My reason for this visit was to watch the Gion Matsuri. This property is located a block away from the route! It sits on the border of Pontocho and Gion districts, so a short walk from the Geiko (Kyoto Geisha) areas (did see some walking to their next gigs). Close to a major food/shopping area. The property also has an onsen, and breakfast (Japanese and western set menu options) is included. Staff was extremely helpful in calling for cabs, pointing out attractions nearby and further away. Room is traditional tatami style, (and huge by Japanese standards). Bedding is futon Not noted on the website (or I missed it), but there is a room safe in the cubby under the TV) Half a block away from a subway entrance east and bus lines west, easy transportation options

No laundry on site, but a travelers coin laundromat is half a block away across the street. Food area is only available during breakfast, which is at a scheduled time slot (no walk-ins). Plenty of food options just out the door

Location and the view. This Ryokan hotel was also next to the river in Kyoto. We enjoyed the view and the small balcony we could have tea. Rooms are a bit old but it did not affect us much. Rooms were big enough and had space to keep our luggage etc. Would recommend anyone to stay here. It was convenient for us to travel around in Kyoto from this place. Starbucks is next door and a Lawson is across the street. Also a 2lot of places to eat near the hotel.

Breakfast we didn't like much as it was the same variety of food. We got tired of lots of Tofu and miso soup :) But overall, we liked the stay in this hotel. I wish they have a laundry facility as well.

Staff were wonderfully kind and helpful. There's a lot of action in the neighborhood--meaning great views of the river and people watching. But things quiet down at a reasonable hour, so there's not late-night noise or disruption. Lots of food options with widely varying degrees of formality, including a convenience store and fruit stand. Be prepared for that (AFAIK) this isn't a watered-down experience of Japanese lodging. Futons were fine but not particularly plush. No big comfy couches in the lobby. Staff are very sympathetic but not fluent in English. For us, these were plus factors.

Awesome location! Very near to the shopping street, restaurants, and also the bars & Izakaya. We walked almost everywhere and could drop my shopping bags in the middle of the day to lessen the load. Nice room size and very clean room with tatami. It's a Japanese style of sleeping with a futon and I slept with 2 layers of futon which was pretty comfortable. Breakfast was amazing - Kyoto style kaiseki for all 4 days, very tasty, pretty, and full of nutrition! Definitely come here for the Japanese experience ☺️

Great staff, great location with transport hubs, shopping areas and shrines and temples all within walking distance. Very comfortable, traditional style accommodation with tatami mats, a low table and futon for sleeping. Very quiet and very clean. The daily bento breakfast was a delicious surprise every morning.

The TV only had Japanese channels.

Breakfast was traditional Japanese. It was well-crafted. Every minute detail was explained. The staff was very forthcoming. The Japanese tatami rooms were quite an agreeable change from usual experiences.

There was one bug in my room. But maybe that can't really be helped.

Friendly service, great location, on site onsen, comfy blankets and kimono included in the room. Quiet and relaxing. Free umbrellas.

They didn't clean our room in the morning on day two... Not quite sure why. They did eventually come to clean around 6pm, by which time we were back and told them to leave it. I could have done with a coffee at breakfast but potentially that's not very traditional!

The traditional Japanese breakfast was excellent and plentiful. Location was superb, close to fantastic eateries and easy access to the metro. The staff were all friendly and helpful. It was a bonus to experience sleeping on a futon, although a bit hard to get out of bed in the morning!

If you would like to have the traditional Japanese hotel experience while conveniently located right in the center of Kyoto, this is the place for you. The room was spacious and spotless, and everything worked as expected. The staff is super friendly. Breakfast was amazing!

I didn’t dislike anything. Really. It was a great stay.

Well honestly i am 73 and getting up off the floor was a bit more work. Also i am very tall and the chairs were low. So really me and not the rtocan
