You want to visit the Coimbra area but not stay in the city? This is the place for you. A pretty, small town retreat where the hosts, Herman and Luc, raise the bar very high for other B&B hosts (anywhere) to try and emulate. You receive a warm greeting upon arrival and they remain impeccable hosts for the entire stay. The pool, the gardens, the renovated rooms, the spacious common room, the breakfast, the gorgeous hilly scenery are outstanding. Eight to ten minute stroll to restaurants in Góis. Herman and Luc take tremendous care in making certain that everything at their place is of the highest standard and that your visit is the best it can be. Highly recommended this place. If there were 11’s, they’d get it.

What a find! Casa Carvalhal is an amazing property that is maintained to a very high standard by the owners. Our room and the ensuite were very spacious, spotlessly clean and the bed was so comfortable. Having a separate dressing room was a real bonus. The attention to detail in the rooms is exceptional. Our room had a terrace with chairs & sunloungers and it was lovely to relax outside with a book and enjoy the sun. We have visited many places and can honestly say this is definitely one of the best. The breakfast was incredible and very healthy with the majority of the food being homemade e.g. yogurt, marmalade, freshly squeezed orange juice and granola - being given a bag to take pastries, bread etc with us was a lovely touch. Herman and Luc are fantastic hosts, who clearly have a passion for what they do - they were both more than happy to help us with ideas of things to do in the area. There is plenty of parking and the property is very secure and the locked gate can only be accessed by guests. We would have no hesitation in recommending Casa Carvalhal if you are visiting Gois or the surrounding area

Having to leave! Absolutely nothing - it was perfect!

Everything was amazing! The hosts were impeccable, amazing chefs and always ready to assist us with everything we needed. The room (and the whole house) was always clean, smelling fresh and just felt really welcoming! Breakfast was one of our favourite parts. Luc and Herman were always around to make sure our bellies were happy with all the homemade products and tasty pastries :) The pool was really warm and super clean at all times, which combined with all the other things, shows how much good care the hosts have with the house!

Gorgeous, superbly maintained property. This accommodation is a labour of love in every detail by its owners. The beds were very comfortable and made up every day…lovely views out of every window, all fixtures new and work well. The pool is a such a bonus to return to after a hot day of hiking. The breakfasts were superb: fresh squeezed orange juice and a very large assortment of pastries as well as bacon and eggs cooked to order.

The property is always locked up. You need to call the hosts via what’s app to get in… can be inconvenient if your group splits up. We wished the gate was left open during the day.

We have been travelling independently worldwide for nearly 60 years and this is one of the very best places where we have ever stayed. Herman and Luc could not have been kinder and more attentive without ever being intrusive. Their breakfasts were delicious and very healthy. Everything about the bedroom was good, the bed, the ensuite, etc. They even had a small blue light in the bathroom so you could find your way in the dark. Very few other hosts pay this sort of attention to detail. When we talked about where we would like to go they were happy to provide us with advice and maps.

Do not hesitate to book this beautiful place! Herman and Luc are absolutely fantastic hosts and are so accommodating and friendly. We really felt at home and everything was terrific…from the homemade breakfast to the heated pool to the immaculate rooms. The Location is gorgeous and there are some amazing local restaurants. The guide to the area that they have personalized is very special and unique! They have put in a lot of work to the property and the experience and it really shows. The bed is also the comfiest we have come across throughout Portugal. We only stayed 2 nights, but if you can stay longer, there is so much to see and experience, but you can also just power down and relax as well. Thank you casa carvalhal!

Nothing! Everything was fantastic

Immaculate! Beautiful garden. Loved our individual patio area with comfortable seating as well as sun beds. Make good use of the pool. The whole place was quiet, calm and relaxing. Breakfast was tasty, including local and home made produce. The paper bag to take our uneaten bread/pastries was a really nice touch, as was the bath robes in the bedroom.

Nothing about the property but we timed our visit with the annual Gois motorcycle gathering - noisy and busy!

Most of the breakfast is homemade and baked on the spot which makes it extra tasty and fresh. We stayed during the summer time so we could have our breakfast on the outside terrace which makes it even more pleasant. The hostesses are extremely friendly and you can see they are prowed on the house they've built and the service they provide to the guests. The house has a lot of modern commodities which makes entering and leaving really easy. The swimming pool is amazing

Excellent choices at breakfast. Location very quiet and peaceful. Cleanliness and upkeep very good. The hosts were charming, informative and helpful.

Removing occasional smell from drains. Fixing bathroom window so it didn't bang shut. Fixing the shower soap dispenser.

The property is beautiful and the hosts are very welcoming and friendly. Our connected rooms were very big and fresh in spite of the warm days outside and the warm pool was a very big bonus for us, the kids loved it! :) Breakfast was lovely with fresh products and always some extras from the hosts. Casa Carvalhal is the perfect spot to relax and to use as a base to visit the beautiful centre of Portugal. Not far you have river beaches and many other attractions. We can definitely recommend this accommodation! :)
