Le Grand Alcazar is truly grand in all respects from its architecture to its staff. A gem in the heart of Fes, the tone is set from the very top and ever since we booked the riad, Omar, one of the owners was very friendly, answering numerous details of not just Fes, but looked into providing us recommendations of our entire desert trip. When we arrived, Dua, treated us to Moroccan mint tea and refreshments and showed us the room; Youssef and his wife welcomed us in the evenings and when we felt uncomfortable returning from the medina on our first night, Youssef walked about 15 minutes each way to get us back from the restaurant. Breakfast begins at 8 am, however, on Omar's insistence the staff made it available to us at 7:30 am, to help us get started early for our long drive to the desert on the day of the checkout. Truly outstanding!! Our days in Fes were cut short due to a massive downpour; however, the riad provided us with umbrellas, and the appointed guide, Abdul- we booked through the riad was wonderful. He made sure that we covered our must-dos within a truncated day (reduced hours due to Ramadan and rain) and went over and beyond what was expected of him to ensure that we covered the ramparts later in the day when the rain stopped. The Grenat suite, our room was very ornate and traditionally decorated with a balcony attached to the room and easy access to the terrace; has a beautiful view of the medina and the ramparts. We chose it because of that and it didn't disappoint. Breakfast was excellent and served fresh to your table and not a buffet. One point, I want to mention is that drop-off in Morocco is not always in front of hotels; in the old city, they are often in alleys where it is not accessible by cars; in such a case, porterage from hotel to pick-up point becomes important; in Le Grand Alcazar, assistance was provided without any question; that was not our experience in some other riads; this is important and made a huge difference.

None, everything was great. This is not a negative, but to make people understand the trade-offs of a riad structure. Please keep in mind, that being on high floors, means that numerous narrow stairs have to be navigated, so if you have mobility issues, keep that in mind when booking- this is true for most riads; rooms are either inward-facing with no outside view on lower floors but if you want a terrace view, be prepared to climb up; we loved it and knew that so we were not surprised; also not all rooms have attached balcony, please read the fine details; the staff helped bring our luggage to our room.

I have traveled all over the world and been to many great resorts and 5 star hotels but this is the first time I’ve ever stayed at a Riad; it was the greatest place I’ve ever been. Youssef and his nephew Mohammed made this place spectacular for me. When I arrived, I had broken my selfie stick in Merzouga so I lamented this fact over a mint tea over a pleasant conversation with Youssef. He immediately sends his wonderful young nephew to my aid and within minutes I was riding with him on his motorcycle all over Fez and we solved the problem before I even unpacked! This was the moment that I realized that I was dealing with the greatest people in this country. I returned to find that I would be given the room right next door to the pool where I would have access to it 24 hours a day! This is my dream! I get to be in a palace and lie in the pool of a massive living room area and play my travel music. It was so incredible. And unlike so many places in Morocco, they brought me wine! All I had to do was pay them in advance. This is a huge deal for me as I got to drink white wine at the pool after midnight and lounge around like I was so important. I had the time of my life here! My greatest regret is that I only booked 3 nights here; I wished I booked a whole week! The place is just so gorgeous and I love the beautiful colors everywhere. They would serve me my meals anywhere I asked. I like the terrace area because the skyline over Fez is just lovely! Mohammed is such a sweetheart too. He would bring me all of my food and could not wait to serve me. I asked him to join me a few times too because he is so fun to talk to and loves hearing you tell stories. Sometimes I would come up with one of my fun ideas and they would make it happen. Like I wanted to lie out and tan up on the terrace and these wonderful people brought me towels and a bucket of ice and set up the pillows and reclining areas to better suit me. I would do anything to live like this forever!

It is perfect! No complaints at all.

Me and my family stayed at grand alcazar for 4 days and it was perfect. The location (very close to one street we car can pass), the beautiful riad and the staff (thank you Yousra) were great. The room accommodate me, my husband and our 4 year old twins perfectly. The breakfast was very good also, with moroccan breads, jam, honey, almond paste and omelete or scrambled eggs…they served kids yogurt for my children. And Yousra helped us with booking a tour guide, making reservations for visiting a winery in meknes and gave us restaurants recommendations . The only appointment i should do is about the bathroom, the shower area was small an and the lighting was poor.

