Great location and easy to find with only a short walk from the station. After spending 2 weeks travelling Japan, Hotel Kuu Kyoto was one of our favourites and we would stay here again without hesitation. We opted in for breakfast which was the right decision as there was a good variety with a mix of Japanese and western options with juices, tea and coffees. There were also options which the chefs would cook on request such as omelettes and french toast. Majority of the staff also spoke English and were so helpful by looking after our luggage before check in and would greet us each time we went past. Also one member of staff was super helpful and although there was a slight language barrier with the help of google translate he went above and beyond to help send our luggage to the next hotel, the following morning I also asked if he could call the next hotel to confirm they would be ok to receive the luggage before our arrival and all went smoothly. Very impressed with our time here and truly wish we had spent longer in Kyoto and at this hotel that the 2 nights we were here.

Terrific location! Right opposite the Higashi Hongan-ji temple which made hotel very easy to find. The onsen (sento) facilities were great. There is a large and small onsen which alternate between days for use between men and women. The larger onsen has a nice outdoor plunge pool as well as a sauna and cold water plunge indoors. Very relaxing after a hard days sightseeing. Rooms were a good size. I was sharing a twin room. Breakfast was very nice with a selection of mostly Japanese food however there were also western style options so you won’t go hungry.

Bathrooms were compact but comfortable. It is Japan after all and space is limited.

Location, close to Kyoto station, mall, bus and metro station. A step outside and you are greeted by the the imposing Higashi Hongan ji Temple. Very pretty at night. You can walk around the area quietly at night and it's safe. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. It's hard to pick. The place is always neat and clean. You have option to skip bedsheets change if you're kind of neat freak, environment conscious, OCD like me. The staff are excellent, very helpful. Breakfast options were good sourced locally. The roof deck was pretty though it's only open until 9pm. Its summer so it's hot and humid I didn't enjoy it. It will be nice in spring and fall. The Onsen and sauna was a plus. It's small but if you go on quiet hrs you can enjoy it with only few person around. I love how the hotel is not too big. I feel personally taken care of by the hotel staff. I will stay here again when I get the chance to come and visit Kyoto again.

Super close to Shinkansen train station yet across road from a gorgeous shrine so felt like was not in a concrete jungle. Loved the friendly staff, the fabulous Onsen, the cute rooms despite having no view we could still open window & breath some of that fresh Kyoto mountain air. The courtesy tour bus on one of the days was a delightful surprise. Oh and buffet breakie with a view of shrine is so lovely. The ONLY downside is very few vegetarian options on breakie buffet, but this is more a Japan thing than this hotel. All good many places in Kyoto to solve this only issue:)

The room was comfortable and the bathroom well appointed, good shower. The beds were comfortable. The staff were very helpful in booking dinner reservations at local restaurants. The spa is a nice touch especially after a long day sight seeing. The breakfast is very good with many options. It's a great location near the train station and easy access to Gion and buses/trains to all over.

The coffee at breakfast wasn't great in my opinion - a machine dispensed espresso and regular coffee. There is a machine in the lobby that exchanges foreign cash for Yen. I tried it once and was given quite a low exchange rate - it may not be controlled by the hotel, but anyway, just FYI. At least it's an option if you're on your last day or two and just need a few yen to finish your trip.

The baths were a really nice treat at the end of the day. The location was excellent. Bus stops right next to the hotel. A temple across the street and the main Kyoto station about an 8 minute walk. The hotel provides a free shuttle most days to popular spots. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Laundry in the hotel. The rooms were spacious. Shiatsu massage available in your rooms. And the neighborhood was quiet and peaceful despite being close to all the action.

The breakfast was just ok. We stayed in two different rooms. One with a temple view and one without. We actually preferred the no view room because the view rooms were on the street side and kind of loud. We weren’t in the room enough to enjoy the view much anyways.

Great location right across the road from the temple! We chose a twin room and it had plenty of space. The breakfasts were exceptional - everything being made fresh and some things "to order". I picked Hotel Kuu for the onsens and breakfast and wasn't disappointed. The staff are super friendly and have excellent english skills. Its an easy walk from Kyoto station and they were happy to mind our bags while we explored - both before check-in and after check-out. There is also a free tour bus on some days of the week. Would have liked to have stayed longer to enjoy this place even more.

The room was a little dark but if you open the paper 'blinds' on the window its fine. There was no view from our room - but I wasnt expecting one. We were there for Kyoto not to stay in the room.

Excellent location. 10 minute walk from Kyoto station, so many busses and subways to easily go anywhere. Yet really peaceful and quiet. Stunning temple across the street. Yet still peacefully quiet. Weird, but true. Breakfast is really good. Compared with the fabulous buffets we've experienced, seemed lackluster when we first saw it. But it's really nice to sit for a leisurely, filling breakfast that really has a fair selection of quality Western and Japanese savories and sweets. And the loveliest staff. Traditional Japanese bath is complimentary and we'd never tried it before. So good after a long day of walking. Laundry for just 500 yen wash and dry, detergent included. But a bit inconveniently located from our room to go back and forth.

We're there 5 nights, so drawers to unpack into would have kept us better organized than living out of a suitcase. But the room was a good size and everything else was excellent.

What a view! Across the road to the huge Amida Temple gate and lotus fountain. Reassuring at night - calming during the day. Hotel Kuu turned out to be a little gem with its big rooms, traditional colour scheme and great service. The room was spotlessly clean and good in-room tea making facilities provided. But the best thing was the breakfast. There was a wide selection of western and Japanese food on the buffet and we were also offered freshly-cooked eggs by the in-house chef. Smart location also, within an easy walk of Kyoto Station, shops, restaurants and sights in that vicinity.

We only stayed one night so didn't get to take advantage of the hotel's onsen. The shower in our room was adequate but seemed to be more like a supplement to the onsen. Had we used the baths, we would have needed to take bath towels from our room so more towels would have been appreciated. Pity about the wire reinforcement of the big windows which diminished the great view out. Busy street outside which was a bit noisy until late.

Room had everything we needed. The view of the temple was special. It was the small touches in communicating details that made us feel well taken care of - small notes that indicated that cups and slippers were sanitised, a QR code in the lift that showed how many people were using the onsen in real-time, spring water sent directly to our taps, the choice of coffee bag from a famous kyoto coffee chain etc. They made our stay memorable. However, what left a deep impression was the thoughtful and meticulous staff. It was my third time in Japan and I had yet to see such meticulous service elsewhere. Firstly, when I requested for luggage forwarding service at the reception, the staff by the name of YH Choi measured my luggages and suggested that I try to zip up the extension part of my luggage so the luggage could fit the smaller size that cost less to send. Secondly, they called up the hotel that I was forwarding to make sure the hotel (in Tokyo) reception had someone to pick up my luggages within the stated time (my first time seeing a hotel that does this). When they couldn't reach the hotel, they continued to call different branches to make sure they reached someone. Thirdly, I had carelessly forgotten to mention that my luggages were supposed to reach Tokyo several days later, not the next day. I only remembered this 1.5 hours after I checked out and when I checked my booking app, I realised that Mr Choi had messaged and informed me that he had spoken to my hotel in Tokyo and noticed that my check-in date was a few days later and they changed my luggages' arrival date accordingly (the Tokyo hotel didn't have space to store luggage for several days). I felt so fortunate that this mistake(first time ever) was made when I was staying here. This incident demonstrated how well-trained the staff are and the good values of this hotel. I will return to stay in the future, something I don't usually do as I like experiencing different hotels.
