Great modern hotel located just up from the station. Easy walk across to the old town and important sightseeing locations. Blackout curtains and modern comfortable beds and not tatami made for our first deep sleeps of the holiday! Room design was very clever and fitting a family of four with two teenagers into one room was very simple.

The hotel does not look after bags after checkout. This is very inconvenient and inconsistent with the other hotels we stayed in throughout Japan. It would be good if this policy could be revisited.

This is a chic, modern hotel that exudes a cool & chill vibe. We were pleasantly surprised when our family of 4 were upgraded to a big & spacious room for 6 - the kids were delighted with the very comfortable & cozy bunk beds. Much thought has gone into the tasteful design & lighting of the room (& for that matter, the whole hotel), which is stylish & aesthetically pleasing, while being functional & comfortable at the same time. There is a nice sofa set with a big oval table in the room, which was great for our nightly suppers! It is also the only hotel we came across in Japan during our 2-week vacation, which has a big standing shower (the other 7 hotels we stayed in, have bathrooms that are designed more for sitting while showering). Location is ideal - about 4-5 minutes walk from the Takayama train station, a 15-minute walk from the Takayama old streets & a 1-minute walk from Family Mart to purchase our supper.

As feedback for improvement, it would be great if the hotel provided reminders to the hotel guests to promptly remove their laundry once done (in 2 hours for the standard washing cum dryer setting), to prevent other guests from having to wait for a long time for one of the 3 coin-operated washing machines (which accept 100 yen coins) in the laundry area (you have to key in a passcode to get your laundry out, hence others are not able to take it out for you).

Great location right near the train and bus stations (which you need if you're doing day trips out of Takayama), plus walkable to all the Takayama sights. Very clean and bright. Beds and pillows comfortable. Fit our family of 6 fine and didn't seem too crowded, (but not much room for luggage for 6) though we didn't stay in the hotel a lot. You did have to juggle the one bathroom. It doesn't include breakfast but there is a nearby hotel/restaurant (Country Hotel) where you can purchase a breakfast buffet for 1000 yen. Make sure to try the Hida yogurt there it's so good.

The staff wasn't as friendly as at our other hotels in Japan. We arrived 20 minutes before check in and had to sit in the lobby until check-in time, which I get, you need to follow the rules, but just seemed arbitrary. Also they couldn't accommodate a request for an extra blanket. But I would stay here again, great accommodation for the price.

I recently stayed at this hotel with my family of three, marking our second experience with FAV Hotels, and we loved both stays! The location is superb, with train and bus stations just a few doors down, making it easy to catch transportation to Shirakawa-go. We stayed in the room with a bath overlooking the city and has a balcony which is an added bonus. We enjoyed the short 10-minute walk to the charming old town and local markets, which added to our exploration of the area. Our room was spacious, modern, and impeccably clean, providing all the comfort we needed. The amenities were top-notch, enhancing our overall experience.

The only downside is we borrowed the iron from the reception but they didn’t have ironing board.

My stay at FAV LUX Hida Takayama was truly delightful. The location is a major highlight—being so close to both Takayama Train Station and the Nohi Bus Center made it incredibly convenient to explore the area, whether by walking or taking the bus. There’s even a minimart just a 1-minute walk in front of the hotel, which was perfect for grabbing quick essentials. The room itself was a haven of comfort. The bed was comfortable enough for a restful sleep, and despite the proximity to the train station, the room was surprisingly quiet, allowing for peaceful nights. The scenery from the window was absolutely breathtaking, offering stunning views that made every morning special. Another bonus was the easy access to the charming Old Street, which was just a short walk away, letting us soak in the historic beauty of Takayama at our leisure. Overall, I highly recommend FAV LUX Hida Takayama for its unbeatable location, comfortable accommodations, and beautiful surroundings. It’s a fantastic choice for anyone visiting Takayama, and I would definitely stay here again!

While the staff were helpful and kind in their actions, I did notice they could be a bit reserved and less smiley, which might come across as less friendly at first. However, this did not detract from their willingness to assist, and I believe a warmer demeanor could make the experience even more exceptional.

The room was large and spacious. It had a kitchenette, kettle, fridge for those who want to prepare food or coffee/tea in the room. One thing that was missing in the room was more space for clothes/closet. The hotel is within walking distance of the city center and the morning markets. The hotel also offers paid parking for 1000 yen per night based on availability. If there is no space in the hotel parking lot, there is a parking lot opposite the hotel also for 1000 yen. Another great thing is that there is a cafe in the hotel lobby that makes really delicious coffee and opens early in the morning.

The hotel is unique with a loft-style bedroom. My toddler loved it and treated it like a playground. The room is extremely clean and feels brand new. I love that each bed has its own power socket and a small ledge for placing a phone. The modern dimmable cove lighting creates a nice ambiance. Before check-in, a QR code needs to be filled in, and the same QR code is used to enter the room—very well designed. The check-in process felt modern and seamless. I also appreciated the Japanese toilet with a heated seat and a comprehensive remote. The bathroom is a neatly prefabricated unit that looks clean and well-maintained. The location is fantastic—less than a 5-minute walk from Takayama Station and close to the Morning Market and Old Town. Along the way, there are great food options, a supermarket, and a drugstore. A FamilyMart convenience store is also just a 3-minute walk away. During my 14-day trip to Japan, this was the best hotel we stayed in. ❤️

Great location near the station and down the end of the central shopping street filled with restaurants and shops, only 5 mins walk from the old town. We had a great room on the top floor with a sensational view across Takayama towards the old town and the temples on the hills, with the snowy peaks in the background. The room was a nice size with the most comfy futons we’ve ever had. Check-in was easy and using QR code not a key or card made it so easy! Fav branded drip coffee was really nice too!

Not really any complaints. There was some confusion about changing the sheets but maybe because we folded the futons up and left all the sheets in a folded pile. Otherwise nothing negative!

We have spent 4 weeks in Japan, staying in various hotels. This by far exceeded all of our expectations. The in room bath and sauna was absolutely amazing and a huge welcome when returning from being in snow all day. The bathroom was such a hit that our family needed to have our own 'roster' 🤣 The hotel is located perfectly close to the train station and a 7 minute walk to Old Town. We have already decided to come back to Takayama and stay for 2 weeks.

The breakfast that we had ordered, in our opinion was not worth the money. There were only three options yoghurt, a salad roll and crocmoseieu. This was the only negative thing about our stay

Location was convenient, and room size was huge! We had a double bunk room and it was really big for our family of four. Convenient to have a kitchenette, lounge setting, and so much space after being in Tokyo :) Location was really great. Our kids just wanted to spend our whole time in Takayama in the hotel to play in the bunk beds :p

We had thought the sauna/bath in the photos was a public bath, but it was actually a private sauna you could rent out. It was really expensive so we didn't go for it, unfortunately.
