I will always recommend this hotel! It exceed our expectations. It had everything a luxury hotel would have: big, spacious and modern bedrooms and bathrooms, high quality restaurant for breakfast and dinner, convinient location 1 step from the train, ammenities and garden, and great staff! They were able to accomodate all our requests, took care of our lugage, gave us local recommnedations and prepared breakfast boxes for early birds. Also, we read that it could be noisy being next to the train, but the last train leaves at 9 o'clock and the first at 5 o'clock, and from our room in the courtyard we heard nothing. The hotel also offered tasting tours of their local liquor and have a restaurant in the main square. Amazing quality/price!

I liked almost everything, especially the staff. I was treated like royalty by everyone. The food was excellent, especially the breakfast. While I had to walk ten minutes to town, I had a wonderful path to take me there, avoiding all traffic and noise.

There were two things I believe they could improve. The music in the dining room was too loud. The real problem for me was the fact that they advertised on their website that if someone stays three days consecutively, they are entitled to a complimentary Pachamanca meal. They did not honor this because I made my reservations on Booking.com. I would not have even known about the hotel had I not found them on Booking.com. I felt this was unworthy of their establishment to deny me this, especially since I stayed 5 days and ate only in both of their restaurants.

There were problems with the room, (below), but overall it was great, especially the hotel grounds. You'd think it would be noisy, being at a train station, but it wasn't and it was very quiet at night. We had stayed there before in a bigger, brighter and more comfortable room. And a much, much nicer bathroom. The ambiance is what makes this an exceptional place, but I wish it wasn't so expensive, especially for the room we got this time. Great breakfasts as well as all the food.

The room #5 was small but comfortable. Knowing there were much nicer rooms available made this room less enjoyable especially since we paid much less 2 years earlier, for a far superior room. Better lighting would help. The bathroom is in need of a complete overhaul. It's too tight, the sink too small, the faucet seemed broken. The shower wouldn't stay warm.

We stayed at this hotel on our way back from a long day of traveling to Machu Picchu. This hotel is at the train station so when we arrived from Cusco, we took our luggage to the hotel and they kept it for us until we came back that evening. The room and grounds of this hotel are spectacular! The room was so spacious and clean. There are beautiful flowers everywhere. The breakfast, that is included in the price of the room, was delicious. The staff were so helpful and friendly. I initially hesitated booking this hotel because I was concerned about the noise from the trains but we honestly heard very little from the trains or the people at the station. I think the thick vegetation surrounding the hotel helped with the noise and, of course, sleeping at night the trains are not operating so it was a peaceful sleep. We would definitely stay here again!

We loved everything about this hotel but if I had to choose something that may have improved our stay it would be that there was no television in the room.

The property was perfectly located just steps from the train station—such a relief after a long travel day to Machu Picchu. The staff was incredibly friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us, even upgrading our room to a casita when a friend traveling with us needed a place to stay last-minute. The grounds felt like a hidden garden oasis nestled in the mountains, with charming touches like a hammock and a eucalyptus sauna that made the experience feel special. The onsite restaurant and coffee shop were fantastic, and we’re so glad we booked the Pachamanca lunch before we left. It included a tour of the gardens and distillery, plus insights into the local culture and history. The meal itself was fresh, flavorful, and memorable—not to mention we met some amazing fellow travelers. All in all, our stay at El Albergue was truly magical, and we hope to return one day to this hidden gem. P.S. If you get a chance, I highly recommend a visit to the Alqa Museum in Ollantaytambo. It's a beautiful space with a ton of culture and they also serve wine, tea, and local traditional cuisine. You won't regret it!

Had I known how much we would love El Albergue and the small town of Ollantaytambo, I would have booked our stay for at least a few days longer. The property is so relaxing, and the town of Ollantaytambo is charming as well, so my only complaint is that we didn't stay longer and had to rush our final day to continue our itinerary.

It is a lovely charming quirky property and if you get the right room/s the noise or smell of the trains when they stop on their journeys to Machu Picchu shouldn’t bother most people. The staff are very friendly and very helpful too. Lovely garden/s and no 18 is quiet with lovely views. And only 2soles (50p )tuk-tuk ride 5mins upto the charming main square - and 10 mins walk back down.

Personally, however, it does feel significantly overpriced for what it is - and I wonder whether it is living on its reputation rather than working out more pro-active to enhance the customer experience experience - eg as a tiny example: actively offer a breakfast box for early trips and just look at what other hotels in this price bracket offer to make people feel special.

The property is unique. Firstly it’s the building of the old train station. Secondly the owner has created many opportunities for the locals to learn new skills through their on site coffee roastery and the distillery. The hotel has been renovated sympathetically. It is comfortable but with all the modern conveniences. I even tried out the wood fired sauna which was a lovely experience. Best of all are the staff. They are so friendly and helpful. I was stuck organising our Machu Picchu tickets it’s very complicated. Helen came to our rescue and totally took the stress out of our visit and organised everything for us (bus tickets, train tickets, an extremely good guide and the all important Machu Picchu tickets). I can’t thank them enough for making our stay something I will treasure forever.

A very good hotel for one or two nights when visiting Machu Picchu. Location in Ollantaytambo is the best, right at the platform for the trains to and from Machu Picchu, very convenient. We stayed here two nights, before and after visiting Machu Picchu and we liked it a lot. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Nice restaurant with good food. Breakfast offers everything you need.

As the hotel is located next to the trains, you can here the trains honking. Mainly during the day and evening. Prepare yourself with ear plugs and there is no problem. The location of the hotel and all other positive aspects of this hotel, compensate this little noice.

I thought that Ollantaytambo would be all backpacker hostals. It wasn't, and this place surprised me. Right next to the trains, perfect to escape the plaza's hustle. Good food, super friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Our bathroom was tight, and I mean tight! It comes with classic, restored architecture, I guess. Its best feature—located next to the train tracks for quick getaways to either Cuzco or Aguas Calientes—is also its greatest flaw: Noisy trains wake you up early! It says a lot about the place that they include complimentary, good-quality earplugs in the room!

What a beautiful hotel! We loved our rooms - rustic with a hint of luxury - and the gardens that surround each building. The location at the train station meant dealing with some noise but it was very convenient for catching the train to and from Machu Picchu. We stayed for the pachamanca lunch after checking out - a really special meal in a beautiful farm setting. Highly recommend all of it!

The smoke alarm in my room was beeping late one night and the person at the reception desk couldn't seem to do anything about it. The hotel needs to have someone there who can handle minor situations like changing a smoke alarm battery.
