The Uno Port Inn was less than two blocks from the train station and ferries to Naoshima/Teshima and a perfect launching point for our visit to the art islands. The host was knowledgeable about the islands and provided us with maps and timetables so we could plan out trip. While checking in we got to choose our breakfast sandwich options and eating time that worked with the ferry we wanted to catch. They also held our bags for the day free of charge. The room was simple 3 futons on a tatami floor with a closet along the long wall. Bathroom was down the hall but each room had a key to their own private bath which were grouped together. There was also a small common area with washing machines, water and coffee/tea.

Ideal location; 3 minutes from the station and 3 minutes further to the Ferry. It has a deck and coffee hut in front and the cafe is open for non guests for breakfast and lunch but they limit numbers and it is private after that. The cafe area serves as a nice lounge for guests - great jazz radio - and upstairs is a guests only terrace where you can drink their cocktails. The breakfast and lunch menu is based on sandwiches (really buns with eggs, bacon etc) and bagels as well as scones etc. It's all home made and the bagels are outstanding: the salmon and cream cheese is heaven and the bagels are light and perfectly seasoned. They do takeaways for your train and your island trips. Indulge. You are welcomed by a bilingual staff who are eager to give advice on train and boat times, as well as opening hours on the islands and what to see. They also have a list of recommended restaurants - ask them to book ahead of time (Oitami was excellent but go 7pm latest to be able to enjoy the experience without last orders pressure). All the staff are great but Ming is a star and seems to work all hours. The owner lived 35 years in NYC so he has injected an understanding of gain into the already great japanese service. You can leave your bags when you get off the training go straight to the ferry. The rooms are a mix of en suite and external private bathroom. The ensuite is very good - larger than usual bed and a well functioning bathroom. The other rooms are spacious and each has its own individual bathroom in a bathroom annex which works really well: clean, well equipped, completely private. There is also a coffee and microwave area upstairs with a small bar style table and beside it a laundromat. Everyone is given Yukata so no awkward moneys in the hall. The yukatas are for sale at a great price. All in all a perfect base. Comfortable, efficient, super friendly, great value. You need at least 2 days to do everything. Reserve entries well ahead of time.

Lovely welcome from Minh with all the information we needed for the town and going to Naoshima the next day. Room was cosy and more traditional looking but perfectly comfortable. No en-suite but your own private bathroom is close by and is well appointed. We enjoyed grabbing drinks and snacks from the nearby 7/11 and sitting out on the upstairs terrace watching the ferries come and go. Breakfast was great, more western, which I enjoyed by that point, with some nice cool jazz playing in the background! Fantastic location for the ferry and can highly recommend going to the nearby onsen. It was lovely getting out of the big cities and really enjoyed being in Uno, a great gateway to the islands.

Minh and Long were both so delightful and helpful. Their English is very good, which was a bonus for us because we were a group of English speakers. The (illll)ncluded) breakfast was yummy and had breakfast sandwiches or bagels. The coffee was good and they had real milk to put in it rather than artificial creamer, which I appreciated. The room was funky but kind of fun--a lowish doorway for example. It is not a deluxe experience, so don't go if that is what you need. We were right near the ferry for Naoshima and an) easy walk to the onsen which was available for a small fee and was really lovely. Note that some rooms have private bathrooms which are down the hall from the room.

The washer and dryer supply was maybe not quite enough when the hotel was full-- it took a lot of waiting.

3 minutes walk from the ferry peer to get to the art islands. Minh the receptionist is absolutely amazing, eager to help and ready to answer any questions about where to eat, how to get to the islands and just to talk. He and the easy-going cook Momo both speak fluent English. I had a sort of continental breakfast at the cafe in the inn which was a pleasant change from the Japanese style breakfasts I had had over the previous 2 weeks. The salmon bagel was generously laden with smoked fish. The coffee was excellent, too. My personal detached bathroom was clean. The coin laundry was cheap.

The room design is very basic, with signs of wear and tear everywhere and a tiny window. I would say this is the level of an individual room in a hostel, albeit certain nice decor elements. A detached bathroom is not very convenient, as I had to dress every time I had to go there. I had a good sleep on the futon bed. The room was warm. I was probably the only guest when I stayed so no sound disturbed me at night.

ALL the staff were exceptionally friendly, nice & helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They made the atmosphere feel more like you were staying at someone’s home, not a hotel. The room was quite spacious compared to other places I have stayed in while in Japan. There was a separate individualized bathroom nearby, and its shower was particularly nice.

There were laundry facilities upstairs for guests’ use, but this was somewhat difficult for me with a disability to climb up & down to ie no elevator.

The staff were absolutely brilliant they provided lots of information and made us feel really welcome and comfortable. The breakfast was fabulous and the coffee was excellent. The best coffee in all of Japan . They also offer a great breakfast menu with great options for foreigners the bathrooms are really good and clean. Also having washing facilities was a really big bonus the proximity to the ferry is so good. You can relax over brekkie and make the early ferry for the islands still easily . We were so happy with UNO port inn we stayed 3 nights.

Just the futon on the floor was not great but was still pretty good. If I was younger would not be an issue but when you are over 60 years not so easy to get up and down - but good exercise I guess!

We first took note of the exceptional location and pricing for Uno Port Inn. And yes, both are terrific. Having now stayed there, we can enthusiastically add the staff to the unqualified attributes of Uno Port Inn. From our warm greeting upon arrival to our goodbye picture the day of departure, every interaction with the staff members was not only cordial in the way one would hope of a lodging establishment, but in fact much more. The staff took a personal interest in our itinerary, offered meaningful suggestions and feedback, followed up after the fact to ask how our excursions went, provided recommendations, tended to any need we identified for our room, and above all were authentic and genuine in their engagement with us. Further, every inquiry we made of Uno Port Inn in advance, via email, was met with a very prompt, extraordinarily detailed and very meaningful response. We will simply note further that this establishment is clean, safe, comfortable and well-tended. The location is fantastic, impossible to beat for access to the train station, the ferry terminal and the passenger boat departure point. If you are in Uno Port intending to visit the art islands, stay at Uno Port Inn.

Excellent location right near train station, bus stop and ferry port !! Accommodating and friendly staff (especially Long) with lots of recommendations for nearby restaurants and activities. They were responsive on messages through the app leading up to our stay and held our luggage for the day while we went over to Naoshima Island, and after a hot and long day on the island our bags were in our room and the aircon was on. Highly recommended this accommodation for a trip to Naoshima or other nearby islands.

We stayed at this hotel just for one night as a base whilst we explored the art islands. It was absolutely perfect - couldn’t be closer to the ferry port and the staff went above and beyond to offer us advice, tips and excellent service. Big shout out especially to Long who welcomed us at the end of a long day and gave us some great tips. Also Minh on reception who we had a lovely chat with. The breakfast sandwiches were some of the best we have ever had! We will definitely be back.
