All staffs were amazing. Email communications was very smooth before the trip too. They are so friendly with high quality guest service manner and care. The staffs are from various countries, and they speak English. The foreign staffs speak wonderful Japanese too. A staff took us to buy lunch, took us to the museum, picked us up and completely took care of us and our needs. Dinner - it was wonderful. I was with my elderly mother, so requested less salt. All the food was so flavourful with Umami. I really wish I could go there again.

Nothing to do with the hotel, but that night was very windy. The wind kept rattling the entrance door, so I could not sleep well as I am a light sleeper in general. The bathroom facing the mountain with floor to ceiling glass window gave me an onsen open feeling. It was clean and the temperature was very comfortable. It is surely safe and they assured no-one is outside, but I was shy to be totally naked in that environment. I drove a rental car to the hotel, and it was challenging to find a narrow street from the main road. I will ask for pick up service from the ferry terminal next time as they are so kind.

Everything was exceptional. The attention to detail in the room, service from staff, preparation, presentation and serving of food. Even though it was winter we sat outside next to the firepit after dinner and it was very comfortable. The beds were very comfortable, the private onsen with view out to the woodland beyond was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The room was spacious and perfectly equipped with everything you might need. Ryokan Roka has managed to combine current cuisine with the type of service that hasn’t been seen in many fine dining restaurants around the world in years. Congratulations.

Everything about our stay was exceptional! Every moment was a delight, and the staff went above and beyond with their kindness and attentiveness, ensuring that everything ran seamlessly. I truly appreciated how they paid attention to even the smallest details, from personalized service to the thoughtful variation in the menu throughout our stay. Each dish was absolutely divine. The perfect balance of modern comfort and traditional Japanese culture made for an unforgettable experience. I'd love to return and highly recommend to anyone seeking an authentic experience of both worlds!

Ryokan Roka is located on what they call the "Art Island" Everything was Fabulous. Amazing. Perfect. Gorgeous. The staff was so helpful and willing to solve any problems or questions. We were provided with drivers and vans to help us get to the museums and galleries. Our room was the largest we had in our 6-week trip to Japan. Unusual and amazing - what a treat! The food was beyond fantastic... it was Mouthwatering delicious. We had all come to view art, and it was wonderful to also be surrounded by art throughout the hotel So, so happy we stayed here.

The whole layout of the ryokan was magnificent. We really enjoyed our room at No 11 as its interior was simply divine. The tatami mattress with the thick fluffy comforter gave us a good night of rest. It’s wonderful to be able to soak in the onsen whenever we would like to do so. What’s even greater is the dual mirror and hand wash sink. No need to wait for each other. Little details like hooks for towels and bath robes were carefully thought through. The patio to look out gave us time to reflect and take in the ambience. As for the premise, we liked the fire place as it kept us warm in the cold weather. The zen gravel garden was equally attractive. The staff were very well trained. We particularly liked interacting with Chat (from Sri Lankan) who checked us in /out and gave us our room tour as well as MJ (from the Philippines) who drove us to and fro Miyanoura Port. There was also the female staff who served us our dinner whose name we didn’t get as we were so fascinated by each and every dish. We thanked her for making our dinner experience as memorable.

Hmm…the room wasn’t particularly sound proof. There was this couple in Room 12 and the man was singing awfully late till 11 pm. Perhaps he was drunk. He only stopped after my husband banged on the adjoining wall.

This property is one of the most special places i have ever stayed in. Every area is so well considered with the attention to detail and the materials used extraordinary. The food both nights i stayed were highlights of my whole trip and every single staff member from the moment i arrived couldn’t have been more warm and welcoming. As i was travelling alone - they took the time ask me of i had a preference where i’d like to sit during dinner in case i felt uncomfortable in any way which was so sweet and appreciated.

This is a standout 10/10 experience - it’s perfect. Truly.

Ambience, Vibe, Architecture, Room, Soap and Shampoo is so aromatic, Superb Service, Dinner is so tasty 💯 ordered sushi course (omakase)​ They have pick up private shuttle bus service for hotel guest. (You can tell them u prefered time) Super convenient! Must come Hotel in Naoshima!!!!! This place for me kind of better than Benesses Hotel Room

Roka Ryokan is a must if you plan to stay on Naoshima. My partner and I stayed in the deluxe ryokan in March 2024 which was absolutely beautiful. I would recommend this time of year where it’s not too cold to cycle around the island, however you can open up the doors and have the cool air enter the onsen area. The dinner included within the room was a highlight of the trip, where the beautifully curated menu showcased some of Japan’s best cuisine. We had a very special time here and will remember it forever!

This is an amazing hotel. Luxurious and full of perfect details. The staff was extremely helpful. The property is absolutely beautiful. The lobby and restaurant and very nice. There is a firepit area around a rock garden that was amazing. The room is perfect, tatami mats and a huge closet. The seating area is spacious. The sink and vanity area has excellent lighting. The best thing about this room is the bath area. The room is warm and covered in beautiful wood. The shower has an abundant por and perfect temperature. The bath products are delicious. The in room onsen overlooking a beautiful wooded area is perfection. There were all sorts of slippers, pajamas and comfortable dress choices included too. We had a spa day day with a visit from a shiatsu specialist which left us feeling extremely relaxed. This is a dream hotel.

We enjoyed the japanese breakfast but the western breakfast was not as great. Dinner was ok, abundant but not very interesting. We got the vegetarian version so maybe that did not get us as great a menu as the regular meal.