The staff, Yousra, Youssef, and Mohamed are absolutely amazing. They are so kind and go completely out of their way to help. On our first night, I was craving Bissara - a local soup. Mohamed just popped out and got some for me. He also went to the station for us and bought our train tickets, The kids wanted some fruit and without even asking he just popped out and bought some. I'd been searching for a tagine pot in Fes but could find what i wanted. In the morning a few hours before we were leaving Mohamed went to the souk for me, sent me a few pictures and found exactly what I was looking for and negotiated an excellent price. I was absolutely delighted! Yousara and Youssef are equally amazing. Yousara was very responsive on WhatsApp answering all my questions quickly and both giving excellent recommendations. Breakfast was delicious at the Riad with fresh home cooked flatbreads, pancakes, omelettes, freshly squeezed orange juice, cakes etc. Their hospitality, friendliness and kindness is truly exceptional and I would definitely stay here again if I am back in Fes. Also location is brilliant- just a few mins walk away from the souks at the Blue Gate

Excellent location, close to a road where we could easily get a taxi, and also close to many shops and to other points of interest in the medina. It felt quite safe too. The staff were very helpful and assisted us with our luggage, arranging tours, etc. Breakfast was fantastic. But to me, the selling point is the beauty of the riad itself - I loved just sitting in the little breakfast nook every morning, looking at the intricate walls, doors, and arches.

The couches, bed, and pillows were not very comfortable. I think having better bedding would have made this an excellent stay. The wardrobes in the bathroom are in need of repair (they don't stay closed and look quite shabby). Also, sometimes the cleaning staff would be very loud and noisy in the hallway while we were resting in the room, which was a bit disturbing.

The riad was beautiful, with a gorgeous courtyard, delicious breakfast and the most incredible mint tea. It is also within an 8 minute walk to the Blue Gate souk and good restaurants. Terrific location. The morning manager, Yousra, was a stand out host who offered a very warm welcome and went above and beyond to settle us in. She spent a great amount of time helping us with our sim cards, walking us through the souk to show us where the restaurant we booked for dinner was, and was available even after hours when we had questions. Yousra is a credit to the riad and would be the reason we would return.

We chose to have dinner at the riad one evening, which, while incredibly delicious our experience was somewhat tarnished by the evening manager. While not outright rude, he seemed distracted by his own personal guest who he entertained in the same courtyard as we were having dinner in. It made our dinner feel like an imposition. Hoping this was a one-off situation, we still enjoyed our stay. Besides the above, the room heat pump was incredibly loud and we risked being cold one evening in order to keep the heat off.

Very nice host and service staff. Location is walkable to Medina Accommodate families Ok breakfast Provided milk for babies Moved us down to ground floor because stairs were dangerous for kids and high impact on my weak knee

Rooms on the ground floor have a distinct sewage smell. Purchased Glade autofreshner to help with room smell. Charges for everything - water, mint tea, anything outside first night. Other riads provide at least water. Rooms above ground floor require steep stairs No room to reception calling option If u r in top room, and need service, you are screwed to walk down. Very tiring steps.

The staff was AMAZING. Very helpful and informative. Helped us coordinate tours and gave great restaurant recommendations. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace was great overlooking all of the medina (even though we felt bad the staff had to go up and down the stairs to serve us!). We weren't able to have breakfast the last morning and they packed us to go bags. They arranged porters for us early in the morning as well and helped us when we got there (it can be chaotic with all the locals trying to "help" you; we had rented a car and drove into Fes). The room itself was big and spacious and opened onto one of the inner courtyards. The extra heater in the bathroom was also super nice!

The bathroom - the bathtub had a glass door that wouldn't stay in place (had to wedge a tube under it) and the shower head/handle had such high pressure that the water would shot out the back of the tub and onto the bathroom floor, wetting it all. Being able to adjust the shower head so that it pointed more down would solve the problem. The light in the bathroom could also use a warmer tone - it seems very "clinical" in there.

Twin brothers, Omar and Othmane, decided on a career change and returned to their home town to open the Riad Grand Alcazar with a family member. They are both very astute in a business sense but they also understand the nature of hospitality. Riads are NOT hotels and should be your 'home from home' when in Morocco. This is exactly what the brothers have achieved and the Alcazar is perfect. You can pay more and get a more 'luxe' set up but really it is all about the welcome. The Alcazar is very keenly priced and if you want a premium welcome and very comfortable stay without paying premium prices, you MUST choose to stay here. The rooms are well appointed and the beds comfortable, the breakfast was quite delicious and the staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Special mention to Yussuf (the night manager) who gave us amazing recommendations and helped with our car hire return (tricky!).

This riad is a beautiful heaven of peace inside the bustling and chaotic Fes Medina. We were welcomed by delicious mint tea and moroccan pastries. Omar and all the team made sure we had everything we needed and more, it was our first taste of the moroccan hospitality and it exceeded our expectations. We had couple special arrangements to do and Omar made sure everything was done. We got some fantastic recommendations for dinner as well from the staff which are so kind. The included breakfast is delicious and very generous. This place is a Unesco world heritage site and all the wood and metal work, all the mosaic, has been done by hand which is fascinating. Location is great, right in the Medina but just a short walk away from all the shops so it’s quieter. The rooftop is beautiful too !
