I loved staying at Riad Layalina. I was nervous staying in Fes at the end of July that the temperature would be uncomfortable (I’m from the UK) but I found it was manageable and I’m so glad I went. The riad is beautiful and very comfortable. The pool is lovely and cool and the air conditioning in my room was good (it’s a little noisy but this can’t be helped). The team who work there are lovely and incredibly helpful. It’s in a great, quiet location on the edge of the medina. It’s easy to access by taxi or car but within close walking distance of many of the main sights and nice restaurants. I went sight seeing in the mornings, spent the hot afternoons relaxing in the cool of the riad and then headed out again in the evenings. I spent 5 days there which was perfect as I didn’t want to be rushing around trying to see everything in the heat. I would definitely go back.

Riad Layalina is an exceptional place. The surroundings are authentic, full of character and beautifully maintained, the beds are super comfortable and the location is just perfect for exploring the medina. The breakfast is fresh and hearty with a different selection of fruits, breads, preserves and cooked sundries each day and the setting overlooking the old city walls is divine. Not only that but the staff are marvellous, with a genuine desire to make your stay truly wonderful. We began our stay as guests and left as friends.

The only thing is I wish we would have had time to try one of their home cooked meals (which are no doubt amazing!)

The building is stunning — wonderful stucco, wood and tile work everywhere, a gorgeous courtyard and pool, great views from the rooftop and the second floor, as well as lovely interiors. The riad is just a couple of minutes away from Talaa Kebira (the main artery of the Medina), and yet, the atmosphere was very peaceful and serene, a much appreciated break from the bustle of Fes. The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive - Asma and Zacharias arranged walking tours and restaurant reservations for us, helped us put our food in plates and bowls whenever we brought restaurant leftovers home, and overall made us feel at home. The included breakfast is one of the best I have ever had: fresh orange juice, Moroccan tea, various types of freshly baked bread, eggs, marmalades, cheese… all served to us personally (not a buffet). We couldn’t ask for more — we will be coming back.

We spent two nights at Riad Layalina Fès and were thoroughly satisfied. The location is ideal – right next to the Medina, yet still easily accessible by car. One particular highlight was the secure parking in the courtyard – a real advantage in Fès and it saved us a lot of hassle. We were able to upgrade our originally booked room to a spacious suite for a small additional charge – definitely worth it. The accommodation itself is a traditionally decorated riad full of charm, tastefully furnished, and very clean. Breakfast on the terrace was traditional and delicious – with a wonderful view over the rooftops of Fès, it was the perfect start to the day. The staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and attentive – we felt well taken care of at all times. Especially helpful was their recommendation and organization of a private guide for a four-hour tour of the Medina. The guide was excellent – knowledgeable, personable, and very responsive to our interests. Overall, our stay was very enjoyable. We would return without hesitation and can highly recommend this riad.

We had a wonderful stay! The location was very convenient, they had secure parking for the car. We stayed 3 nights. The interior of the Riad was beautifully decorated and the room comfortable. The hospitality was outstanding. Asma made us delicious and generous portion breakfast included every day and we had 2 delicious dinners (for small extra fee). Asma is a great cook and she was the sweetest most helpful person! Jerome was always very helpful on where to go and gave us excellent recommendation for a guide for the Medina and an amazing restaurant for dinner. The terrace had a very nice view. Very enjoyable stay.

There were steep stairs to get to room, so something to be aware of if you have mobility issues.

Riad Layalina in Fes is truly something special—an absolute gem. Staying here feels like living in a beautifully preserved museum, with a blend of colonial and traditional Moroccan charm. The Riad is French-owned and exquisitely maintained, offering a unique atmosphere that’s both elegant and welcoming. With only a few rooms, it feels very intimate and family-friendly. The staff is kind, helpful, and attentive to individual needs. The rooftop terrace is stunning, with extraordinary views over Fes, and the entire property is spotlessly clean and peaceful. Breakfast is excellent, and they are happy to accommodate special requests. A truly memorable experience in a Riad full of character and beauty.

We were a little surprised they charged extra for water bottles.

This was our favourite hotel in Morocco. From the moment we walked in the door from a very long journey, we felt a home. Our host gave us a warm welcome with tea, water and biscuits. We were pleased also to be welcomed by their adorable little dog. Nothing was an issue and they helped us booking a delicious authentic Moroccan meal at a nearby restaurant. Also booked a guided walking tour with Moundire, what a positive and enthusiastic guide, felt like we were spending an afternoon with an old friend. if you come to Fes we highly recommend you request Moundire for a guided tour. The hotel and rooms were lovely, we definitely felt like we’d arrived in Morroco. The breakfast was outstanding!! A delicious feast to start your day. Parking is right across the road, making it easy to get luggage to the hotel and everything is an easy walk. This beautiful family take hospitality to the next level. If you come to Fes you must stay here!

Nothing. It was absolutely perfect

Old, very beautiful riad renovated and decorated with a good taste. it has excellent location, especially if you arrive with a car or with big suitcases. cars are not allowed in Medina and you don’t want to push your luckage through the labyrinth. Best of all, friendly service and excellent Moroccan food, thanks to Esme and her team. A strong recommendation !

There was a garden construction near by and they started early..

Stayed here for two nights. The Riad itself is incredibly beautiful, everything is spotlessly clean and features Moroccan tile work, fabrics, carpets and carving. It feels like you are living in a palace. The view over the Medina from the rooftop terraces is spectacular. Everything in the Medina is within easy walking distance, yet inside the Riad all is peace and serenity. The included breakfast is out of this world, and the staff is kind, attentive to every need, and yet never intrusive. We loved every minute of our stay. One caveat is that like in most buildings inside the Medina, the stairs are quite steep and may be difficult for people with mobility issues to navigate. This is truly the only potential issue, all other modern conveniences such as WiFi, running hot water, and in room climate control have been provided while maintaining the historical look of the rooms to the greatest extend possible. Can highly recommend, you will not be disappointed.

The warmest of Moroccan welcomes greeted us, though we were 2 hot and dusty travellers on our motorbike.. Our room was spacious, soft, and comfortable, with all the best facilities, the public areas an oasis of calm. With secure parking for the motorbike, just off the main road and a short walk to the City Centre the Riad was perfect in every way for us. Our breakfast, taken on the shaded terrace was exceptional. We would happily return and highly recommend.
