Excellent Location.

Felt hot. They provided fans. In summers, it’s gets hot. We also opened windows, but noise outside too much.

I loved the Hotel Union. I stayed at the hotel for four nights and three days. I opted for a room facing the mountains and waterfalls. I am very glad that I didn't pay extra for the fjord view as my view was beautiful and I could see the fjord from the very comfortable lobby, the outdoor pool and all the restaurants. The staff was wonderful and very quickly remembered my name. The staff gave good advice about hikes and tours in the area. After a day kayaking or hiking it was so nice to come back to the hotel and relax in the outdoor heated pool, the sauna or go to the spa.

I took the ferry from Alesund to Geirangerfjord. The hotel is at the top of a very long, winding mountainous. There were six of us who got off the ferry. We each called the hotel and were told to call a taxi. There are only two taxis in Geiranger and since there was a cruise ship in port that day the taxis were all busy. After waiting for quite a while we again called the hotel and they sent a car to pick us up. The hotel should make arrangements to pick up people who arrive by ferry.

The location is really super! Beautiful views and great situated in the fjord for the activities. The staff is super friendly. The activities for the kids - from the buffet (included), where they were able to make their own ice creams, or the swimming pool, or the indoor playground and the outdoor playground. We had an issue with an item we forgot at the location and the staff went above and beyond to help us get the item back. We initially were a bit afraid of the reviews saying it was overpriced or outdated - we did not feel that at all. It was one of the most modern decorated rooms we had - i had asked for a family room with a bunk bed, but did not get that - so thought it would not be good, but it was a nice big room with enough space and opportunity to make two separate beds for the kids in the room (vs a sleeping couch). Room 502. The pool is nice with both indoor and outdoor opportunities and nice and hot and a sauna. All included in the price and long opening hours. You can also do washing (what we did) in the laundry room.

Difficult to say, if I really need to say something then it would be that the family rooms don’t have a view on the fjord (we had a view on the mountain though). And at breakfast we had always a great view on the fjord!

We had a beautiful view of the fjord from our 4th floor room. Dinner buffet was excellent, lots of choices and beautifully displayed, but pricey. Staff service throughout hotel was excellent.

Comfy beds and very quiet for sleep. It has swimming pool and a sauna next to it.

The staff in reception when I checked in was not so hospital. And my room seems to be prepared for someone else, with this price, I expect more than I got. It is not the same room when I book it, interior design was completely different. I believe they gave my room to someone else. I book a modern twin-bed room, but I got a old fashioned room with a sofa bed prepared, it definitely made me feel like they gave me someone’s room. I asked the old reception guy, he said maybe someone forgot to take that out and there is no other room for me to change. The sink was too small, we can’t even fill our water bottles and they soda the coffee machine is the “electric kettle”.

Beautifully located lower mid level of Geiranger. Has some modern and old feel to the interior and exterior of the building and has parking available for guests. Can get a room with 2 adults and 3 kids in one room, very useful and convenient. Don’t forget to check out the car museum and the old structure by the entrance and bring some swim gear. The buffet dinner (get it part of booking 1/2 board, not after) is actually pretty good and the Neapolitan Pizza is amazing, if you don’t stay here go and get this at the bar’s al carte. Finally the staff are very nice, helpful and welcoming.

Given the type and age of the design of the hotel and typical weather patterns, AC are not installed so Summer trips can be quite hot. Tip here is to get a fan from reception, open the windows wide and get the room with a view of the fjord. The laundry facilities is bad, only one washer and drying machine for the entire hotel guest and opens 7:00-22:00, if you’re planning a big road trip, this isn’t the place to easily wash a bunch of clothes.

The staff at this hotel are wonderful! Everyone I interacted with was friendly and positive. In the breakfast room, one went out of her way to help us make our daughter’s birthday a special one. The family room was fine—not very large and not set up when we arrived (just beds for two, not four) but the staff member working at the time helped remedy the situation immediately. We didn’t spend much time in the room anyway, so it was ok that it was not very spacious. We used the washing machine, which was so helpful on our long trip (it is busy, timing is everything). Sauna had a great view, pools were packed. Breakfast was delicious!

The location is absolutely breathtaking — set in the heart of the fjords, with serene views and a beautiful outdoor pool that mirrors the surrounding mountains. The breakfast was truly amazing, offering a wide variety of high-quality options, and the dinner was delicious, served in a charming dining area with attentive service. The spa facilities added a relaxing touch to the experience.

While we understand that the road closure due to a rockfall was an act of God, the way the situation was handled left a lot to be desired. After an 8-hour drive, we were unable to reach the hotel and had to turn around to find last-minute accommodation. The issue wasn’t just the lack of communication in advance — it was the complete absence of acknowledgment at check-out. The staff attempted to charge us for both nights without offering any gesture or refund until we raised the issue ourselves. Mr. Fin, the Managing Director, insisted it was not the hotel’s responsibility. Eventually, the night was refunded, but not in the spirit of professionalism or hospitality we would expect from a property of this level.

Love the spa facilities. Love the location. Love the staff they were very accommodating. Loved the two included meals.

Of course there’s no air conditioning, which is understandable given its location. However, we should probably have fans. Unfortunately, with global warming, the summers are hotter, and if you can’t circulate air, being comfortable is a challenge. We love the dinners, but we really would have preferred something different with the meals. There is no theme night like let’s do Asian food. I think you gotta get more creative to serve those individuals who are vegan or vegetarian.

It's been a long time since I gave a hotel a 10. This place has it all, in a stunningly beautiful location. Staff was very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The room was very nice and comfortable. I was on the road side, but traffic stops by late evening. The breakfast buffet was huge and high quality. I also got the dinner buffet on my day of arrival, for $88, and it was good. Great views from the restaurant. There is free parking, which is rare in Norway. Lastly, there are heated pools, one outdoors with a very large patio overlooking the fjord--a wonderful place to relax after a day of driving or hiking.

When approaching from below for the first time, it is difficult to know where the entrance is. They need a sign at the first driveway telling drivers to go up a little farther.
