This was an amazing experience, from check in all the way to check out. It’s a 10 minute stroll to and from Yufuin Station, a nice walk with shops along the way. We were greeted at the door by the staff, so friendly, nice and helpful, super easy check in process, immediately took our large baggage away to our room no problem. A staff member guided us to the room, introducing the amenities and the property along the way, he was super helpful and spoke very good English. He went through the offerings in the room and we were surprised to have our own Onsen in the room even though we booked a cheaper room. He organized dinner times for us before hand and our bags were waiting for us in the room. The dinner was multi course with local and high quality ingredients, it show case a bit of everything, from the sea, lakes and land. It was delicious along with great service. It was served in a separate dinning room with just us. The 3 private onsens were super nice, private and large and because they were only 11 rooms, they were not busy. The public open air bath were also very nice. The bed was comfortable with fast wifi and good AC. Breakfast was filling and was high quality as well. We needed our bags shipped to another hotel we were staying at, they arranged it no problem and the pricing was good. Worth every penny.

Excellent Location in the middle of cute shopping street with two museums within 3-5 min walk, pleasant to the eyes, and an easy along-the-river walk at the back. Yet, it is quiet and exclusive. But it is 12 min walk from train / bus station . Manageable on flat road with nice shops on both sides.

Nothing really, except the Japanese Kaiseki full board meals are not as good as some other ryokans. The quality of fish / sashimi is average.

This was such a special time to spend with my 89 year old Japanese mother, this is her last trip back home, as we live in Southern CA., USA. The staff, especially Fujiko-san who was our primary server during our most delicious and amazing gourmet Japanese meals, was gracious and so helpful. The ryokan is elegant, private yet warm and so wonderful. Time seemed to stop and we enjoyed both the public and private family Onsen baths. Yufuin is a very special place and we could just walk out of the oasis, which is Hinoharu Ryokan, and right on to the vibrant streets, to explore the wonderful shops against the backdrop of the mountains. We found so many fabulous gifts for our family and friends to take back home. I love all of the artisan shops with their one of a kind gifts made throughout Japan. My Ojisan (Japanese uncle) was very impressed that I had booked at such a revered ryokan (rated top ten ryokans in Japan by "Travel and Leisure" magazine). I just feel so grateful to experience such a traditional yet modern Japanese experience. I almost don't want to get the secret out about this very special place located in such an idyllic town. I definitely will be back as often as I can bringing family and friends.

Dinner and breakfast were exceptionally good. They took into account that two members of my party had food allergies. We were allowed to use both the public and private onsen facilities at no extra charge. There were no restrictions on the number of times we can use the private onsen facilities as long as they were available. Location of the hotel was right next to the main shopping street, near the popular croquette stand. The staff were very accommodating and allowed us to leave our bags with them both before check-in and after check-out so that we can continue to explore Yufuin unencumbered.

The futon bedding may be a little thin for people not used to sleeping on the hard floor. I did not see any elevators so guests with difficulty managing stairs should remember to request for a room on the ground level. There were also no vending machines for milk that's found in many onsen establishments.

Was an absolutely amazing stay. W The highlight of our trip. The location was great and the private onsen was absolutely amazing.

Good location. The food was delicious and with beautiful setting, and the hotel staff was very friendly and could communicate in English which making things easier for us when our family members had special requirements in food and luggage delivery.

The service by Erica was excellent. She looked after us a group of 6 in 3 rooms. She was cheerful, patience and walked us through everything we needed to know. We all enjoyed staying at this onsen.

One thing it could improve is to provide car pick up service for the customers. Even it was around 900m from the Yufuin train station, we had 2 big suitcases and couldn’t walk to the onsen. Taxi only costs 550 yen but there was a long queue to wait for our term.

The staff are all very nice and helpful. My friends have food allergy and few staff kept reconfirm with me about the special arrangement. To cope with our schedule, the front desk offered us late checkout generously. The room was clean and cozy and foods were delicious. Location is perfect.

The public onsen was under maintenance when we wanted to use before we check out. we can only use the family onsen
