My favourite ever hostel, I have been here twice now! I stayed in the 4 bed female dorm. The beds are comfy and private with a curtain. You have plenty of space for your personal items. The convenience stores are super close and so is public transport. Going to the bar at night is really fun! I made so many friends. I had my birthday there and the owner Reiko bought me a lovely cake and everyone sang me happy birthday! It was so wholesome. Reiko, Yoshi and Florian are lovely as well, super helpful and just great people. I recommend Mad Cat to everyone I speak to!

This was by far my favourite stay on my trip! It's such a lovely hostel with even better hosts. Reiko, Yoshi and Florian were amazing and truly made the stay feel like home. The common room was set up in a way where talking with other guests felt natural and the bar up front gets you one free drink a day! It was someone's birthday during my stay, so Reiko took a bunch of guests out to a karaoke bar, they got her cake and sang her happy birthday. About the place itself - it has everything you need. They have extra toiletries for free (lotion, sunscreen, that sort of thing), clean bathrooms, clean living area, comfortable beds. There aren't too many people staying at the hostel at once so it never feels crammed. It's also exceptionally clean and you're only about a 10-minute walk to the nearest station. I day tripped to kyoto and nara during my stay here and had no issues. Long story short, if you're looking for a clean, fun, social (but not crazy party vibes) where you feel welcome and at home every single day, this is the place. I will for sure be coming back on my next trip to Japan! Thank you Reiko, Yoshi and Florian!!!!

Nothing, stay was perfect!

This hostel is located a bit away from the busy crowds, which makes it a perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring—but it's still easily accessible for getting around the city. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, and we appreciated the complimentary welcome drink upon arrival. We chose the private tatami room with futon, and it was a great experience—comfortable and a nice way to enjoy a more traditional style of accommodation. Other travelers staying here were also friendly and respectful, which added to the calm and pleasant atmosphere. Overall, a lovely and peaceful place to stay while still being close enough to enjoy everything the city has to offer.

If you’re looking for a comfy/homely base that’s social, this is the one. We weren’t sure about booking because of the location but we are so glad we did - wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Osaka again! Comfy beds with plugs, light, aircon etc, all the amenities you could dream of inc sauces/seasonings to cook up a storm in the kitchen, SUPER clean, great showers, staff happy to go above and beyond, the downstairs bar makes it super easy to meet people, Familymart next door AND 2 gorgeous cuddly boys (the kitty cats) - what more could you want?! The owner has honestly nailed it, our fav hostel in Japan by far.

The location isn’t exactly central, but honestly there’s a bus stop outside and it’s a 8 min walk to the metro. Both are on great lines where you can get anywhere easily. We had a busy stay travelling around Osaka and it was absolutely fine! Can also rent bikes from the hostel for cheap.

Clean, comfortable, cozy, welcoming, and brimming with adorable cat decorations and mementos of the two adorable kitty hosts; I will be returning as soon as I can! The human hosts were kind, friendly, and helpful, with plenty of suggestions for where to eat, where to party, where to sightsee, and just what to do generally. Maru-chan and Kogo-chan were the sweetest little babies ever, so tame and soft! Please be kind and considerate of them! Be mindful of their space when they’re in their in their enclosed beds as that’s their safe space and they need to trust that there’s somewhere they can retreat to if they want to be unbothered as I’m sure it can be overwhelming and tiresome to be exposed to so many people all the time! The hostel provides many amenities, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, a washing machine, a kitchen stocked with spices and cookware and many outlets for charging. The information board is, well, very informative- read it all carefully! It even included a QR code leading to a bunch of pinned food places suitable for vegans and vegetarians as well as spots for cat lovers.

I had a great time at Mad Cat Hostel. It's very small and feels like a home, which makes it very easy to talk to everyone around the living room table. I don't think the hostel can host more than 15-20 people. It was very clean and all of the amenities and more were included, even a drink every night at the bar. It's a mini-bar at the entrance, separate from the hostel, so don't get scared thinking this is a big party hostel. At first I was concerned that it was a bit far out outside the center of Osaka, but after Tokyo, this place was very close to the center. And it was great to be in a quieter area of town, as Osaka can be quite intense in the center. The staff and owner were super friendly and helpful, and the bed was very comfortable. I would definetely come back and I think it's a great place for someone who is looking for a longer stay as they have a big kitchen.

It a longer commute to the center, but really not that far.

Just an incredible hostel in Osaka. Thank you to Yoshi and Rieko for their warmth, welcoming attitude and kindness. They make it a home. The cats are cute fluffballs. The decor is so thought out. It’s so comfortable- the beds, the pillow, good heating in the rooms. Great showers, towel and soap included. Great location - just take bus or metro everywhere. Convenience store right next door. Home away from home. Social atmosphere. Cats are awesome. They even will print out a photo of your cats to add to the wall. Plenty of recommendations for what to do when there. Rieko gave my helpful tips to get to airport easily and Yoshi didn’t hesitate for a moment to loan me his adaptor. Daily welcome drink included! Thank you for everything!!

Nothing.

- First of all: Kogo and Maru, the most gentle hosts ever :) - Staff was very friendly and helpful - Kitchen has everything you need - The front bar and the people - The information displayed about Osaka and surroundings was great!

Not a very spacious and open place: toilets and showers are a bit too small and not much sunlight. Kitchen also has limited space if there's more than 1 person cooking. But if you're spending just a couple of nights it's ok :) Also be mindful you'll need to make use of public transport to comute.

Such a warm and welcoming hostel. I only stayed for 1 night as I didn't have enough time in my original itinerary to stay longer in Osaka, but as soon as I walked in I knew it was a mistake and that I should have booked the place for longer. It's rare to find hostels that are both this comfortable, clean, and social all at the same time. You can tell that Reiko, the owner has put in a lot of effort to make it that way. In my opinion hostels like these are as much of an experience as any of the other attractions in the city, and this is an experience that you absolutely should not miss out on. Easily my favourite hostel in Japan. Will definitely be back in Osaka, hopefully in the near future, and will absolutely book this hostel again, this time for a few nights to get the full experience.

That I didn't stay longer.

The hostel is kind of small but is really cozy, the staff was super nice and reliable. We had the pleasure to meet Yoshi who was a fantastic host. Since it is a small accommodation that also holds a bar, we had the opportunity to meet a lot of people who were staying there and have a drink together, so the atmosphere was almost familiar. The cats are very friendly and lovely, I loved the cat walls with all the pictures of the pets from around the world.

There are just two showers and a couple of toilets, but since there are not a lot of people it is not a problem. Overall I don't think there are negative aspects.
