Fabulous, historic castle hotel. Large, comfortable, tastefully decorated and furnished rooms. Huge and comfortable bed. Fabulous pool and beautiful garden, we also found extra lounges and a games room too. Really nice, traditional town. Friendly reception staff. Excellent breakfast. It's really worth staying here.

We weren't impressed by the restaurant. The setting is beautiful but it's 'fine dining', and so we were served very small portions for dinner and we were hungry afterwards. The food (dinner) was not impressive either. We had a really nice evening meal at a local restaurant in the town, we would recommend doing this instead.

Such a charming historic setting for a short stay. We loved the towering ceiling and stone-framed 16th-century window and castle walls of our room overlooking pool and garden. Plenty of lounging rooms on the ground floor and a breakfast room with vaulted stone ceilings. It's a small, picturesque village but there are other cafes and restaurants a short walk away. And the staff were super helpful. Eduardo even helped my husband sort out how to open the fuel tank on our rental car.

Any imperfections were forgotten due to the atmospheric setting.

The Receptionist was lovely. Most helpful in discussing many general things including identifying the local industry and life in Portugal. Location offers free parking close to entrance. Elevator available to room levels. The bedroom was MOST LOVELY, bedding amazing comfort. Period furnishings, wall decor and opererable windows with period encasements. Felt like a princess. Did not take opportunity but viewed lovely period gardens and pool.

Visiting off season so guests were limited. Always like to meet/greet other travelers.

Since we were the only people staying in the castle the first night, they prepared us individual breakfasts that were delicious. We ate at the breakfast buffet the second morning. There were many food options and everything was delicious. We enjoyed dinner at the property both nights.

The property is far from other options for food or drinks. The air conditioner didn't keep the room cold and the intense smell of the olive oil plant at night made it difficult to sleep with the windows open.

The AC system was not working. After a day spent between 35 and 42 ° centigrade, it was tough. We arrived late (23h00) and they alerted us to the problem but they said they would put an “air column” in the room. We assumed it was a portable AC system. It was not. It was only a ventilator that blew hot air in our face. The next morning, when I complained about the fact, the receptionist was very rude sticking to “You were told there was a problem with the AC”. In fact I was. On arrival. At 23h00. But I had booked an AC room through Booking! The personnel was polite, with the exception of the mentioned receptionist.

What a lovely surprise this was - staying in a castle on the last night of a long road trip. Our room overlooked the courtyard with big windows which let in plenty of sunlight. There was plenty of storage and beds were comfy, we had a good sleep. The bathroom was a little dark but everything you need is in there and the shower is really good - powerful with plenty of hot water. The aircon in the room was the best we've ever had! Very efficient and a real good plus point - it doesn't switch off when you take your room key out of the slot, so room is nice and cool when you return. We had a meal in the restaurant, a good choice on the menu and not over expensive. Very good wine list too. We had a problem with our dates and needed to amend them last minute, I emailed the hotel early on the day before we were due to arrive and asked if we could come a day early. The problem was dealt with very quickly and when we arrived later in the day the receptionist was expecting us - very impressed :D Alvito looks like a really interesting village and we were disappointed that we only stayed one night so didn't have time to explore. Have booked to return next month for a longer visit.

The location was central with parking. The staff were helpful and friendly. The pool was lovely. The room was comfortable but the bed rather hard. Also one of the seats in the bedroom was hard, although the style fitting for a castle. The breakfast was good, but lacked tomatoes and cucumber. Overall this was a fabulous place to stay.

It was a real castle! Being able to walk around and explore the grounds was fun. I liked that the decor in the room seemed to match the whole castle thing

I hate to say this but honestly the "BBQ buffet" that was served in the restaurant the night we arrived was nearly inedible. Almost all the dish options were truly terrible - it was a bit of a shock that almost everything was so poorly cooked. Sausages were sliced then cooked until hard as rocks - nearly all the meats were very overcooked and tough to chew. The "pesto pasta" dish was cold spaghetti with some dried basil shaken over it. The chocolate mousse was liquid and the other dessert (a meringue I think?) tasted like nothing. Literally like air - no flavor at all. But staff were kind so maybe just the kitchen needs some work!

love the breakfast options especially the fresh squeezed OJ. everything was fresh and delicious. Room was comfortable and clean. i love baths so i welcomed the bathtub ! Grounds were great and the pool was perfect on a hot day. loved the orange trees. Accompdations surpassed my expectations!! place would be Ideal for a small intimate wedding or special occasion!!

the only recommendation would be to add flowers ( even wildflowers ) to the grounds and entrance!

The property located in an old castle with nice and green courtyard. Absolutely amazing experience staying in the castle.

We booked a dinner at their restaurant for our anniversary. And when we came, it was a buffet with very oily, poorly cooked meat, halfway cooked potatoes, etc. We were disappointed. It’s better to eat somewhere else.
