I recently stayed at MOXY Kyoto and was thoroughly impressed by its unique and innovative interior design. The furnishings are modern and stylish, and the charming bears in the lobby add a cozy, homely touch that immediately makes you feel at ease. The lobby is a vibrant social hub where guests love to sit and chat, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere. The check-in experience was smooth and welcoming, with the front desk staff providing excellent and attentive service. They made sure all my needs were met and offered helpful information about the area. The breakfast at MOXY Kyoto was abundant and delicious, offering a wide variety of options to start the day off right. The hotel's location near Nijo Castle is convenient, with easy access to the subway. However, to reach the major attractions, a bus ride is necessary.

The breakfast area is relatively small, and it can be challenging to find a seat during busy times. We liked the room and all the hooks around the room to hang our bags. Mattresses were comfortable but moved easily off the bed. Lots of outlets Great location. Easy access to a train and close to older Kyoto. Provided two water bottles per day. Staff was very nice. Met two Americans working behind the bar. Had a nice dinner at the hotel. Was given two free drinks. Would recommend.

Would have liked access to more water and ice for free. Not crazy about the hotel entrance decorations with large teddy bears and screens. Would have liked vending machines. Very large phone on the very small night stand. Mattresses slid off the bed. The headboard was a large pillow on pegs. It made sitting in bed uncomfortable but since I was so tired from walking in Kyoto it did not really matter.

The staff are very kind and friendly. The room was a good size. The location near Nijo station, grocery sores, restaurants, bus line…was excellent!

It clearly is marketing to youth. The design of the rooms felt like a college dorm—-the entire experience (picture of girl on room key sticking her tongue out, giant overstuffed animals in lobby, no closet in room—just hooks on wall, etc.—-all felt geared toward a clientele ranging from 18-24 years old.) That’s fine, but felt kinda weird for us—in our late 60s/early 70s. Also, the wine selections were beyond terrible…..after a few days an open bottle of wine oxidizes. Probably just super cheap wine to begin with, but I tried a couple different reds and they were just awful.

The hotel was very modern and nicely built (a wonderful shower!), small rooms but that’s kind of a given. Great location in that it’s 15 minutes walk to Niko Castle and very closely located to a JR line & subway station that easily take you to the other spots in Kyoto, but in general it’s far from most things. The lobby/bar seemed to be an active social space at most times, the breakfast was decent (not a lot of meat options if that’s what you enjoy) Overall a very nice hotel to rest your weary bones after walking 20,000 steps a day!

small rooms, hard to keep large luggage organized

Extremely well connected. Train station and bus stop within a few meters away. Also several convenience stores a few steps away. Very convenient. Great pleace to stay over at the end of the day. You'll be grateful to have a hotel close to the transport.

the design of the room itself was quite inconvenient. Their so modern design took all the places to place/store stuff and made a lot of hangers and a very small table. Still ok. Not a fan of it.

This place was a pleasant surprise - beautiful designed room and very comfortable. The bed was fantastic and the bathroom/shower as well. Nice attention to details. The lobby/bar area are very cozy and nice to sit or work there. I also liked they have a laundry room, which was a great help! And it is very conveniently located next to a major station. Reception desk was helpful and friendly.

I think the breakfast could have somewhat more variety, especially for those staying more days - and it ends at 10am, which I found quite early. The only thing I missed in the bedroom was space to take out my clothes. There were only a few hangars available.

I loved how modern all the facilities were and all the decorations of the hotel! The furniture, wall fixtures, bidet and such were all clean and useful. It was such a cheerful place with a nice bar counter doubling as a check in counter. I loved the lounge too! Very inviting and comfy. The staff was always helpful and even held onto my luggage hours after checkout at my request!

I prefer sleeping on a softer bed but the blankets and pillows were nice and soft. The pictures of my room looked a bit bigger than it was but it was more than enough room to store luggage and such.

Very cosy hotel, with a lovely lobby. The staff was very friendly. Room was decent in size, but with all facilities. Everything was very clean. Location is great, 200m from the metro and train station, also reasonably close to tourist attractions.

The breakfast was too simple for our taste, with only few options. This is why we gave 3/4 for facilities.

Hotel is one block from JR Nijo Station. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. Elderly mom needs a chair with back support. Staff brought the chair to our room within 5 minutes. We asked the front desk staff who looks like a manager to help us make reservation for the highway bus. The lady manager was patient and courteous despite the phone line was busy, and about one hour later she called the ticket office again and was able to reserve our seats. Breakfast buffet selection offers continental breakfast with simple pastries, cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit and salad. Japanese breakfast station has two kinds of soup and rice with optional toppings. You can make your own coffee drinks with the touch screen on the espresso machine. We stayed in universal room with separate bathtub and shower. Room has plenty of hooks for hanging clothes. Highly recommended!

Laundry room has three machines but one was out of service during our stay. Guests forgot to retrieve their clothes after washing/drying so the wait can be frustrating. Hotel should implement a wait list for guests to sign up to use the laundry machines.

the windows are not clear, and it made the room feel stuffy. I also didn’t like how I had to turn off the tv every time i entered the room.
