We had a great stay at Puerta Azul. The location was perfect for us. It’s about a 20 minute walk down the beach from the center. (It’s also about a 20 minute walk down the beach to Punta Coco where the bioluminescent bay is.) We were not interested in the night life, so we liked being a little bit out of the way. The beach is gorgeous and is just steps away from the hotel. The beach club was very comfortable and we spent a lot of time sitting in the shaded chairs. The complimentary breakfast was amazing. You get an item from the menu with coffee, bread, fresh fruit, and fresh juice. Portions were generous. We ate one night at the beach restaurant and the food was good. We got drinks there most nights. There was a good variety of music there, including a live DJ one night. The room was large and clean with daily maid service if you want it. Shower had good hot water. AC worked well. There is filtered water available in reception. A small table in the room would have been nice. The pool was a nice place to cool down after the heat of the day. Everyone on staff was warm and helpful. They helped us organize taxis and tours that all worked out great. I can’t say enough good about them. If we go back to Holbox we will definitely return to Puerta Azul.

When it came to paying for the room, the hotel tried to make us pay 1200 pesos more than what booking.com said we would pay on arrival. This is because apparently they set their rates in dollars, but by card you (must) pay in pesos at their own elevated exchange rate, pcoketing themselves a 10% commission in the process. Beware!

This hotel was in an amazing location. It took us 20 minutes to walk into town along the beach. There were plenty of restaurants and beach bars close by and it was a short walk to the Bioluminiscencia where we saw flamingos and bioluminescence at night. It cost 200 pesos for a taxi from the ferry port to the hotel. The staff very all very friendly and helpful. Our room was cleaned daily and was very comfortable. The room was large and beautifully decorated. It was quiet with a comfy bed and effective air-con. There was no TV which was refreshing but good wi-fi. The breakfast was fantastic and plentiful! We were offered homemade juices, coffee, a plate of fresh fruit, toast and jam and then you got to choose a dish off the breakfast menu (there was a large range so something for everyone). The hotel was on the beach so you could walk out and relax on the sunbeds free of charge (plenty in the sun and in the shade). The hotel beach bar was great with tasty lunch options and an fantastic 2 for 220 pesos cocktail deal. The ocean was crystal clear and seaweed free. We could not check out late but that was only because they had another booking- we could store our luggage and they had showers so we could freshen up before traveling which was great.

This hotel was great and I have no complaints.

Location being beachfront was nice Plunge pool was great to have in the yard Having a room with kitchenette was helpful liked the colourful plates and bowls. Drinking water available in reception. Quiet air conditioning.

The continental breakfast that's included was tiny, very thinly slliced few bits of fruit, one toast, fruit juice and coffee. If you wanted anything else it was 255 mxn to order. Sometimes the music at the beach club was loud and unsuitable to daytime. Would be nice to have matresses on sunbeds. The hob in the room was temperamental, sometimes it would switch itself of after 2-3 minutes, sometimes worked perfect.

The hotel was beautiful, the room itself was stunning! The food was great and the front desk staff were kind and helpful.

The restaurant staff were very standoffish toward me because I was a solo traveler. It seemed like they didn't want me there or that I didn't belong, even though I went there for breakfast every day. That was the most uncomfortable part of my stay. Other than that it was great!

Great location by a peaceful stretch of beach. Lovely setting to eat and drink on the beach. Comfortable room with nice balcony overlooking the garden.

Would have been nice to have a fridge in the room, or for the water dispenser at reception to dispense chilled water. There is lots of development happening on the island (we were there in June 25), so occasional drilling and other construction noise.

The hotel is very beautiful. We had a sea view room and it was truly stunning and clean. Staff was nice and welcoming. They offered good breakfast options.

Since in Yucatan peninsula every 4 and 5 star hotel offers natural juice with breakfast that is included in the stay, I would suggest that they offer that too. We paid extra for it every morning but it is just not the 4* expectation to get a box juice.

We toured everywhere in the island and our hotel had the best beach area in the island without a doubt along with Nomade Hotel which is right next to ours but La Puerta Azul is definitely a more affordable option. We stayed in May when Playa Holbox was covered with seaweed everywhere so I'm really happy that we stayed here as it was a bit away from the crowd and we get to enjoy swimming where there was no seaweeds at all and only the beautiful sea and lounge area under the coconut trees and a beach bar with swings. Their a la carte breakfasts were good too.

The restaurant and bar on the beach had the best views and was fun to hang out during the day but it was very weak on vegan&vegetarian options. We had to leave and go somewhere else every time we wanted to eat. If they offered more options besides the simple nachos and guacamole, we wouldn't have wanted to leave for the most time. They did not provide shampoo in the showers though we requested for it, and there were some stains on the sheets so they need to improve their cleanliness too.

Location was perfect. Best beach on the island! All the staff were so wonderful… Special shout-outs to Karolina, Adrian, and Marcos for being perfect hosts! 🩵🩵🩵 The restaurant had good food, their ceviche was excellent and I recommend their limomenta! All staff were polite and professional. Rooms were very cute and comfortable. I loved the decor and ambiance. The beach has beautiful, warm, shallow & clear water. No sargasso whatsoever! Only soft, white sand and lots of shells. Plenty of comfy beach loungers and shade. Beach bar waitresses were attentive and sweet. Massages available on the beach as well. And they don’t play obnoxiously loud music, which I appreciate!

Mosquitoes were out of control, but that is not the hotels fault. Hotel is a bit far from town, but it is worth it.

- amazing location right at beach with on beach club who had nice cocktails and food, in the evening some people who came back from punta cocos came to join the beach club. - nice roof top terrace for breakfast, with many dishes to choose from, definitely enough food, freshly prepared dishes - easy to book trips via hotel - bikes could be rented at hotel - very nice and clean apartment, only toilet didn't always flush that well
