This place was so easy to find - We came out of the JR station, looked left & it was right in front of us! Despite being beside the railway tracks, we never heard any trains. We slept well here. Breakfast was a small buffet, but everything we needed was there. On the first night, we ate in the hotel restaurant. The Japanese style burger was delicious.

We didn't like all the signs in the breakfast room/restaurant telling us "Do not move the tables", "Do not bring in bottles or containers", "Do not sit at your table after eating", etc. It felt rather dictatorial. We think this hotel is better suited to business users than tourists. There were few places to sit in the reception area & we resorted to sitting on our beds to relax after a long day out exploring.

The place delivers what it promises. It is very near the station, the room was ok for 3 people, the extra bed was not very comfortable, the others were good. The breakfast was really good, and the view from the restaurant was pleasant. The staff was very kind and helpful. The Hotel is a 15 min walk from the centre. Kakunodate is worth a stay. There is a public bath next to a nice isakaya. There are convenience stores.

The extra bed was not very comfortable. The bear alert in Kakunodate was a little off putting (not the Hotel’s fault, of course…).

The hotel is located next to the railway station, so it's within convenient walking distance of everything. The soundproofing for the tracks running alongside it is excellent - if anything we heard other guests rather than passing trains. The parking lot behind the hotel is free for the duration of your stay and we were even allowed to leave our car there for a few hours more after check-out. Staff is very friendly.

The bathroom was pretty clean but a little worse for wear. Our room was a bit stuffy, probably due to the insulation and heater. Overall it was comfortable enough for our short stay.

Located right next to the train station, in a picturesque square, this small JR run hotel had the personal air of a country hotel, with friendly staff, good food and expected conveniences like a restaurant, washing machines, gift shop and vending machines. Staff were lovely. Surprisingly our room was extremely quiet and we didn't hear any trains pass although we were only a few meters from the tracks.

There was nothing we didn't like about this hotel.

It's just next to the station, literally 20 meters. And don't worry about train noise, our window was facing the tracks and we didn't even know about trains. Hotel has everything you need for a great time in Kakunodate.

Little far from the samurai district, but usually there's a taxi in front of the station which will get you there very cheap. Or it's like 15 to 20 minutes walk.

Loved every bit here. When I arrived it was snowing in beautiful fluffy flakes❤️ It was literally 20 steps from the JR train exit to the hotel entrance, so even in a blizzard you’d be able to go back and forth without problem. Staff struggled with English but solved this with a simple instruction card, it was very cute. They did their best and everything was completely clear. The room was very big compared to other places I had been with a sofa and coffee table that seat 2 people easily. The bath was very enjoyable, breakfast was small but delicious, the smoked fish was really good. You have a view of the square in front of the train station so lots of things and people to observe. I really recommend staying here as the town has interesting history itself but also has a good and fast connection to Akita City.

The only thing that would make it better would be an onsen.

This hotel is right next door to the railway station so very very handy. We thought there might be some train noise but there was no disturbance at all. The staff were helpful and there is an onsite restaurant where we ate on one of our nights. The food was good and saved us heading out in the rain. The samurai houses are an easy 15-20min walk away.

The hotel is located right beside the JR Kakunodate Train station. Its closed proximity means catching a train or going to the convenient store is as simple as just exiting the hotel and turning right and you will be there in 10 seconds. While the breakfast did not have large selection due to the small number of guests, it does offers of a variety of Japanese and European breakfast. If you are intending to stay in your room most of the time, it has high speed internet on the orders of 100mbps despite the small town.

If you are looking for things to do after 1900. There won’t be much options due to the small town.

The hotel is super conveniently located right next to the trainstation. It has a buffet-breakfast which is quite satisfactory and they have washing-machines available and the staff is very helpful, able to help with calling taxi-services to pick you up from, for example, a remote onsen.

The rooms seem to have been used by smokers in the past. I was able to be re-located to another room when the first room that I tried had a weird smell to it. This might not be the case when the hotel is more fully booked, however. YMMV.

The hotel is a short walk from the tourist attractions. It's right next to the station, and I was expecting it to be a fairly standard hotel. It turned out to be really nice, with a very good restaurant. The town is well worth a visit if you are in this area, and the hotel is an ideal place to stay, particularly if you arrive by train.
