it is centrally located in Tangier. I got an upgrade when I arrived which was extremely welcomed

they labeled this as a 5 star hotel but they do indeed have the facilities for it but requires the high level service that is the epitome of being a 5 star hotel. The concierge is the worst. they are rarely helpful with friends of guests that are arriving. they are extra nosy with everything. also, the housekeeping in my floor has opened my door twice without knocking or introducing themselves.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The pool was lovely. The whole hotel was very clean. The location was excellent and I enjoyed using the gym at the El Minzah hotel. I enjoyed having no loud music at the poolside, silence allows people to relax and have conversation or read a book.

Sadly I was woken up each morning at 3am and 5am by the noise of staff setting up the courtyard for breakfast. At 1am someone dropped cutlery on the ground. The main restaurant I felt was also overpriced. The food was delicious. The shower in the bathroom is also very narrow, a large person would have more difficulty in using it as there’s not much room to move arms around when washing hair.

We have often stayed in this hotel, and its uniqueness and charm are retained. It differs from other 5-star hotels where the staff is so arrogant. This hotel is a different story; everyone was so friendly to us, and there was trust. In other hotels, they always ask us to pay before we consume the services, but here, they ask us to pay at the checkout. The breakfast was lovely, too. This time, it was a smaller selection than usual, but I loved it, as it was clear that there was less food waste and that everything served was well prepared and presented. The location is fantastic and probably the best location to stay in Tangier. Also, the room was beautiful. It is so elegant; I read some reviews saying that the furniture in the room has deteriorated, but it is not valid; this is classic, beautiful furniture, well looked after, and the decoration in the room is elegant and classic. I love this hotel.

One small point: maybe a bit more knowledge about the ingredients in the case of food allergies. Also, to explain better what is served, a vegan corner would work well in the restaurant for breakfast. The same goes for the piano bar; honestly, just some more explanation will work wonders. This is not a criticism, just a tiny piece of advice.

Location and the vibe of the hotel. Overall, this hotel takes you back to the 1930s thru 1950s when Tangier was an international city. The proximity of the hotel to many interesting spots of the city allow you to explore by foot the city.

Terrace should be used for a cafe. Right now it is this missed opportunity with a gorgeous view of the city. Also, the music in the restaurant and garden is boring and repetitive.

This hotel is in the best location! It's easily walkable to the main plaza and the old Kasbah. The petit taxis seem to all know it very well by just the name. We really loved the staff for the most part. The older gentleman checking us in at the front desk very grouchy and unpleasant but other than him, everyone was so amazing. From our housekeepers to the hotel porters to everyone who served us at breakfast, they were all so kind and approachable! Everyone seemed very fluent in English, French and Spanish. The pool is fantastic, I don't think you can get such great amenities anywhere else and still be so close to the centre. The view of the Atlantic ocean from the terraces is very lovely and on a really clear day you could probably see Spain. They had of course their own restaurant and bars but we did not use these amenities and cannot comment on them. They looked very pretty. Our room was divine. The windows opened out to a terrace which was beautiful. The bed was very large, and the seating area too. Comes with a fridge and a kettle for tea/coffee. Fantastic breakfast. Freshly made mssemen and a great selection of fruits every morning. Lots of protein as well such as eggs and sausages, harira soup, different cheeses. I literally had 3 plates every morning: one for sweet like mssemen with honey, cereals, etc; another for savoury things and lastly a big plate of fruits. We felt very spoiled for breakfast.

We found a cockroach in our bathroom, so that was unpleasant. But we just put our brave faces on and got rid of it. Not enough to ruin our stay. We often opened our windows so it could have come from the outside.

We enjoyed staying at this grand old hotel in a very central location in Tangier. The room and bathroom were spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was varied and there was an option to take it on the terrace. The wifi was reliable and the staff were helpful. The hotel organised a friendly driver to take us to the airport very early in the morning.

It was difficult to stop shower water slashing on the floor; a shower curtain would help. A pick-up at the railway station could not be arranged.

We loved the history of the Grand Hotel Villa de France, the beautiful old building, sitting on the terrace looking over the port and great location. I was very comfortable in my room and breakfast had good choice - lots of fresh fruit. My avocado mouse at dinner was beautifully presented and very tasty. I also enjoyed the sole.

Two of my friends had a problem with tough rack of lamb at dinner. This was dealt with very quickly by a member of staff so there is no outstanding complaint.

The hotel is beautiful; despite the hotel’s old age, the staff have done a wonderful job at making the hotel still feel very new. The front desk and bellhop provided excellent service during my stay. The onsite restaurant also had delicious food and drinks.

Bathroom could have been a tad bit cleaner as the marble floors and tiling had dried in water marks which indicated they may not have been thoroughly washed. Otherwise, I had a wonderful stay here.

The room was old-school but spacious and comfortable. I enjoyed the view, staff was great too. Good location near Grand Socco. There are some really good and affordable restaurants in walking distance.

Just a few minor things to improve: like many said before, the coffee machine is crap and not 5-star level. The hotel should purchase a real coffee machine. I also found it interesting that my soap got changed every day (what a waste) but not the toilet paper.

The hotel is lovely. This is my 3rd or 4th time staying there. It’s in a great position for walking to the Kasbah and medina, and opposite the English church, which is definitely worth a visit. Great views from the terrace. Mohammed showed us the room where Matisse stayed in 1912 and painted his famous picture of the English Church through the window. It still has the original telephone, furniture and light fittings.

Difficult to access a plug to charge a mobile phone. Mattress a little on the firm side but I slept well nonetheless
