Breakfast was very good, staff friendly and the atmosphere was very good not loud so you could talk easily

Unfortunately due to the weather the rooms were very hot, reaching 29 / 30c, although a fan was supplied this only pushed hot air round so very difficult to sleep. My room only had a small window which was up high with a very light coloured blind which allowed the light in early in the morning making the room bright. due to the hight I could not find out if the window opened until the second day when one of the cleaners showed me the button which was no where near the window. The rooms could do with air conditioning units,

Good-sized recently renovated room in town-centre hotel, just a few steps from the river/bridge, and from shops, etc. V clean, with good wifi, and I liked having a bath and a selection of teas.

The downside of the room I had was that there was no window, just a skylight which was unreachable, and so couldn't be opened. This meant the room was hot and airless during the evening, and I had to keep the door open to provide some fresh(-ish) air. Fortunately, the heat subsided once the sun went down, so the night was ok. The photos on booking.com showed a window, which is misleading. The description should specify that there is none. This spoilt what was otherwise a very nice place.

We had a lovely time at The Golden Lion. The staff are so warm and welcoming. The breakfast was great as they provide waitress service for hot food and the rest is buffet, which is ideal. And the room was clean and modern. The hotel itself is very classy-looking too.

The shower did not have a moveable head, and the water spurted in different directions? The bath was a great addition and was P-shaped,but when it was draining, the plug hole wouldn't open? When we mentioned it to reception, they were very apologetic and said they will look into it.

We come to St Ives all the while, but this is the first time we’ve stayed in The Golden Lion after years of saying we wanted to. Great location , gorgeous hotel. Lovely staff. We use the local pub here and the Indian restaurant. So lovely to know we can go out to eat and drink and then have the comfort of the hotel at the end of the night

The room was beautiful, but I struggled with the window not opening much. We were room 15. I suffer a bit in small places. What could’ve made it better was if I’d have been able to open the roof blind a bit more to not feel so enclosed but it stayed covering the window. This was my only negative point.

Check in was easy and everything fully explained from breakfast, keys to use for the doors late at night, staff available to us later and that they can make an area for us to sit with the dog for breakfast . We stay lots of places with our dog and it can be difficult but this was an easy and welcoming place to bring our fur baby Milo. The breakfast was lovely and staff friendly and attentive. Very pleased and will definitely be back with our dog.

Nothing we was very happy with our stay

Bed extremely comfortable and good sized room. Shower and bath good. Rooms well appointed. Staff excellent: one of our party fell over and staff kind and efficient calling ambulance and providing initial care. Food good and preordering for our large group dinner effective. Nice food and service good. Never felt rushed and able to sit and talk at the table after eating.

Be aware that noise from events in the ground floor rooms travels through to the first floor rooms very effectively! Piano player (very good, but…..) on a Saturday evening was scheduled to finish at 22:30 but still playing until 23:17, and party/disco in back room lasted past midnight followed by noisy departures by taxi. Hotel very apologetic and not their fault as such, but check if you need your sleep or want to chat easily in the restaurant. Mind the steps! Last one on main flight is deeper than the others and can cause stumbles. No car park on site a little inconvenient, but short walk to one of three town car parks okay and you can drop off outside the hotel.

Excellent location for St Ives and its great hospitality and close to Cambridge with bus stop a few hundred yards away. Rooms were very clean and well appointed. Bar and restaurant very good. Great breakfast. Brilliant staff.

Shower not great and not walk in. Toilet didn’t flush very well but the thing that blew my mind was there was no window. Never stayed anywhere without a window! Took a bit of getting used to. Fans were provided but rooms a bit stuffy for an August stay. Bar closed very early. Dave the night porter was great and helped with drinks despite not being bar staff.

The space was splendid and the the bed was really comfortable with a firm mattress. Tea and coffee making facilities were good with a good choice of teas. The bathroom was clean and spacious and the kickboard lights under the basin were convenient for night-time. The oil heater in the room was useful one chilly evening in view of the radiators being turned off (our stay was during May).

The sound insulation was poor, so that we could hear the radio/TV go on in the room below, the street noise outside, especially when the market set up early in the morning and the pigeons roosting on the bars outside the windows. The room was chilly at times and the supplementary oil heater had to be plugged in to provide an adequate temperature for the evening in the room.

Lovely meld of period property and modern comforts. Our rooms were on the small side but comfortable, absolutely fine for a one night stopover. We ate in the restaurant, the food was a little slow to arrive after ordering but they state everything is cooked fresh, and it was delicious. Breakfast good too. Shower was powerful enough to wash my thick curly hair (which often is not the case in hotels). We would definitely stay again.

Lack of parking I guess, but there are free disabled spaces directly at the front on the market place so wasn’t a problem for us with a blue badge

Lovely hotel, nicely decorated with very clean and comfortable rooms. We had a meal at the hotel which was delicious. All the staff were very friendly.

We had breakfast at the hotel. There was only one lady on duty, (who was very friendly) she was serving breakfast, clearing tables and checking people out on the reception desk. The table we were given was very cramped and we asked if we could move to another table as there were lots of other tables and was told these were reserved. We had a long wait and during the time we were having breakfast no one sat at the reserved tables. Eventually the manager, who apparently was also on duty, came to help out.
