The location is excellent... walking distance to town and the main attractions. Far enough not to hear the noises. The staff/volunteers are very sweet and helpful. Kitchens in both the houses is equipped with the necessary equipment. The seating area is alright and cozy Keep in mind it's a hostel in one of the most expensive countries in Europe so don't expect too much. The value for money is good. Loved the dog in the house ❤️ sweetest lil boy 🐶

The houses are old so obviously some squeaky floors. Beds could be changed and a lil maintenance is due maybe new pillows too... the gray house could also use a seating/living room area. Lockers should be added in the rooms or common areas.

For reference, I booked a private room. The location was fantastic, close to everything. The Blue House common area was great for meeting people, and the kitchen was well-equipped with utensils and a fridge. The shared bathrooms were clean. The staff were super nice !

The shared rooms experience depend on the travelers you’re with, so the experience can vary. However, you can always try ask to be placed in a female-only room if there are enough women. Also, the staff office is open during limited hours, so make sure you have all the check-in information if you arrive outside those hours, as it might be unattended.

The hostel is very central. You can walk to all of the major touristy places and easily get there on a short bus ride from the airport or a short walk from the bus station . The rooms are small but warm and cozy, and the kitchen is fully equipped. I stayed for 2 nights and had a good stay. Everything was also generally pretty clean.

The shower upstairs is incredibly tiny. The door opens inwards into the shower as opposed to outwards, meaning when you’re done with your shower and open the door, your clean body touches the door and the walls of the shower which I think is gross. Maybe there was another shower somewhere else that was bigger and nicer, but the one upstairs is way too small. It’s always way too expensive for what is offered

Because of my plane schedule, I arrived at the hostel very late. I had prepared for this and the hostel staff provided me with a way to enter the hostel easily. My room was a 2-person bedroom with a little furnace and some drawers. There were 2 kitchens - one downstairs, one upstairs - the bathroom was good and clean. Overall, it was a good experience.

The shower stall has a glass door. You had to squeeze yourself against the wall in order to shut that door. It might be an idea to replace the glass door with a shower curtain.

Excellent location, easily walkable to shops, the city centre and pick up points for tours. It's also probably the cheapest accommodation you'll find in Tromsø. The room was warm and spacious and the bed was comfy. Plus staying here is a great way to meet people. Robin and Naoko, the owners of the hostel, are really nice and quick to respond to any questions. Also highly recommend booking the Aurora tour with Robin.

It was quite expensive for a shared room but Tromsø is not a cheap place to stay!

It is well located and is right on the main road. Kitchen was well equipped and had all the necessary appliances functioning well. In my room we had only 2 beds and had plenty of space.

It is right on the main street, which meant that i could hear the road traffic all night long. Also, the grey house does not have a "common" room. Not a big issue, but it will be nice to have a some common space with comfortable chairs.

Location is perfect for exploring the centre of Tromsø - only a 5/10 min walk into town and very easy to get to from airport. The beds are comfy, towels and linen provided. There are enough bathrooms so no wait to use them. The hostel is quiet and staff SUPER friendly. I haven't stayed in a youth hostel for over 20 years so I was a little nervous - I needn't have been! It was beyond my expectations and a great find. Will stay there again if I return to the town.

There was very little I didn't like!

Parking is not great but that's not the hostels fault so much as the system is setup much differently in Europe than North America's motorway culture demands. Parking is very confusing and very expensive and fines are steep too. Europe isn't setup for parking and car culture in most urban centers understandably scsetup much more for public transportation. Tromsø is also on an island so understandably they are trying to curtail personal vehicle traffic aggressively while attempting to reduce global CO2 transmissions.

Identify parking alternatives for those with rental cars

Super close to the city center and to the harbour Easy accessible, so I was out exploring and came to rest a bit in the common area (not big though) but it was possible as it is close. They have cutlery in the kitchen if you need something to cook or prepare for yourself. I loved that check-out is at noon so I was able to roam around in the morning and then go grab my bags to leave to the airport.

There are round stairs that take you up to your room, so if you have problems in your legs and can't climb stairs, it's better to ask if there is a ground floor room. It was a bit challenging for me to bring up and down my bags on the stairs. For the value of the money paid, I think a snack(on breakfast) would be nice.

I loved their dog Burger, who greats everyone at the door and is friendly and loving and makes everyone feel like they are home. I like that there is an upstairs and downstairs kitchen and a place to do work in an office. It was such a friendly atmosphere that several of the guests got together to cook and eat and chat together in the downstairs common area. People washed dishes together and it had a great friendly traveler's energy. I felt safe and welcomed. And I made friends. It's also walking distance from all the main attractions, stores, the shopping center, museums, food, and touristy areas, and the harbor. Excellent location if you don't really know your way around but far enough from the central shopping area that you can have a restful sleep if you are traveling overseas. I went for the northern lights but that's all about luck and timing and even though that part of the trip didn't work out, I made great memories.

I think the common area downstairs where people sit could be a little bit more comfortable. Especially since check-in isn't until 4pm. There isn't a place to lock up the luggage for when people go out, but you can leave luggage under the staircase. This made me a little concerned about going out for too long because I didn't know the vibe of the place yet. It takes me a little bit to warm up to people and places from my own life experiences, so I like being able to lock things up in a closet or in a room. But once I understood the overall feel of the place I felt comfortable leaving my things under the stairwell during check out.
