It was hard to get a feel of this ryokan based on pictures alone, but it was a truly exceptional stay. I was worried Yufuin would be crowded and busy, it kind of was on some streets, but the calm and comfort of the ryokan meant it was one of my most memorable stays on a 30 day Japan trip. There is a wide selection of both indoors / outdoors public and private onsen baths at this ryokan. Not sure why the private bath system exists, probably for shy families who don't want to be naked around strangers, but I made the most of it by sampling three different baths during my stay. Food is served in a dining hall, with special private rooms for solo travellers, which I thought was a nice touch. Food deserves a 8.5-9/10 mark, it was good, fresh, plentiful, and varied. I have been spoiled in the past and have had a few 10/10 meals in ryokans, this was not quite there, but also this means the price of the stay wasn't sky-high. The room felt new and was very pretty.

It's hard to find anything to improve. But for the sake of constructive criticism, my room was on the road side, and I felt like soundproofing could be a bit better. Also, it's too bad that baths are closed in the time frame between breakfast's end and before checkout. Finally, and this is in no way the hotel's fault, but I got laughed at by East Asian tourists who were surprised to see a non East Asian wearing a yukata on his way to the bath. Really?! We don't laugh at you guys when you wear Western clothes...

The service was top notch, and our host was gracious with explaining anything I was unfamiliar with as this was my first ryokan experience. The kaiseki dinner was put together with all high-quality and local ingredients, and it was such a lovely experience. The room was spacious, clean, cozy and comfortable. Having our own in-room onsen not only felt luxurious, but was a necessity with my husband and I having tattoos. Breakfast the following morning was a traditional Japanese meal, which was filling and flavorful without being heavy. It was a charming experience that showed me the true meaning of Japanese hospitality.

Not a thing, this was one of the best places I've ever stayed.

location is perfect . We are pampered by all service provided by ryokan. Staff only speaks japanese but they provided notice and card in English to explain the rules in the ryokan. Half board kaiseki dinner and breakfast is delicious. Room is spacious with view of Yufuin mountain. They have both public and 4-5 private outdoor and indoor onsen. We have no problem to reserve the private onsen . Duration is limited for 50 minutes but it is more than enough. We really enjoy the stay here at this beautiful Ryokan.

Around 8 minutes walk from the JR station, 2 mins walk to AEON. The room is nice and clean, same as the picture that you found on the site. Dinner and breakfast is okay.

Staffs are not good at English but all staffs are super nice. For dinner, they serve the meal quite fast, we haven't finished the appetizer yet and another dish is served. Breakfast at 8am, they will morning call you to go for breakfast, as we woke up late and still tidying up in the bedroom around 8:10am, they called again to remind you to have breakfast.

We had two great days here. Our Japanese-style room had a private onsen outside. The bathroom appeared to have just been renovated. The entire property was clean and well maintained. The landscaped courtyard was especially nice. Perhaps we were lucky, but we were able to reserve and try out a total of four other onsen for ourselves - all of which were very nice. The staff were extremely friendly. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. It is a short walk from the train and bus station.

The only thing I can mention is that the ceiling light in the main room, i.e. where you sleep and where we also ate on the first night, was unfortunately very cold fluorescent light. In our opinion, this did not match the otherwise very cosy atmosphere in the house. Unfortunately, there was also no small bedside lamp, only this cold ceiling light. There seemed to have been a pond in the back garden, which was drained at least at the time of our visit.

The second floor of public onsen has a view of Mr. Yufuin which is nice. The ground is clean and pretty. The private onsen in the room is nice. The room is very well kept and has your own private but small garden.

Kaiseki is served in your room but they were served too fast. Our server kept coming back with more dishes. For the price of the room, we didn’t think the food was that great. Grilled fish was cold when it was served. We has better kaseiki before and this one was definitely a disappointment. Portion was big and we were very stuffed both for dinner and breakfast. We think the quality of the food definitely has room for improvement. There was no light at the private onsen in our room which is kind of strange.

Amazing location with marvelous rooms. We decided to book a room with a private onsen, it was beyond our expectations. It’s spacious and perfect to relax for a night. The nature is everywhere. We add a little issue during our stay but the staff did everything possible to resolve this problem in a few minutes. attentive and smiling, they take great care of their guests. we had a very good stay with the family. thank you

Nothing everything was perfect!

The Breakfast was excellent. The hotel is about 8 minutes walk from the Yufuin JR Station so very handy, but both the day I arrived and left it was raining. It would be perfect if the hotel can send a small car to pick us up from the station (even if they charge a small fee). So that we won't need to push the heavy luggage on the uneven street surface. This would work even better for elderly people.

None. we like everything about it. Would be even better if the charge is a bit lower.

Everything. Thank you for catering my dietary needs and the chef provides a menu for me. We are a group of 3 people, we can’t book a room with private onsen but was able to reserve a private onsen daily, which is so great! The staff are nice and friendly, they help to tidy up our room and prepare tea for us during our two nights stay. The location is good, near the station and we can hang around during the day. We would definitely come back again!

No everything is just great here.

It is so beautiful. If you really want to experience authentic japanese living, i really would recommend this place. From the japanese room with the view of garden and the mountain to the authentic “oishi” japanese kaiseki dinner and delicious breakfast. All ingredients are fresh and delicious. The place in near the station and shops and the lake are walkable. The experience of using the private onsen outside with garden view is best.

None. Everything is perfect
