A really unique setting within the walls of a little oasis in Valenciennes. The room was spotless and very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and was served in the conservatory/orangery. The property is within a few minutes walk of an amazing selection of restaurants and cafes - we were spoiled for choice.

There was nothing not to like!

The room was lovely. Air conditioning was very welcomed. Fridge in the room. There is a small amount of parking at the hotel, and loads of street parking (7€ for 12 hours). A short walk to the main centre. Check in isn't until 5.30 but they did allow is to check in 1 hour early.

Staff were polite but not overly friendly. Some background music whilst eating breakfast would have softened the atmosphere. Breakfast basic.

As there were no other guests is seemed a bit soulless. Difficult to get information regarding local restaurants. Seemed a bit strange with drying laundry hanging on the balustrade during evening. Were told there was no parking available but after paying for overnight public parking discovered there was space on site for several vehicles

I love staying at Maison Mathilde - it is always my first choice when I visit Valenciennes! Nothing equals the peace and tranquility of the beautiful enclosed garden - the only sound is of birdsong. Centrally located in the historic area of town, walks are always full of interest!

Maison Mathilde is in the class of fine boutique hotels, but is a B&B. The breakfast is excellent, the rooms exceed any expectation. We had one called "Jeff", forty square meters with a tub, nice shower and good furniture. King size bed with a perfect mattress. With a free-standing tub in the room itself (no separate bathroom), of course you have to be good friends to share the room with someone, but it is a cool decor. The house is an old mansion with a big park right outside the large breakfast room and lobby.

Actually we almost gave up on finding Maison Mathilde and lodge somewhere else. Because of roadwork, the gps couldn't lead us to the right address, and it was really difficult to find. I think Maison Mathilde might improve the service by informing arriving guests about that and make sure they can actually find their way to this truly wonderful B&R

Maison Mathilde is a pearl in the city of Valenciennes. It is an oase of peace, tranquility and luxury in this old North-France city. A major asset to the hotel is Mme Ludivine, who takes care of reception, welcoming, breakfast. Her spirit breaths Maison Mathilde. The overall decoration of the shared functions and the private rooms are beautifully, contemporary designed. We felt very welcome, safe and at home, far away from home.

I can't find anything to improve. The only minor comment would be to have a more flexible check-in time, as now it is limited from 17:30 to 19:30, but again that's not a big deal at all.

Maison Mathilde is nicely restored in a modern yet rustic look. The room was comfortable and clean with all needed facilities. The breakfast was excellent and plenty. Coffee and omelet made freshly for us. Pastry and bread was of a high quality. I recommend Maison Mathilde highly.

Absolutely amazing breakfast with self-made omelette, orange juice and much more. Really lovely landlady with a knack for customer service.

Overhead rain shower needed repair, and milk and spoon in room would have been nice to go with the coffee.
