This hotel is indeed a great place to stay in Takayama. First, it's less than 5 minutes walk from the Takayama station, so it was easy for the three of my family with two big suit cases to get there at 21:00 in the night. Second, the room I booked was quite big and comfortable. It's on the top floor with three beds and enough room to unpack our two suit cases at the same time, without needing to move the tables and chairs. Third, the breakfast was wonderful. There is a small cafe on the first floor of this hotel building, with one glass door separating it with the counter of the hotel. The fresh-cooked breakfast was very delicious, much better than those "normal" self-service breakfast in big restaurants. Above all, the staff were very nice and helpful. I received messages in this Booking App asking me when I could arrive, and that was the time when I realized this hotel has stated their check-in time ends at 20:00. However, my train from Nagoya would arrive the Takayama station at 20:57. The staff offered me a way to call for help when I arrived. To my surprise, when we arrived at about 21:05, I found there was already a staff there waiting for us. That made me feel very warm, especially consider that day was our first time to visit Gifu area and also the first day of this trip to Japan from abroad. I sincerely appreciate all the help from the staff, and sorry for kept a staff so late to handle my check-in. I will stay here again for sure when I have the second chance to visit Takayama!

The hotel was in a great location. The cafe below was the best option for breakfast in town. Great for an afternoon glass of wine as well. The hotel is located to the best soba noodles restaurant in town and also to a great hida beef restaurant just around the corner. It was a great option due to the location, cleanliness and comfort of the room dor our couple of days in Takayama. The room was spacious enough and the bathrooms were incredible was great.

The beds were good and we did sleep great but they did seem a small and not the same quality you could find in a major city for a hotel of this caliber.

Hotel eph Takayama is a charming, small hotel within walking distance to the JR Takayama train station and conveniently located for walking to all the sites of Takayama. The room was Japanese style and ver charming using beautiful woods in its décor. Breakfast was delicious! We were offered a choice between a ham/cheese or vegetable panini or a homemade soup alternative. We chose the wonderful ham/cheese panini which came with coffee, juice, a delicious smoothie, salad,etc. Wonderful way to start the day and it is served in the adjoining Hids' Cafe and Bar. We ate dinner one night at Hids' and it also was high quality and excellent. I was so happy that we chose this charming hotel in Takayama!

We stayed two nights at this lovely hotel, just a minute from the train and bus stations. The room was super clean and spacious. On our second day, they changed not only our towels but also the sheets—and even gave us fresh yukatas, which we didn’t expect. There’s a nice café downstairs where you can grab drinks and breakfast, and you can even order to your room. It was really convenient since they open early.

The room was spacious and very clean with great beds. It is very close to the bus and/or trainstation. We did not directly see the sign of the hotel, so we had to ask. The room made us very happy and we felt pity that we only stayed there so shortly.

Except for the sign that we did not see there was very little to complain about. I was not so happy that when we returned for our luggage that we left there after checkout, that it was standing there unattended. A small improvement could be that they would give the opening times of the cafe on a paper upon checkin. We wanted to eat there something when we came back and found the place closed. That was a bit of a pity.

The staff at this 12 room boutique hotel was exceptional - super friendly and helpful. The location is great - very close to the train/bus stations but quiet. There is a washer and dryer (very reasonable fee and free detergent) on each floor which you do not hear in your room. The soundproofing is that good! Good coffee with breakfast.

The sliding shade we had for our room’s main window was very beautiful and fit with the Takayama decor but it didn’t allow much natural light to come into the room. Bath is lovely but shower is somewhat awkward.

Fantastic location just a few blocks from the train and bus station (same building). Short walk to the start of the historic area. Great restaurant choices very close. Beautiful room, a little small like many Japanese hotels rooms but nice aesthetic and very clean. Great little bakery/restaurant downstairs to grab a bite. Stacked coin-operated washer/drier unit just across the hall from our room.

Great location super close to the train station so you’re not having to lug your bags around. The main “old town” street is about a 15 minute walk which was awesome. The whole town is so flat so very family/stroller friendly. We stayed in the suite so we had the whole top floor to ourselves! The bathroom was great for little kids as well with a nice big wooden tub (it was hot during the summer so the kids used it as “mini pool” in the afternoon to cool off and relax). The staff were kind and booked our dinner for us because most things seem to close early once they reach capacity.

The hotel is very close to the station and an easy walk to the tourist spots. The staff were lovely and the cleaning team even left a bag with fresh towels on our door when we opted to not be disturbed. There is a cute little cafe downstairs with a nice breakfast and free coffee voucher. We also had a washer and dryer on our floor, which was extra convenient.

Our room was very dark - not much space between buildings for natural light. The only communal space option is to head to the cafe but we found this filled up fast on a rainy day.

The rooms were cozy, and small, but we liked having the couch area and appreciated the deep soaking tub. Basic overnight amenities, such as a hairdryer and bathroom supplies were provided. It was nice to have the lightweight bathrobe. It was very convenient to have laundry on our floor and a lovely café on the first floor. The staff there was a very hard-working and friendly.

There was nothing we did not like about the property.
