHENOMENAL, and the public baths were clean and so relaxing. The food was incredible, and they will feed you till you pop. The location was gorgeous. I can't rave enough about this place!!!

The meals were DELICIOUS - the food, value/portions, and service all really exceeded our expectations. It was fun to learn about the traditional garments and wear those while on site. The room was comfortable and clean. The outside tub at our room was pre-heated and lovely. The welcome we received was warm and the tea service in our room was also welcoming and a nice touch. They also offered a shuttle to/from the train station, which was a nice feature.

The room was a bit less luxurious than it appeared in the fish-eye pictures on the Booking.com page. The tub was a bit smaller than expected, the decor was a little shabby, but overall we really enjoyed our stay. Overall worth the price, but a little under expectations based on the photos we had seen.

Absolutely beautiful experience in a gorgeous location. From the shuttle bus collecting us at the station to staff waving farewell as we left, we were treated with care and attention. The location is exceptional and our outdoor bath was perfect to unwind in. Dinner on the river was extraordinary and we were lucky enough to be there for firefly season- watching the lights flickering through the trees was really special. Breakfast was just as elaborate as dinner. This was a special treat at the end of a week in Kyoto and I’m really glad we made time for it.

This was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. My fiancé and I had a lovely romantic day here with our own mini onsen, luxurious traditional food, and in a beautiful natural setting. The staff was kind and attentive, the food was excellent, and the onsen was great. We were given a yukata, which we wore the whole time. Really beautiful place, and the greenery all around just added to the great feeling. You could switch off and relax here. Really recommend this place! Would love to visit again. 🤍

Beautiful location and experience. Very very peaceful. The surroundings are stunning, make sure you take a walk around! The private bath was fabulous, and the room was very clean. The set meal was nice, and well prepared. If you don’t like “traditional” Japanese foods (tofu, pickled veg etc.) /set meals, I would enquire about the options. You can get a shuttle to and from the property from the JR station - just enquire to find out the information. I would recommend bringing some drinks and snacks (if you like that type of thing) as there isn’t much around if you want this.

The location is absolutely beautiful - you will immediately feel at peace. We went in August so the foliage was a bright vibrant green. Though communal baths are available - highly recommend getting a room with a private onsen. The accommodation is what you’d expect of a traditional style ryokan - charmingly rustic. Dinner was served outside by the river, making it feel so special. The kaiseki on the first night was delicious, but the portions were much smaller than what we previously experienced at a different ryokan. Bring some snacks with you if you have a big appetite (there is a small fridge in the rooms to keep your own food/drinks in). Thoroughly enjoyed the sukiyaki dinner on our second night - it was our first time having this dish and loved the theatre of watching the food cook in front of you. It was a lovely surprise being able to chat and take a photo with maiko (apprentice geisha) before their performance. Seeing their immaculate makeup and kimono up close makes you appreciate the effort involved. I believe this is only available Friday - Sunday so definitely plan your trip ok these days if it’s something you want to experience. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Overall a magical place. Highly recommend!!!

Would be nice if they could have reached out after booking to advise on how to get there. Though my fault - I only realised the day before that the location wasn’t within walking distance of public transport. Give them a call and request a shuttle pick up from Hanazono station. I was given the option of 3:10, 4:10 or 5:10. The driver arrived promptly and was very friendly. They can also drive you back to the station on your last day, so long as you check out at 10:15.

The bus arrived on time to fetch us from the station. When we arrived at the Annex it was like we had stepped into another world. It was so peaceful and quiet. Staff were friendly and efficient. Dinner and breakfast were exceptional. The room was comfortable and we loved having our own private hot tub.

Check-in and check-out times were quite restrictive. We had hoped to go on some of the walks and enjoy the surroundings but didn't have enough time because of the late check-in and early check-out and shuttle to the station. The check-in form said that there would be entertainment during dinner, however, this did not take place. It was other guests and not staff that told us that there was nothing else on because it was a weekday.

Amazing work, really good value for money, a best in class experience. We loved the yukata included, the lunch service was amazing and we loved the maiko's dance. I really loved the private onsen which was already prepared when we got there. On top of it, the beds were really comfortable, the included ammenities were really nice as well All I hoped after a day of travel was to be taken care of, have a long onsen session, go to eat and sleep! and here at Momijyia thats what I got, from the moment we arrived at the check in counter till we departured. I can't recommend it enough!

Between green valleys there is quiet onsen away from hustle and bustle. People were very friendly and helpful. We arrived afternoon and wanted to see Kozan-ji temple which was about to close. They gave us lift to the temple which we would have otherwise missed. Also dinner on the riverside was unique and amazing experience
