The hotel location is excellent. It is across the road from Nijo train station, and walking distance to Nijo castle. The rooms are lovely, quite beige but nice quality. The hotel provides pyjamas - that my husband loved, slippers, toiletries, room spray etc. Check in was quick and easy - very impressed. Free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and cordial drinks were available for free in the lobby. The beds and pillows were comfortable, the bathroom was clean and tidy. There are great cafes and restaurants located close to the hotel. Including: Yamashita Shozo (Yamasho-Ramen) for amazing Ramen located two doors up from the hotel, Yayoi Ken for Japanese Teishoku Restaurant with food sets located diagonally across the road from the hotel, Kura Sushi - a sushi train restaurant - just 7 minutes East of the hotel across and past the railway station. We enjoyed staying here and would stay again.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The lobby is spacious and welcoming, and the entire hotel has a modern yet charming Japanese feel. One of the standout features was the convenience—it’s in a fantastic location with a bus stop just 20 meters from the entrance, making it easy to get anywhere in the city. The train station is also right across the road, providing quick and effortless access to public transport. The hotel itself is incredibly clean, safe, and secure. The rooms are well-designed, with tall ceilings and a spacious layout that comfortably fit two people and four pieces of luggage (with room for more if needed). The bathroom was amazing, featuring a large rainhead shower, and they provide complimentary toiletries, including face creams, toothbrushes, and hair ties. Other great amenities included washing machines for laundry and a luggage transfer service—just head to the front desk, and the staff will assist with the paperwork for sending or receiving luggage from another hotel. The breakfast was also really good, and there are English-speaking staff available if needed. Overall, it was a fantastic stay—clean, comfortable, spacious, and in a super convenient location. I highly recommend it!

The hotel is conveniently located right next to Nijo Station. From there, you can take a bus east to Gion, ride the San-In Line east to Kyoto Station, or take the San-In Line west to Arashiyama. It's a fantastic location! There's also a shopping street near the 7-Eleven with plenty of great restaurants. The hotel itself is new, clean, and well-maintained. The staff were polite and helpful during check-in and check-out. Housekeeping came by daily to empty the trash and replace towels, with bed linens changed every three days. The bathroom was exceptionally clean, and the breakfast area downstairs was cozy, offering free coffee and Italian sodas.

This is a minor nitpick, but the coin laundry machines were not great at drying clothes. Even after repeatedly extending the dry cycle, my clothes remained damp. This also created a bottleneck, making it difficult to find an available machine unless you were willing to do laundry during off-peak hours. In the end, we resorted to hanging our damp clothes on the provided hangers in our room and letting them air dry.

The hotel had all the amenities you could want in a hotel - comfortable, clean rooms serviced daily an onsen, gym, close to train station and subway, (take the JR line if you’re coming in from Kyoto station it is direct to Noji whereas subway you have to change trains) The staff are very friendly and helpful, seamless check in. Free tea coffee and make your own soft drinks all day. Buffet breakfast too The Shogun’s palace is a short walk away and there are some fabulous restaurants very close by. We would highly recommend this hotel if you’re in Nijo

Can’t think of anything we didn’t like.

Everything was great and very modern. The bed was very large and super comfortable. The bathroom was great. A/C was very silent. We didn’t have any problem finding an available washing machine for laundry (you can even check availability on the TV, super convenient). Very flexible hours for breakfast (I think 6:30 to 10 am). The hotel is right across from Nijo station, which was very convenient to get to Kyoto station (10 min) and to other parts of the city. It definitely is a less touristic area, however we very much enjoyed it and if you’re willing to explore and walk a bit (within a 10-15 min walk radius) you will find great options for drinks and dinner - we had our best dinners in this area.

Frosted glass window so no view on the outside at all - but we spent little time in the room during the day so it was not a major annoyance. It was very warm in our room when we arrived and it took a while to cool down the room, but it worked well in the end. Breakfast was not amazing but not as bad as we expected when reading the other reviews and definitely not the worst we’ve had during our trip. Coffee was awful though (like in almost all hotels where we’ve stayed in Japan), and the machine ran out of milk several times during our stay.

Clean, modern, and professionally run hotel right outside Nijo Station (train, metro, bus). We appreciated the relatively spacious rooms, more laundry machines, and better service compared to other hotels in the same category. The Onsen was great for short baths. The gym has weights! Not 5kg max. as other hotels in Japan, but proper dumbbells.

We felt that we were not really in charge of the AC, i.e. no matter what we (and the staff) tried, it was not possible to cool down the room quickly. It was the same issue in another room that was offered to us. We didn't mind too much, but never had this issue before with any AC anywhere in the world. The gym should have more than one treadmill.

The location is good, the hotel is right next to a main train station and well connected with busses. It is good for a low key stay but a bit far from the more active center. There are several rather affordable restaurants around. Also it is close to the Kyoto castle. The hotel is super clear and the staff eager to help.

The breakfast was basic and the coffee machines had problems with milk delivery (capuchino, etc) - probably running out of milk. Communication in English is basic at best but this is probably the norm in Japan. This is mitigated but technology and the staff eagerness to help.

Fab location, opposite Nijo metro and train station. Great to have an onsen that was really quiet, in the hotel. The TV told you how many were in the onsen and info about washing machines (which ones were in use, how many mins left etc.) Lovely toiletries in the room with a help yourself area in reception. Huge bed, luxurious sheets and bedding, space in the room.

We didn't have breakfast, we felt it was a bit pricey and loved Holly's cafe opposite for thick toast with eggs, pancakes etc.

1)I was here Best part its just opposite Metro station, when you come & get down at Kyoto ( Do not take Bus or any Taxi just take metro from kyoto to Nijo metro Station I think its just one stop away) I took Bus :( 2) There non alcoholic drinks Coffee machine, ice machine , water bottle which you can take from the Reception itself whenever you come down from your Room all Free 3) One once there was a staff with specs whi told us we already gave you 2 -3 water bottles & can't give more that was rude 4) Morning Breakfast is Great 5) Just at the station you will get 7/11 convenience store , there some good entry like dinner options just close the Hotel.

One of the staff was a bit rude when asked we want water bottles . He said we already gave that were for the day

Canvas Nijo is located right next to the Nijo Station which is a JR station and a local metro station. On the main road, there are many bus options. The excellent location meant you can get to most places of interest easily. The hotel has wash and dry machine if you want to pack light. it also has a small public bath for you to soak your aches away from the walking. Kyoto COOP is less than 10 min walk away for you to get anything you need from Toiletry to fruits. The room is relatively big for a Japanese hotel size too and it is well maintained.

There is limited food options in the area unfortunately.
