I liked the excellent service provided by the staff, the quietness of the hotel, the communal room where we can deliver our food and the car park (same price as the other ones around). Great location, we mainly walked to the sites but the access to public transport is easy and close by. The room is well equipped and we were happy to test a Japanese style room. The futons were a bit thin. The duvets are short so I had to add a second one which was available in the room to cover my feet. The laundry is in the second hotel across the road. The washing machine is efficient but not the dryers. We had to make it run for 2h at 100yen per 30 min.

The room was cozy, and extremely clean. It had a nice outside garden. Definitely recommend the ryokan style room for the living space that turns in to a bedroom. Also they help you with setting up the bed, and the room cleaning service was impeccable. My fav thing about this hotel was the ONSEN! It was fantastic, and not too crowded. There were two for men in every wing, so lot of space.

It is a little bit of a walk from a metro station. The main one (city hall) is a 10 minute walk. Not too big a deal, unless you have bigger bags. Also it's a little away from central part of Kyoto (Gion etc), maybe a 30-35 min walk.

The room was well kept and the staff was always attentive and helpful! I picked this place specifically for their traditional layout of a ryokan. The bedding was surprisingly soft and warm! The location worked out great for me since I was visiting all over kyoto for their shrines; it was close to a bus station, 7-11 was down the street and a couple of blocks away a shopping center.

The only thing I was kind of bummed out about was the hotel's convenience store. I was hoping I could grab a few items on my way out or to my room but it was closed the whole time.

The staff there is fantastic. My husband had an issue with a missing bag but we do not have a phone that works in Japan and cannot speak the language well. However, the staff helped us call the place to not only see if they had the bag but got it delivered for us. Their breakfast was DELICIOUS!!!! The first day was a played breakfast but was more like a feast with all the dishes they provide. The second morning was a buffet but with japanese food (which I love more than American). Everyone was so nice there and the facility is nice itself. The bath area only has one bath but was empty if not had a few people everytime we went.

I loved it all, cannot complain. It was one of the cheaper ryokans to book so obviously it wasn’t the most fanciest. My husband still said it was the best hotel he has ever stayed at.

Front desk staff was very supportive to accomodate all our needs, even to the extent that lady guided us to nearby restaurant at the next street when we were not able to understand directions. Very delicious traditional breakfast. Even breakfast officealy starts at 7:00 AM, on the day of our departure they servedfull breakfast for us in separate room at 6:45 not to let us miss our bullet train to Tokyo.

Although the hotel is older, everything was well-maintained, clean and fully functional. It had a charming, traditional atmosphere that felt authentically Japanese. I really appreciated the peaceful setting and how close it was to the cherry blossoms along the Kamo River. Some of the staff spoke English, and everyone was very friendly.

My only complaint is that I wish the food had been served hotter. The selection for the Western breakfast was limited, but I suppose that's to be expected

The perfect combo of traditional Japanese ryokan style rooms/hospitality but the convenience of a larger hotel and facilities. Staff were so so friendly and helpful, laundry room was easy to use. loved our room - was clean and temperature was controllable/just right, given robes/slippers and green tea. Futons aren’t as thick as a mattress but all part of the experience for us. Short walk to metro station - loved the traditional/retro decor of the lobby too - amazing!!

Ishicho is beautiful and well maintained. Our room was large, comfortable and had a balcony with mountain views 😍 It's a great location as well - short walk to many shops, restaurants and Kyoto Gyoen National Garden. The staff is super friendly but some information was lost in translation but not too bad. Overall it was a great experience and we highly recommend Ishicho to anyone looking to stay at a traditional japanese ryoken.

We had an amazing time at Oyado Ishicho in Kyoto! From April 11th to April 16th, we had the pleasure of experiencing top-notch hospitality and tradition. Its proximity to the city center and the metro station made sightseeing easy and convenient. The staff was incredibly courteous and helpful, and the rooms adorned in traditional style provided us with unforgettable relaxation. We highly recommend this place to anyone seeking an authentic Japanese atmosphere and excellent stay!

The tatami rooms were spacious and beautiful, we also got yukata robes with the room. Our room also had a small fridge, a washing basin, and separate rooms for shower and toilet. The staff were friendly, especially the lovely people who served (japanese) breakfast. Japanese breakfast was very good and always beautifully arranged. The location of the hotel is very close to the Kamogawa river, it was very peaceful. Only a few mintues to walk from a train station. The room prices are good for a ryokan hotel. Onsen is also available, but we didn't try it because the weather was too hot for us.

The latest time to start breakfast is 8:30, which was a bit too early for us - I would not recommend it for travellers who are night owls and who also like to enjoy a bit of night life (like us).
