It was an affordable ryokan experience for us which was fun. The lady who manages the ryokan was very nice and helpful. Always there to help out. Room was very spacious and the ryokan provides electric blankets - so nice! Room was very quiet. It also had its own onsen - two rooms which was a bonus. Location - close to the train station so doable walk for majority with luggage. Close to many restaurants. The historic centre is about a 10-15 minute walk. So overall we liked the location.

Hauling suitcases up a steep stairway - However it's only one floor. In reality we arrived early, and left our luggage to explore the city, and one of the staff had moved our luggage into the room.

This staying in this beautiful and traditional ryokan was such a highlight of our trip. The ryokan itself is gorgeous. The shared washroom and showering facilities were clean and more than adequate. The onsite public bath was piping hot and wonderful after a day in the cold. Our room was remarkable - spacious and beautiful. We visited during a particularly cold snap and given the traditional construction of the building it was pretty cold, but we were amply supplied with heaters and electric futons that made sleeping cozy and comfortable. Breakfast is provided every morning and it is wonderful. Finally, the staff here are warm, welcoming, and helpful. They greeted us every time we arrived and saw us out every time we left.

The location was incredible and the property beautiful. Our room was stunning and very spacious. We loved the traditional japanese baths each day, and the staff and service was top notch. Our highlight was the daily breakfast - all locally sourced seasonal products that changed daily. We also booked a traditional Daiseki dinner, a multi-course Japanese dinner which featured the freshest sashimi, tempura, Hida wagyu beef and other delicious dishes. Very highly recommend.

Not much, everything was exceptional. If we have to say anything, the slippers were a little small for our feet and as a wider hipped women, the rope also.

A lovely stay in a pretty little traditional ryokan. It was our first time staying at a ryokan and it was great. We were very glad to have booked the room with private toilet and shower so would reccomend this rather than shared. We could still access the private onsen which was a nice. It was surprinsingly more comfortable to sleep on a traditional futon than expected! We got our own Yukata for the stay. Run by a lovely lady and her staff which are so friendly. We were able to leave our luggage there before check-in and when we got back it was ready in our room. The breakfast was excellent in the banquet room looking out onto the beautiful little garden. You had tea and biscuits provided in your room. No kettle but the thermos with hot water kept it hot throughout the day. At the time we went we were unfortunately unabe to book an evening meal due to staff shortage but the lady was very apologetic and reccomended some really nice places to eat. You really felt welcome and looked after.

Some parts of the bathroom were a little worn and dated so in need of a re-do but it did not spoil our trip at all.

Our stay at Ryokan Kaminaka in Takayama was absolutely delightful! It offered a perfect blend of traditional Japanese charm and modern conveniences. We were especially impressed by the surprisingly spacious bedrooms. Unlike many ryokans, these rooms felt incredibly roomy and comfortable. An added bonus was the private balcony with expansive windows overlooking a beautiful Japanese garden. It provided a tranquil escape to soak in the serene atmosphere. Another highlight was the onsen experience. The ryokan allows for convenient same-day booking of private baths, creating a romantic and relaxing experience for couples. Overall, this ryokan exceeded our expectations and provided a truly memorable stay in Takayama.

This is a traditional Japanese style inn. You will have a nice good value with exceptional experiences. They also have onsen and you can book it privately. Delicious breakfast and you have to choose the time 7:30 or 8:00. They also have delicious Japanese style dinner. However, you have to book itf ahead, so they will prepare it for you. Dinner starts at 6pm. Our room is Japanese style room with private bathroom. We stayed for two nights. It was a great experience. Highly recommend to stay here.

The hotel staff were incrediby kind. I believe it's a mother and son who run the place. They were always very helpful and doing everything they could to help and make us feel comfortable. The room is spacious with good lighting and traditional flooring. They have a private onsen which was perfect to relax. Very comfortable stay and good value for money. I would stay here again.

The bathroom was a bit dated and small. Some people may enjoy not being bang in the middle of the town centre, but it's worth noting that it's a 9 to 10 minute walk to the old town. It does mean it's quiet and peacful around the hotel and you're only a couple of minutes walk to the bus station.

If you are after an authentic Japanese experience this is the place for you. Traditional Japanese guest house, immaculate presentation. The staff are really lovely and payed attention to every detail and always willing to assist. A traditional Japanese breakfast was included and again beautifully presented and delicious.

Although more true to a traditional Japanese guest house, not having a private toilet and bathroom was inconvenient, there was however a toilet on every level and the shared bathroom had everything you could need including an Onsen

The property is better than showed in the pictures. The staff is really nice, and very well-disposed and concerned about the comfort of guests. Local breakfast very abundant and varied, and cooked with plenty of love. The location is perfect, just 3 blocks away from the station. Beds and pillows were pretty comfortable. The place has an onsen that you can enjoy to relax at the end of the day. If you are really willing to experience a true Japanese experience, I highly recommend this Ryokan.

Wow. This accommodation exceeded all our expectations. The lady who runs it was INCREDIBLE. Stuffed our wet shoes with paper to dry them from the snow and put an extension plug in our room without asking when she realised we’d needed more things plugged in. Went above and beyond without even prompting! 100/10 Also I’d seen reviews about people saying it was cold over night but we had 2 heaters and electric blankets provided, it was -5 outside but we were toasty warm at night. The garden view room is stunning
