The 2 Cave onsens were out of this world. We could stay in the onsen forever watching the waves. The caves were also well ventilated and not hot like other indoor onsens. Ample soap, shampoo, conditioner like the rest of Japan. This hotel also generously supplied facial wash and all sorts of face, hair and body lotions at the onsen area. Very thoughtful to provide a basket for every guest to visit the onsen. We booked the Jap room at Nissho Kan building. It was spacious & has a small dressing area with sliding doors for privacy. Separate WC & bath & basin areas Room had an amazing ocean view, with waves splashing right at us. Saw the sun rise over the sea right from our room one morning. Enormous hotel complex with 4 separate buildings. It will take you at least 5 mins to walk between the onsens (2 cave onsens & 2-3 indoor onsens). 2 restaurants, a Lawsons & other souvenir shops inside the hotel complex. Superb breakfast buffet with plenty to choose from. We loved the Japanese egg rolls (freshly made by a chef there), potato salad, cream pasta, butter croissants, mirin mackerels. There is even soft serve ice cream & beer. Enjoy your breakfast as you watch the waves splash up meters from you. More than enough coin-operated washing machines cum dryers. Machines will automatically dry the clothes at the end of the wash. (You can change for coins at the reception.) Excellent staff. One morning, the sun shone very brightly onto us during breakfast. One second later, a staff magically appeared and lowered the blinds for us. Our mattresses were folded in the mornings and laid out in the evenings.

Separate taps for hot & cold water at basin inside our room. Curtains do not block out the light. The hotel is not new or posh. Each mattress is rather thin. As there were 2 of us in a room with 4 mattresses, we added another layer each.

This huge hotel complex feels like a strange mix between a Las Vegas Hotel from the 60s, a cruise ship and an old James Bond movie set. We loved the location - you are right at the ocean on a land tip - the massive halls, gang ways and stairs/ mega - escalators. The room was very spacious and the breakfast buffet almost overwhelming. We tried all Onsens and they were good, however, like the whole facility, it needs some upgrades to arrive at the 21st century.

Love the old 50's/60's style decor, and the absolutely outrageous design concept. 4 separate buildings on a small peninsula with tunnels cut through the rock connecting the 4 buildings. We stayed in a building with a view of the harbour. Very spacious room (10 mats to my recollection, with an annex of 4 mats), with ensuite and toilet. The views were good and the sea cave onsens were amazing. The buffet dinner and breakfast was extensive and really not too bad considering the scale of it all. The vibe was cruise ship on land. Other great things - the indoor amusement arcade, indoor shopping arcade in one of the tunnels, onsite combini, and of course the onsens. There is also the outrageous escalator which ascends some 80 metres through the rock. Absolutely worth visiting for the vibe, the decor, the architectural concept and the cruise ship on land feel. The description of "Bond Villain lair" which has been used definitely fits.

Not a lot to say. If you don't like the old style design and furnishings, and like shiney new places this is not for you. Perhaps one thing to note is that the boat access from the pier stops after 7pm, so the option of dining in town and coming back would mean an early dinner, however the buffet dinner has to be had for the experience.

What I liked may be what you won’t: this place is aging. Like rural Japan, it’s has remained almost unchanged since the bubble burst in 1990ish and so, this is time travel in another era, the Showa era when Japan was booming. Long, odd tunnels that connect onsens and 4 buildings built atop a rocky island, man, this is Sean Connery’s James Bond material. Our view over the ocean was spectacular and for that alone, I would have stayed longer. Not to expensive either.

As many for others establishments, failure to instruct foreign customers on good manners, particularly in the onsens. Food just ok, wait after the rush for the buffet.

The resort nature of this place was fun and unusual--I didn't expect the massive arcade and shopping lane! My Japanese-style room which overlooked the ocean was spectacular, and the cave onsens were remarkable and a really special experience. Staff were very helpful and both parking and train station access were easy. I was here to walk the Kumano pilgrimage trail and it was convenient for a visit to Nachi Falls. Overall I do recommend this place if you're a bit of an adventurous traveler and want a unique experience.

The bathroom in the room was small and dark and dingy. The locker rooms and bathing facilities and the indoor onsens were a bit run down and dirty. The meals were a very mediocre buffet, and they warned in advance that you had to come to breakfast early or risk not being able to be seated at all. I would suggest just get food from the convenience store and eat breakfast in the room, and go to dinner somewhere else if possible. Everything was a bit loud: I would NOT recommend for sensory issues.

This is a huge resort, like a small village, sitting on the peninsula, from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain. There are several buildings connected by tunnels and the longest escalator in Japan. Due to a schedule change, I extended my stay and experienced both the main building, which faces the port, and the Nissho Kan building, which faces the ocean. Personally, I love the Nissho Kan view much better. The cave onsen is the highlight. and do not miss the observatory on top. The hotel provides shuttle ferries and buses, which is absolutely helpful. If you want to see the tuna market auction early in the morning, take the 6:40 shuttle bus.

There are not many choices for restaurants, and the buffet for breakfast and dinner is even below average. The public area is out of date.

You get to the hotel via a ferry boat shaped like a turtle! It runs often so you are always connected to the main pier next to the train station. The location is one of the highlights of the hotel. In the middle of the sea, you can go to the top and be amazed by the views (ocean, forest, mountain....). The best part of course is the onsens. The hotel has been built on top of the natural hot springs that created the famous onsen of which the hotel is proud of. The best ones are the two overlooking the ocean (part indoor part outdoor). They are clean and full of amenities (creams, shower caps etc). The size of the room is generous and they provide bottles of water and snacks. They also give you yukatas and slippers to go around the hotel and trust me when I say that it is super huge!! You may get lost but it's fun to go and explore the areas. The buffet breakfast and dinner is full of choices. If you are vegan or vegetarian you will find many options and the food is tasty and fresh.

The hotel itself was supposed to be one of the most luxurious accommodations back in the 60s and you can actually picture its rooms back in the glorious days but now it needs a serious revamp. One or two onsen really needs to get fixed. Some areas are old/damaged and in disuse. Some facilities are closed. At the sunrise restaurant the food options are repetitive. Tattoo wearers are not allowed in the onsens however if you are able to cover them, then there is no problem. I have tattoos and I covered them with plasters and it was ok (also nobody checks). The thing is, the hotel is special also because of these flaws so I would still recommend it!

The hotel is composed of 4 buildings, and there are 5 onsens spreading around in the hotel. Two cave onsens are really amazing. Highly recommended to stay 2 nights. Buffets breakfast and dinner are good and there are variety of food to choose. Especially the expresso are really tasty. If you drive a car, some staff are stand ready in their parking lot to take you to hotel by shuttle bus. The last time is until 7:30pm. If you go out in the morning, they are ready at anytime to bring you to the parking lot. Very convenient.

The staff were wonderful and arranged for us to have dinner at the Japanese restaurant on site when we arrived very lste in the evening. The meal was a banquet! Restaurant staff were absolutely lovely too. The public baths are fantastic, they each even have their own stamp for you to collect on the necessary map. The hotel complex is huge! When I enquired about bathing rules in regards to tattoos I was told it was fine because I am not Japanese - meaning the cultural rules don't apply when you aren't part of that culture. Stunning views from our room. Fantastic buffet meals.
