We had a lovely room-a converted outhouse, comfortable and stylish. Perfectly clean.

Miles from anywhere. Narrow country lanes with very high hedges to negotiate to get there. Oddly unwelcoming attitude on checking in, a feeling of being ‘told off’ for not having made a dinner reservation despite our not knowing whether we wanted to make one then being told we could either eat at 6 or 8.30 and we had to choose which.

This was a gorgeous hotel with very friendly and efficient staff who couldn’t have been more helpful. I was on my own but I had to leave a bit early in the morning and they arranged for me to have an earlier breakfast. The decor was really lovely and it had a cosy feel. The bedroom was very comfortable as was the bed. The food was fabulous as was the whole dining experience which felt very personalised.

The staff, the location, the attention to detail. And of course, the food. The chocolate and banana dessert was among the most exciting puds we had ever tasted. Downton is simply one of the most enjoyable and most relaxing places to stay. This was our second visit in five years and if anything it has got even better in that time.

Such a calm and relaxing place in an incredible setting. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the attention to detail was very impressive. Breakfast was amazing and only surpassed by the evening meal we had there on our last night. Can’t wait to go back.

I wouldn’t change a thing.

Fantastic renovated barns and granary with an excellent restaurant and rooms. Brilliant for those who would like a few days away in a remote part of the Shropshire countryside, but near enough to travel to the many historic towns and attractions.

We loved the location. So peaceful. We loved the bathroom and the room.

The bed wasn’t very comfortable and we didn’t get great nights sleep. Also I was disappointed that they wouldn’t put the fire on in the bar area even though it was cold

The location was lovely, the food excellent and the knowledge of the wine and food pairing was outstanding, really enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend it to friends for a get away destination venue.

We unfortunately picked one of the hottest weekends and our room was very warm despite having a fan, but we completely understand that the nature of the being there is very little you can do in these circumstantces.

A perfect stay in a romantic setting and a beautiful and peaceful location. The staff were attentive, helpful and professional. The evening meals in the restaurant, were more than worthy of the awards they have been given.

We'd have to think too hard to come up with anything.

Have stayed here a few times, lovely ambience, relaxing, the staff are all so helpful, friendly and polite. The food in the restaurant was excellent. Ideal to start a country walk from the Old Downtown Lodge. Highly recommended.

Everything about Old Downton Lodge was exceptional. The room was spacious and very comfortable, the staff were all delightful, and the food was fantastic. We stayed for five nights and the kitchen never missed a trick, each meal was a masterpiece. We will certainly go back.

Perhaps the weather on day 3, but you can't have it all.
