I always stay at the hotel, but normally in the older part (which was being refurbished this time). It's central and easy to get to places.

I stayed in the new side this time. The room was smaller than previously & overlooked the carpark & main road, which was noisy (especially Saturday night when there was a function & people standing under my window for an hour chatting). Also because if the function people were slamming doors & 'running' up and down the corridor until 3.30am. The bathroom was clean & modern, but as a woman I don't want to wash my hair everyday but the shower only had a large moon shower fitting which couldn't be positioned and it was impossible to avoid the water. One minor point, the bed only had a winter weight duvet & no top sheet, it was extremely hot week in June.

Disliked · Breakfast was good but I was confused as the menu stated Kippers and also Smoked salmon but when I asked I was told that only applied if there were 20 or more guests for breakfast. In the event they did cook me kippers and there was no problem but I was confused as ti why they are on the menu if not readily available. A function on the Saturday night meant the main restaurant was closed to us. We ordered at the bar but it was a bit of a crush due to people at the function queing for drinks. As we had reserved in adavance it would have been good if someone could have come to table to take order.

The room was smaller than expected, but well-aired, quiet, and beautifully clean. There was a view of the dining area directly opposite the bedroom window, which was a surprise, and made sense of the blind being pulled down. Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice of foods. Noone hurried us and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The recently re-vamped ladies toilets near the bar area are very swish. No problem accommodating our dogs - hard to tell who slept most soundly. The beds are so comfortable, I could have happily stayed asleep there all weekend.

There was a slight gap underneath the door to the room; good for ventilation but could, perhaps, be a privacy concern.

Rooms were mostly comfortable. The shower was extremely powerful with hot water at all times tested, this was a particularly good feature and something I think is important. The hotel itself is quaint and well maintained, the breakfast was good. Staff were all friendly and service was good. WiFi was easy to use and worked fine. There were enough parking spaces, as advertised.

The room was dusty and smelled a little fusty, could have done with a deeper clean. The double bed was small, the room was also smaller than expected since we didn't book the 'cosy' but the 'standard' double. There was a lack of toiletries apart from a single bar of soap provided. None of these are a deal-breaker, but considering the room rate I would have expected slightly more for my money.

Stayed 3 nights whilst visiting friends in the town. Every staff member I spoke with was very friendly and welcoming. They offered to take my case up to the room on arrival (not everywhere would do this) The room was very comfortable for my needs and the bed was like home from home, very comfortable and warm. Toiletries in the bathroom were a nice touch. The room was made up on the 2nd morning for my return that night, I was offered it to be made up on my 3rd morning but politely declined, didn't want to give them extra work when I was checking out the next morning anyway. Didn't eat at the hotel but options for breakfast in room was a bonus if you wanted that and there was the option for a takeaway continental breakfast too. I'll definitely stay again when visiting my friends next time I'm down!

The only gripe I had was the people in the room next to me started banging doors the first two mornings at 7:30am - they must have been going down for breakfast!

The hotel has some beautiful stained glass of exceptional quality. The grand staircase is like something from a Poirot set and really unusual. The breakfast room was well lit with a massive glazed ceiling window. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

It would be great to have some more seating areas downstairs as the bar looks very like a night club. We would have liked a meal service in the evening if possible and a hot soup and sandwiches were available but we didn't realise beforehand that it was a narrow option. (But thank you for having that available!)

Very well presented, decorated room, hotel rooms etc. Good standard and portions of food, good choice for breakfast. Friendly staff.

Didn't realise the small packs in the room were shower gel, normally it's in containers and needed more than one sachet for a wash and opened soap bar taken away before being able to use the second day. Was not given the option to go in the Restaurant for dinner, had to eat in the bar where the drinks were overpriced. The menu wasn't large and what I wanted was not available on both nights, 3 things were not available the second night. Glasses had not been cleared from tables and rubbish was amongst the seats in the outside garden area.

The staff are great. The atmosphere is relaxed but organised. Very friendly and comfortable. The rooms are lovely with plenty of space and good facilities. Very comfortable bed and excellent shower with bath. Hotel is very clean and well maintained. We didn't have the breakfast this time but we have had this before and it was very good. We had a meal in the bar which was very well cooked, good quality, and there was plenty of choice. Then we spent time chatting in the lounge with a drink.Thank you for the complimentary mince pies and satsumas.

The house: an ancient mansion with a fireplace, oak paneling in the lounge, and stained glass windows in the staircases. Parts devoted to meetings or events also kept ancient decorations. The room (237) was not very large but comfortable and quiet, with a warm atmosphere and a decent number of power sockets. The small desk allows you to work on a laptop, and there is sufficient storage space for a long stay. The bathroom is well-equipped with ample towels. The Full English breakfast is very varied, generous, and excellent. The diner service is appreciated (but beware of the early closing on Sunday) The staff are friendly and attentive. The large parking. The hotel is an excellent location for tourists who search for a place to stay while visiting renowned Sussex Gardens: some are very close (Bored Hill, Neymans), and many others are around an hour's drive away.

The bar and dining room decor is modern, but the blue light creates too many reflections and a rather cold atmosphere. In some parts of the common areas, the light is too aggressively white; softer shades would enhance the decor. Continental breakfast has more limited choices

We only stayed for one night and didn’t have any meals or drinks at the hotel. Purpose of our visit was to see family nearby. We were very pleased with the location and the price. The beds were comfortable and parking was very good.

The room was very small and the window was right opposite the dining room. This meant that we were overlooked. Diners could see right into the room. The bathroom door had badly scuffed paintwork and the wardrobe door was hanging off. My husband reported this to reception staff.
