Remote not too busy location, well maintained facilities for skiing, food for every taste; skiing, sledding & tubing right from front door, access roads kept clean, plentiful parking, spectacular views from every room.

There is one serious issue with the hotel i wish could be fixed- large windows in every room are single glazed. Being very cold during winter they don't provide enough insulation and collect moisture from the air in large quantities. Large means entire area under the window is wet. Knowing about the problem hotel provides glass scraper. Using it I collected 100-200 ml of water each day. As a consequence of such intense condensation each room becomes really dump. Every second room on the floor was wedged by occupants to allow better ventilation. I regretfully report this and hope it can be fixed. Otherwise, the hotel is such a gem !

Could do with a refurbishment, fixtures in room were very dated.

This was my third stay at this hotel, and as in the past everything was fine. The onsen at this hotel is excellent.

The hotel is aging a bit. It's still a nice place to stay, but will soon be requiring a bit more attention to upkeep.

Great location, right on the slopes. ski in / ski out. Fantastic outdoor Onsen. Great buffet meals.

The outdoor onsen is very relaxing when quiet, and typical of Prince hotels, although this hotel is older than some we’ve stayed at. The views are incredible and we have never really experienced snow like this it was simply amazing! Excellent staff pre and during stay. Big rooms.

Some guests we noticed, from different nations, don’t adhere to etiquette and rules of entry to hotel areas such as mask use, loud conversations in onsen or clearly disrespectful behaviour towards Japanese staff. Whether people like to follow a rule or not, by doing so you are showing respect for locals, just like you would when visitors come to your own country. Signs about rules are everywhere, so it isn’t so much a fault of hotel, but maybe could be better enforced? Onsen changing room is small for hotel size so can get very crowded.

Ski in ski out. Easy access to both Shizukuishi and Tazawako ski fields (especially if you have access to your own car). Excellent onsen! Love the views to the koi pond and sloping woodlands behind the pond. Room are spacious and comfortable.

The property is very tired. Threadbare carpet, peeling wallpaper on our floor. Soundproofing is adequate but not great, some ambient noise from the corridors and the rooms next door (not enough to be a problem but it's there in the background from time to time). Average value for money.

I had to pay twice! As is normal in Japan (for foreigner at least), I was asked to pay at check in for the room, which I did using cash. Normally in Japan you get the invoice / receipt when you check out. Unfortunatly when I checked out they claimed they had received no money from me. Annoyingly as I had no receipt for my cash it was my word against their's. So I ended up losing an hour trying to reason with them, and while they pretended to check for my 'extra' cash. In the end we were getting no where, and I didn't want to lose my chance to go hiking that day so I ended up paying again under protest. Their efforts to find my payment were inadequate, and they have no CCTV in reception which would have proven my position. So I learned a lesson, always get a receipt whenever and wherever you are, even when this causes offense (as it did when I had precisely the same check in experience at my next hotel in Japan and then asked for the receipt). The hotel staff were professional and polite. But does not change the fact I paid twice - luckily it was only a one night stay.
