Super staff, beautiful gardens, great location close to Plumpton College where we were on a course. Excellent breakfast. Very comfy superking bed, nice pillows. Good shower lots of pressure. Recently voted Wessex Pub of 2025. Interesting menu - mix of small plates and larger.. Local produce. Stunning countryside close to Lewes. Nice decor, lovely orangery for breakfast.

We were allocated Room 3 "Bluebell" which was very small but we were grateful that they hadn't downsized the bed to create more space. The pub focuses on local produce which is great but if you don't like craft beer and would like a classic brown beer you won't like the offering (my husband had the hump he couldn't have a Guinness or classic IPA).

The room, location, facilities, bathroom, staff were all really great. Information was left about the area and different walks, and homemade truffles, cordial and a nespresso machine was very appreciated. Although it is a dog-friendly stay, there was no evidence that any dog had stayed in the room before us - no dog smell etc. so that was very well done. Staff were very friendly and it's nice to see a B&B with some personality

Unfortunately we weren't keen on the breakfast, but that was very much because of my fussiness and not for the lack of effort from the staff, I would have preferred a continental breakfast option

We had to leave before breakfast, sadly - because the cooking bacon smelled delicious. The granola and yoghurt prepared for us the evening before was very good, though one container would have been more than enough for us both. The location down a single track lane was a bit of a surprise, but judging by how busy the pub and restaurant were it's clearly very popular. The evening meal was truly excellent. The room was well appointed, and the little touches, milk in the fridge, chocolates and dog treats for our k9 friends were thoughtful. A pretty landscaped garden must be lovely in rather better weather.

Just our opinion, but the pillows seemed rather hard and unforgiving. Having parked the car at the rear fairly near to the stairs up to the rooms, the very wet and muddy conditions made it hard to not track dirt into the room. Dog towels were provided, and needed. A small suggestion - perhaps a path or continuation of the stepping stones between the rear car park and the rear entrance would better protect the grass which was very boggy with people going between cars and accommodation. The dry alternative is to traipse back and forth through the pub, which with two dogs and all their clutter is a bit of a pain.

We had a two night stay whilst attending a wedding nearby. Very welcoming staff on our first night and friendly throughout our stay. Breakfast choices were lovely, amazing cooked breakfasts. We didn't get chance to stay for lunch/dinner but the menus looked delicious! We managed to follow one of the recommended walks from the doorstep so could explore a little too. Good provisions such as iron/ironing board + a fan. Very clean room with attention to details.

Our room was ontop of the kitchen so it got quite warm even with the windows open - the fan was definitely needed and we were grateful it was available and not taken by another room.

There was a great deal to like! I loved the location amongst the fields and the view; I loved the breakfast; the staff were superbly friendly and professional - even the grounds contractors VISITING for their work were brilliantly friendly (perhaps that's why they have done such a great job on the gardens!) I loved the size of the room, the tiling in the bathroom, the comfort of the bed, the pictures, the space, the ease of getting in and out, the attitude of the whole business, the complimentary goods (including a real jug of milk for unlimited coffees etc). A terrific place. Spotlessly clean and welcoming.

There are no nits to pick. It's a small shame we picked a Tuesday to stay, when the pub itself is not open, because if the breakfast is any guide, the food and drink will be amazing! Next time...

Great country pub to hunker down in on a winter's evening, with very comfortable, well-appointed rooms above. We had a 'small double', but it had a super king bed and a lovely shower room with nice touches- fluffy towels, robes, chilled water and a welcoming bottle of wine. Exceptional freshly cooked breakfast in the cosy bar rounded of a great 24hrs. We're glad we booked the Sunday lunch on arrival as it was great, as was the Christmasy atmosphere in the characterful dining area. All the staff went out of their way to make it a memorable stay.

An incredible stay that exceeded our expectations! Ordinarily we would never stay anywhere that allowed dogs as non pet owners and ended up booking as it was close enough to our sons university! Dogs were very well behaved and the hotel exceptionally clean. Staff were attentive and nothing was any trouble room. Our bedroom was so spacious, decorated beautifully and loved the variety of teas and coffee machine. The bathroom was heaven and do not think we have stayed in an hotel before where everything has been thought of. Breakfast can be pre-ordered but not a problem if not and it was well presented, very tasty and plentiful with a selection of juices.

I cannot find any negatives other than we wish we stayed more than one night.

The setting and design of the gardens, dining area was light & airy. The bedroom was spacious and light.. the shower & bathroom well designed. Windows & blinds added necessary ventilation. Thought given to housing & washing dogs. Food was exceptional, although pricey. Thoroughly worth the treat. Staff again brilliant throughout. Really accommodating & very friendly. They couldn't do enough to please!

We must have arrived at the wrong time, because there was a builder sawing first thing.. Window cleaner whilst we were having breakfast. Extractor fan under window in bed two, was noticeable, quite noisy at times.

The room was modern clean and spaces the bathroom was modern with a walk in shower Tea and coffee facilities were available The bed was huge with quality linen and very comfortable We ate in the restaurant and the quality of the food was excellent quality ingredients cooked to perfection Breakfast was delicious

Unfortunately the weekend we stayed the weather was wet. To get from the car park to the steps that lead to the room meant walking across a very wet slippery muddy lawn,a path or stepping stones would have made it safer

The room was great and really well presented. Extra touches like having a mini fridge and fresh milk was also really appreciated. Front of house was excellent too and although I didn't eat in the restaurant it also looked like a class act. I was running the Brighton marathon the next morning and wasn't disturbed as needed to sleep. However, I was still offered the full guest experience. I will definitely rebook for another time as it's also a great walking base.
