We absolutely loved our stay at Alva ❤️This is more like a 4/5 star hotel. You get a lot for the current price! We started off with a room upgrade including a king size bed and a huge terrace. The rooms were spotless and extremely clean. The cleaning ladies came everyday. Loved the location as well, we came with a car so having a free parking spot included was super useful! The breakfast is amazing! They serve you your individual charcuterie board, all products are of high quality and it was more than enough. We couldn’t finish all of it! I love that they ensure that all products are sustainable and of high quality! The best of all are definitely the people that work there. We had very nice chats with Javier, the manager and the receptionist. We felt at home at the very first day ❤️ Thank you and we will be back soon! 🔙

It was an amazing experience! The room had a mountain view, the staff was incredibly caring, everything was modern and clean. They treated us like we were their dear friends or relatives, I was so happy to be in that atmosphere, it felt like home. I got there with my son after some stressful weeks and needed to reset my system. The holiday in that hotel, amid the breathtakingly beautiful nature, gave me more than I expected. A few days of rest felt like a proper vacation! Right by the hotel there are two medieval bridges (the first one is right in front of the hotel, and the second one is in 10 minutes of walking down the river; you can ask the staff to show you the direction). In about 40 minutes of driving there’s a must see village called Piódão. The whole area is covered with mountains, it sounds like birds and smells like eucalyptus. If you drive around, you can discover all those charming old villages which show you a new side of Portugal — a fairy-tale-looking one. However, be careful on those serpentine mountain roads. Normally, I love going to different European capitals, visiting museums, and looking at the architecture. But this lovely place and exuberant nature absolutely took my heart. I really want to go back there one day.

Stuff is very friendly and with our pets it was really comfortable and pleasant. Room is clean and dry and warm and cosy.

The location was unusual but very nice, beautiful scenery on arriving. The hotel was very welcoming, it’s spotless and everything was perfect for us and our little schnauzer. He had his own bed ready with biscuits of course. Javier and Ines the owners were amazing, the food we had in the evening was amazing with a great choice of wines. The breakfast laid out for us was stunning, we both enjoyed. We would certainly return without a doubt. Thankyou.

If you like a quiet location and being looked after then there is absolutely nothing to dislike at all.

what can I say but this place is so lovely. a small hotel that the amazing manager Javier is making a great effort to bring life and vitality to. The room we had - a standard balcony twin was spotless and the beds very comfortable. the location was perfect for easy river side walks nearby and for visiting towns and river beaches in the local area. if you are looking for a lovely breakfast with attentive and caring staff then this is the place and they also have a very up market restaurant which has an excellent looking menu although we did not try the evening meals.

We loved our little holiday at Alva Valley Hotel. Staff was very kind and very attentive. We loved the bedroom and very spacious and the location was perfect to discover the area of Serra Da Estrella. Breakfast was an excellent too! We would definitely come back to stay here again!

We have stayed at this hotel many times. It is the only hotel we stay at when we drive through this area. This is such an upscale boutique hotel at an extremely reasonable cost, in a quiet, scenic river setting. The rooms and beds are comfortable and 5 star. We love that even as upscale as this hotel is, they are dog friendly! The balconies are beautiful..I highly recommend the deluxe balcony. The breakfast is amazing, fresh fruits, fresh orange juice, delicious homebaked pastries. The best part of the hotel is the staff. The personal attention they give the guests is another main reason why we keep coming back.

Javier is very friendly and helpful. He takes a great deal of pride and care in his hotel. Paula and Paula were also very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and was especially good because of the top quality fresh and local produce that was used. Paula squeezed fresh orange juice for us and offered to prepare more if we wanted some. The eggs are free range and are prepared as you want them. The bread and croissants were perfect! Dinner was very good.

The bed was a little too firm for my husband, but this is a personal preference.

The breakfast is incredible - by far one of the best we have ever encountered. It's served at the table, once you are seated, and it has all the staples of a continetnal breakfast plus a few extras which really make a difference, namely a few sweets and savoury treats made right there. The friendliness and politeness of the staff also left a mark, as they were so welcoming and warm. The room itself is nice and comfortable - but the breakfast experience really made a difference. The ladies even offered us some cookies for the road as we were checking out!

The access to the hotel is not the best, as Google Maps can take you there via a very steep and narrow street which is truly awful to drive through. There is a longer way around, which we would definitely recommend. This is not the hotel's fault naturally, but it hurt the experience somewhat.

The service of Paula was perfect, she is a very sweet and proactive person! Paula even helped us to solve a personal problem! Breakfast was delicious, bed was big and comfortable and very clean room! It was a warm day and the air conditioning worked very well and it’s a silent machine.

A lot of curves to get to the hotel. If you’re not a fan, take the route of Avô, the village next to it.
