The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The food served was excellent. The bath was nice. The only drawback was that the beds are on the floor. With a bad back, it was hard to stand. The scenery is fabulous especially in the morning! The staff also assisted with transportation to and from the train station and the house. We spent part of a day and night at Yufuin, which felt a bit rushed; but, the result of a lack of trains going in and out of Yufuin and the high number of tourists. Lots of food to eat however once you get into the village.

Bed was on the floor. Hard for older guests, I think. Other than that everything was very nice. There was complimentary water and a wonderful lime drink in the refrigerator in the room.

A great stay. Excellent food, great staff and a beautiful location. The staff were particularly keen to engage and help out (chats about the food and offering to take photo was a nice touch). However for the price a few things could have been a little different. For example, the dinner service could have been a bit slower. Given the amount of food and number of courses, the dinner felt a bit rushed. For the price, I would expect the public bath/onsen to be complimentary. An extra fee (1100Y) was a bit disappointing. The rooms are clean, but the onsen room could use a deep clean. Given the flow of water 24hrs a day, it's not surprising it's always a bit damp. The hotel is 30 mins walk from the main town, but there is a shuttle twice a day 10am (to town) and 4pm (from town). A on demand shuttle might be a nice bonus.

Wish we stayed another night. Loved the town & this hotel. We booked the room with private onsen on balcony which was amazing. We didn’t use other private onsen in the hotel but they did have one you could reserve. The room had the traditional Japanese style but with a western mattress so that was lovely and comfy.

It’s a tad outside of the town but still a very manageable walk (and you get the great view from being up higher). Came with breakfast which was traditional (fish etc), not quite to our tastebuds but that’s just personal preference - it was still a great local experience to try.

I had a wonderful experience during my stay. The private onsen with a beautiful mountain view was truly relaxing and memorable. Additionally, the fine dining in traditional Japanese style was exceptional, offering a perfect balance of taste, presentation, and atmosphere. I would also like to commend the staff member, Jeffery, who served us with fluent Mandarin and provided excellent service, including detailed explanations throughout the dinner. His attentiveness greatly enhanced our overall experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a luxurious and authentic Japanese experience.

The location is a bit far from train station, however, the hotel do provide free transportation service.

We loved our stay in at this property in Yufin. The room was wonderful, and very comfortable. We particularly enjoyed our outside onsen which was private and overlooked Mt Yufin. The view was stunning. Meals were beautifully presented and were exceptional and we really could not fault any of the dishes that we had. They have a shuttle bus which they offer to take you to the station, however this does not operate on Sundays. Yufin is a beautiful place and staying here was a treat for us which we loved.

Staff were a bit curt and we found it hard to contact them by phone. They would answer and when asked if they spoke English we were left waiting and eventually we hung up as no one came back on the phone. On trying to ring again no one picked up again, which was frustrating. When arriving 2 hrs earlier (in the rain) we were first told we could not book in, we did understand this but we certainly did not want to go back out into the rain with our luggage, having arrived by taxi from the station.

The food is amazing, it is basically Michelin stars standard and I have been to a few Michelin stars restaurant. Beside the quality, there were variety and creativity instead of the typical Ryokan's food. If anything I will be back for the food.

I booked a 61sqm room, yet the bedroom space is rather small. Lots of wasted space in the foyer area which cant really be used. It came with a private onsen so taking up lots of bath room space. They painted the ceiling black and the wall is dark wood, so the room is dark all the time, there isn't enough lights from the outside to brighten up the room. Internal lighting is also bear minimum. Gave a gloomy depressing feel to it. If not because of the food, I don't think I want to be back.

LOVED staying at this ryokan! It was beautiful, the staff were kind and VERY attentive, and the meals were INCREDIBLE!! I couldn’t even finish my dinner on the last night I was so stuffed. The room was also lovely, and I LOVED having a private onsen. It was pretty hazy most of the time but when it was clear the view of the mountain was gorgeous! I was the only solo traveler when I was there (from what I could see)- this particular ryokan seems to be a popular spot as a couples get away but I definitely still enjoyed myself!

This is not really a negative point, more of an FYI. Based on the location of the hotel, the only ways to get there from the train station or any of the main parts of town are the shuttle bus they provide for check in and check out, or a taxi. They were very kind and accommodating, but if you come here relying on public transportation, just plan for that.

All the staff was super attentive and helpful! Shout out to Denny (if I got your name right 😅)and his colleagues for making our stay so comfortable! Food was great and the shuttle service to the station is so helpful!

The private bath in the room, maybe it was not temperature regulated. So after a long period of not using it, the water inside will cool down thus making it not as hot. And it takes a while for it to be back at the “onsen” temperature. But other than that overall it was great!

The town is really lovely and the personnel of the hotel is extremely nice and attentive to your every need. The diner and breakfast are very generous, we are not really used to eating that much for the breakfast but it was interesting to try the traditional breakfast. Really great to have our own little onsen in the room (beware only one person can fit)

The shower is actually outside (same terrace than the onsen) and the shower fittings were a bit outdated and a bit dirty. It should be changed. Also we found the pillows extremely hard.

A truly wonderful experience. The food was the best I've ever eaten. Dinner was about 8 courses and seemed Michelin star quality to an amateur like me! The cabin we had with a large, private onsen was beautiful. The view of the mountain from the onsen was sublime. The accommodation was not extravagant or luxurious but authentic and comfortable. An experience we won't forget - magical.

Hard to come up with anything. I think the Japanese are a reserved people so perhaps the staff could have been warmer but that's a cultural thing I suspect, so not really a criticism. I think too much warmth and interaction from staff is frowned on in Japan, so to be expected.
