Great location. Beautiful common area (which is a pity I could not enjoy as I was out all day). Breakfast was excellent

The room’s bathrooms are so so small. The smallest I have ever seen in Japan.

The traditional Japanese breakfast option was my preferred choice. The Tou also offers an American breakfast. The traditional Japanese breakfast included fish, mizo, rice, and Japanese vegtables. Green tea, Chai, and coffee are also available. I stayed in a superior queen bed room. The room size was quite a bit larger than the typical Japanese hotel room. The room included a full size sofa, a small table, a mini fridge located under a cabinet with ample space on top to arrange personal items, and two unique long trays mounted on one wall which held all of my miscellaneous personal items. The climate control was the most sophisticated I have even seen in a hotel. The lighting in the room consists of overhead indirect lighting as well as precise lighting over the bed and entry into the room. The location is very quiet and proximity to the Kyoto train station allows for a 10 minute walk through a residential neighborhood, or a short ride on the Kyoto number 50 bus which stops in front of the hotel. The front desk staff speak English and are very helpful and attentive. I felt comfortable from the first moment I arrived. There is a traditional hot water onsen located in the lower level which is a great way to relax after a busy day of shopping or site seeing. The Tou also has a library of books in English and Japanese dealing with Kyoto and Japanese culture in general. In summary, the Tou hotel is the best hotel stay I have experienced in over 50 years of traveling in Europe and Asia.

The only missing element was lack of a towel rack for damp towels in the bathroom.

I really appreciated the public bath (onsen) – it was the perfect way to relax after a long day. The front desk was very helpful and offered convenient services like borrowing umbrellas and sending luggage. There were also two washing machines available for a very affordable fee. The only downside was their availability – they were usually occupied in the evenings, so mornings were the best time to use them. The hotel also offered some nice free perks such as afternoon coffee, a happy hour, and a calligraphy course. It was also possible to try a typical Japanese breakfast, which was a nice option. Location-wise, it was ok, being close to the central station.

The first thing to mention is the location. On one hand, it was convenient being near the central station, especially for day trips and travel outside Kyoto. On the other hand, it was quite far from the main attractions within the city. We didn’t really get to feel the true charm of Kyoto, as we always had to walk a lot — and public transportation with buses, can be quite challenging in Kyoto. The second point is the room size, which is typical for many Japanese hotels. However, adding a few extra shelves or storage options would have made the space more practical and comfortable.

Our stay here was great - the rooms are spotless and beautifully designed. We had the room with a terrace and it was great to be able to open the doors and feel the temperature of the day each morning before leaving on adventures. Staff are lovely and welcoming. The hotel is located in a quiet street, close enough to Kyoto train station (around a 15 minute stroll) and just a couple of minutes walk from the subway station and buses. I didn't try the breakfast which was included in our stay because I found a great coffee place (Walden Woods) nearby that became a part of the morning routine - and has excellent lattes!

Not a lot of storage in the bathrooms, there's nowhere to put your makeup bag, toiletries or toothbrush but other than that, ample room to move around the main bedroom area and the beds are huge and comfortable.

Hotel staff were great. Location is good, away from the hustle and bustle. Station is about 800m away so quite a walk. Room is accurate to the pictures shown They have a large bath at B1 which was very enjoyable after an entire day of walking. Breakfast was good with 2 options, traditional japanese or western. The soybean (tofu) curd in the morning was delicious. The restaurant has a free coffee and drinks from after lunch onwards. We were out most of the day thus did not utilise it. Rooms were not carpeted which is a plus for us as our kids are sensitive to dust.

Room size on the small side. Only had space for one large luggage. Toilet had a bathtub but you would rather go to their B1 bath which is more comfortable.

We stayed here as a couple for 7 nights and had an amazing stay. Overall a really modern and well equipped hotel, comfortable and greatly located! - Excellent location: Walking distance to Kyoto station and surrounded by restaurants, shops and temples! - Modern hotel with great facilities: A beautifully designed hotel, the facilities felt brand new. There is an onsen in the hotel which was fabulous to use after long days walking! - Comfortable room: The room was an OK size, and was very comfortable and quiet. - Amazing staff: All staff we interacted with were so friendly and helpful! Particularly the lady in charge of breakfast! Staff also helped us organise luggage forwarding. - Great breakfast and social area: The breakfast has two options but they were lovely. The lounge area was a great place to relax with complimentary hot and cold drinks, and a happy hour in evening. On one night there was even a free calligraphy lesson which was so much fun!

- There isn’t a great deal of clothes storage in the room, but this was a minor issue.

Gorgeous hotel, seems like a nice gem in the neighbourhood that it was situated in. Not too far off from the city itself, but it’s in a nice neighbourhood that seemed quiet enough. The uro (public bath) was also lovely! our room was also definitely on the larger side than what it usual in Japan, and the best was huge, felt like it could easily fit 3 comfortably. Service was also great, and the staff were helpful at every corner with whatever that we needed.

I didn’t mind this, but it was dark as mentioned by alot of other guests, so definitely not elderly-friendly, if you’re travelling with a bigger family. It was also surprisingly dusty, not that the room was dirty, but it just was dusty—or maybe because the place is darker, so dust is naturally more visible. But otherwise, really nothing else stark that we had to worry about.

The biggest flaw is that the breakfast is the same every day, which you get tired of if you stay multiple nights in the hotel. Otherwise, the bathroom was a bit cramped and the room was kind of dark due to the window being placed right next to another building.

The reception staff and cleaning staff were wonderful - friendly and very helpful. The architectural design of the facility was beautiful. The convenience of grabbing a face mask or anything was delightful! Loved the position of the hotel being in the quieter part of Kyoto & close to the train station and gardens.

We are not used to spaces - particularly the entrance - being as dimly lit and felt a little disorientated at times. Our room was very small - although we were expecting that in Japan - that was definitely the smallest we'd experienced. I think next time we'd opt for a larger room.

The design of the hotel is very chic and the room itself had a very minimal and classic design. The hotel has a lot of amenities such as hand sanitising wipes, facial creams etc. and it was in walking distance to the station.

The room and especially the bathroom felt a bit claustrophobic because it was so small. The room was cleaned after three nights but was not cleaned very well (e.g. still a lot of hair on the floor). There were two types of breakfast and I personally do not like soft scramble egg and it was difficult to communicate with the staff in English to have them cook it longer but they tried their best.
