TSUGU is an incredibly modern & clean hotel centrally located in Kyoto, walking distance to Nishiki Market, Gion & Higashiyama Districts as well as Pontocho, surrounded by lots of boutiques & restaurants while having a local neighbourhood feel. We love the futuristic minimalist design aesthetic of the hotel’s rooms & facilities which is well thought out. The hotel also provides generous amenities and there’s a spacious kitchen, living space on the 4th floor, which was great to have and almost felt like having a private kitchen to ourselves. The staff were also super friendly & helpful. It’s also really good value for money, given the location as well.
The room was felt slightly small, I was given a split level room with the bathroom on one floor & the bedroom on another. I would recommend booking the larger Moderate room & requesting a single floor room

This hotel exceeded my expectations! Every detail is thoughtfully designed, with a unique Kyoto-style sense of “Zen.” The staff gave clear guidance, and when we changed rooms, they allowed us plenty of time and even helped move our luggage to the new room. The kitchen on the fourth floor is spotless and plays music, so even going there alone at night feels comfortable. The location is excellent—surrounded by restaurants, and the bus stop is within a ten-minute walk.
The washing machines on the third floor are a bit few, so you may need to wait.

Everything in this hotel ticks the boxes. Location - central. 10-min walk to Nishiki Market. 1-15 min taxi ride to Gion and Higashiyama which costs around average of 2k JPY. Amenities - perfect. Room had everything in it. Cleaning is upon request. Kitchen where you can prepare your own food if you want. Surrounded with restaurants and convenient stores. Staff - great English comprehension and very very helpful. I cannot say enough with the helpfulness and the kindness of the staff. They are such great asset to the hotel esp Misaki and her colleague who went out of their way to help us. 10🌟 to the staff. The area is so safe and price of the hotel is very reasonable. I highly recommend this hotel. Family of 4 traveling with a 17 and 19 yr old.
Nothing.

The location was excellent. Walking distance to everything we wanted to see, central markets, shopping and the old part of Kyoto. The bathroom was lovely and easy to share for 3 of us. The communal kitchen was fantastic. Everything was always clean, we used it regularly.
The room was a little smaller than we expected but was easy for the three of us all the same. The pillows were too hard!

The staff were lovely and helpful. We arrived slightly earlier and they allowed us to check in. We also were able to leave our luggage after checking out, which allowed us to walk around the area more before leaving by train. This place is close to the Nishiki Markets which were amazing. Close to amazing restaurants and shopping district. Train a few minutes Walk away. The rooms were clean and fresh and spacious enough for. Family of 4. They have a lovely shared kitchen space full of everything needed to make food. A nice lounge and large table if needing a space for work. Would absolutely stay again.
Can’t complain. Everything was great

One of the best hotel finds I’ve had in a long time—great value for the price! What truly made me fall in love with it was the location. I was initially unsure after reading about Kyoto's neighborhoods, but this one actually turned out to be my favourite in the city. Chic yet edgy, very central, walkable to major sights, and well connected by public transport. The accommodations were just as impressive—stylish, well-equipped rooms, great common areas, friendly staff, and even the building itself was beautiful.
It's hard to find anything negative! If I had to be really picky, the check-out time felt a bit early, but I believe that's more of a standard across Japan rather than something specific to this hotel.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The architecture and design of the hotel is beautiful and it’s located central in downtown Kyoto, but in a calm neighbourhood. The staff is super kind and helpful and the cafe makes great coffee and we had some good breakfast there as well. We stayed with our nine month old baby. Our room had two big beds next to each other, one up against a wall, which made it easy and comfortable to co-sleep. The common-room provided good facilities for stay-in dinners and there was a machine giving cold drinking water (refill of our bottles). We had a great time at TSUGU Kyoto Sanjo and highly recommend it.

Excellent location - really pleased I went for this hotel as it meant we could easily pop in and out throughout the day and do some last minute gift shopping even late at night. Very convenient as it was freezing, so sometimes nice to break up the day but having a relaxing cup of tea back at the hotel. Very polite staff, keen to help.
The rooms were stylishly designed, but ill-configured. No space for suitcases (other hotels had created higher beds or were tatami mat style to maximise space usage). And the bathroom door swung right into the very right hallway. A sliding door would have made everything more comfortable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tsugu Kyoto Sanjoy by THE SHARE HOTELS in Kawaramachi, Kyoto. The location was perfect, very easy walk to Nishiki Markets and the Teramachi Shopping Arcades, as well as plenty of restaurants, bars, and bakeries. The room was large enough for 3 adults, and the bathroom was excellent, very spacious. The staff were exceptional, very helpful, and the hotel was spotlessly clean. The share kitchen was a real bonus, particularly if you had food you need to heat up etc. We required additional pillows, and it was no trouble for the staff to accommodate this. The hotel is also a very easy walk to subway stations and other main shopping areas.
The pillows were not very comfortable, but this does seem to be something that occurs in Japanese hotels, but perhaps some softer pillows for some guests might be nice.

This place is modern and minimalist. The hotel is cutting down on plastic so there's a community kitchen on the 4th floor where you can fill up with filtered cold water, there's also a refrigerator/freezer, water heater, microwave, toaster and stovetop for food storage/prep. There's a huge table and chairs to sit and eat and a reading area to relax or chat with other guests. Guests during the week seemed mainly foreigners with more japanese on the weekend. The bathroom doesn't have a lot of space to put vanity items, but the toilet is nice with heated water for the bidet and the shower/furo (bathtub) was japanese style, spacious and relaxing after a day walking around. There wasn't a lot of room to move around the beds or lay out suitcases, but the beds were comfy and the walls were concrete which made it very quiet, and the window shutters did a great job of keeping the room dark. Hotel staff varied but overall very friendly and helpful answering questions and ordering a taxi for us (our hotel in Tokyo said they would charge us extra if they ordered a taxi). It's a short walk from public transportation and from a lot of shopping and places to eat, but it's not on a main road.
While the breakfast was delicious, it's sort of a set meal- you can choose your drink (coffee, tea or juice), you can choose your carb (usually there was buttered toast, toast with almond spread or jam spread, or egg or ham sandwich) and then there's a plate with a variety of veggies and small shot of soup. It's not a buffet, and not a japanese breakfast, so eating multiple days in a row can have you craving more variety. Also you had to "reserve" your eating time in advance since there are limited tables, works well only if you're up the same time everyday.
