The property is so beautiful - surrounded by fruit trees, turtles in the pond, grape vines growing overhead. It’s absolute paradise - lots of places to read a book or drink a coffee without any disturbance apart from the sound of birds. The swimming pool is great! The children were in it for a couple of hours at least every day. It’s next door to a big supermarket and there’s another one over the road. It’s a 5m drive to town, 10m to the beach and a good breeze from the coast. When we stayed there was a heatwave across Portugal but our temps stayed mid-late 20s. Cleaners are in every day and make the beds, change towels etc, and the owner is lovely and on hand every breakfast to answer questions and give tips about the local area. We just loved it - so peaceful and delightful for the children to run about and enjoy the pool. Check in was from 12 which was very handy after an early flight.

There’s not much! We couldn’t find public transport links to the beach (but didn’t look that hard!). There isn’t any air con or fans - we coped but it got a bit sweaty some nights. You could probably ask for one (we didn’t). There isn’t an oven - but does have a hob.

Everything! João was a brilliant host and was incredibly helpful in the lead up to our trip, and whilst we were there. The rooms and whole of the property were lovely. Delicious breakfast every morning with fresh fruit and pastries. Very close to Viana do Castelo and literally next door to two supermarkets but the hotel felt like your own private oasis. The pool was lovely and refreshing. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The only thing I can possibly think of is that the entrance didn’t show properly on Google maps so took a few attempts to find it, and it was very tricky to get in and out of the driveway, but after a few attempts we were pros!

Location very convenient, very nice grounds with lots of areas to relax, stroll and sit outside in sun or shade. Our room - we had outside tables across from our door to sit and eat under a vine covered terrace and indoor eating and seating. There is a compact kitchenette. All as described.The staff were all friendly and the key people very helpful and understanding. Lovely breakfasts, very healthy and fresh with huge changing variety of fruits, cheeses, preserves and meats. These were served in a very simply elegant room with terrace and garden/pool view, lovely table settings and well spaced out. A great start to the day. Easy check in and out with car parking on site

Gorgeous estate with little nooks/tables outside to relax. Well maintained, beautiful plants and landscaping. Friendly, mostly English speaking staff. The room had everything you needed. Liked the cleverly built kitchenette to make the most of a small space, bottled water on arrival also a nice touch. Breakfast was superb. Wide variety of continental breakfast items, great selection of fresh fruit. Especially loved the freshly squeezed orange juice from their orchard oranges. Towels are provided but you need to ask for extra ones to use in the pool. They were kind enough to give us extra towels but not sure if this is a regular occurrence! Wonderful place to stay in when visiting Viana do Castelo, felt like lord and lady of a manor!

Kitchen is quite well stocked but perhaps some oil would be helpful.

Casa do Ameal is an historical Portuguese quinta, quietly set now on a large estate, behind stone walls, and convenient to stores like Pingo Doce and Continente. Easily walkable to the historic center, but perfect if you have a car with easy parking on site. My spouse and I enjoyed breakfast there each of our 4 days. The breads and pastries were real deal, beautiful fruit, cheeses and I think some things can be special requested. João, the innkeeper, is so kind and helpful. A great way to start a day in historic and charming Viana do Castelo and the lush and green Alto Minho.

Casa do Ameal is absolutely gorgeous, the host was friendly and helpful with wonderful suggestions of local restaurants and made us feel at home. Some highlights were the swimming pool, the breakfast room, the variety of food on offer at breakfast, and the wonderful scenery. We loved the many places you can see in the sunshine while reading a book surrounded by beautiful nature. Having two supermarkets so close by was also handy.

The only thing that would improve our wonderful stay would be having a fan in the room as sleeping at night during the summer heat was pretty uncomfortable.

Located just 20-25mins walk from Viana do Castelo, this hotel offered us everything we needed for a lovely family summer holiday. All the staff were super nice, our room was delightful and extremely well cleaned every morning. The breakfast was freshly prepared everyday, contenting lots of local produce(some they grow on site). We would definitely stay here again.

We had an excellent 2 weeks family stay at this property. We liked it a lot and everything was perfect. We enjoyed a lot the whole property with the big garden, swimming pool and our apartment was very nice. Joao was very helpful with all the information about Viana and around. And his team was always very kind and the appartement cleaned every day. The breakfast was excellent. The location was very good as well and the big plus is a supermarket just across the street.

Casa de Ameal was an oasis in the suburbs of Viana do Castelo. It was a 20 minute walk into the centre of town. João made us very welcome and ensured that we had had everything we needed. The buffet breakfast was particularly good with a wide range of fruits, meats, cheeses and cakes with fresh orange juice and plentiful coffee.

Our recent stay was extraordinary! We were greeted with warmth and professionalism by the attentive owner of the estate, who went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. The staff was extremly friendly and helpful, the rooms were perfect, the pool beautiful situated in the park like environment with orange and citrus trees. Breakfast was delicious. Location-wise it is ideally suited, a quiet place conveniently close to the center of the town and the local beaches. A perfect combination of luxury, comfort and service.
