Lovely little place, all the staff were really nice. The rooms were clean and spacious and the bed was comfy. (We’ve even bought the same pillows because we liked them so much!) The bar and restaurant serve great food and there was a really relaxed vibe (and a pool table room!) The breakfast was amazing, and again the staff were great. Perfect location for visiting Hever Castle and the surrounding areas.

With it being an older property, it’s slightly dated and the walls were thinner so we could hear next door, but other than that the room was great (and it wasn’t really an issue!)

From the moment we arrived we knew we would be in good hands: warm welcome from the lovely staff, who are so hard working and always went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay. We booked a weekend away in the area so that we could enjoy autumn walks and we are so glad we chose the Roebuck. There is a bus stop directly outside with links to East Grinstead train station and the village of Forest Row is also a short bus ride away. Several excellent country walks nearby. The food was great quality and well priced; lovely steaks, fabulous Sunday roast, and breakfast was as good as you will find in a 4 star hotel as others have remarked: delicious continental and cooked breakfast selection, including fresh fruit, Greek yoghurt, pastries…I enjoyed the eggs royale from the cooked option and my husband said the full English was great and really set him up for the day. We stayed in a twin room and the beds were comfortable and the room generously sized. Branded Twining tea bags, spotlessly clean room, soft bedding ensured a good nights sleep. The hotel is cosy with lovely warm lighting in the bar area, it has all the benefits of an historic pub, whilst at the same time it is large so you don’t feel cramped as you can do in the usual old pub stays. Perfect location to relax and sit a few hours in one of the cosy chairs. The staff here are truly wonderful, they work so hard but always smiling and friendly, they couldn’t do enough to help. Thank you so much, Roebuck, we look forward to staying again next year.

I arrived about 7pm after a 5am start and a lot of miles. The restaurant staff were really helpful and polite. The food was good and came quickly. Can't get better than that.

The Internet! It was crap. Either downstairs in the restaurant or in the room. I was talking to another guest when I was checking out and he too said it was crap and he was at the other end of the building. As there appears to be almost no cell service in that area, I would suggest that having a reasonable internet service is paramount! The basin in room 205 was cracked and the water took a few minutes to drain away from the bath so I would hazard a guess that it is pretty much blocked!

Very nice old building, good atmosphere, lobby is very cosy, restaurant, bar, breakfast is excellent, good parking, very helpful and friendly staff, seemed popular for eating/drinking/party among locals. We loved the place!

Room was a bit too used, but OK, everything worked, no problem, but nothing outstanding. Room door could be a bit stronger and more secure. No air-conditioning, but fans are provided. For the evening it's ok, but since you cannot open the windows just a bit because of security reasons, during the day it could be a bit unpleasant in a hot summer day.

The food, especially breakfast was very good quality, plentiful and and had an excellent range of choices especially for vegetarians. The staff were pleasant and helpful. There is plenty of parking and the venue has several lovely garden/patio areas.

Our room was at the very rear of the property down several steps and it did feel a bit like we were in a basement giving the room a gloomy feel. We did have an issue with our door/key, this was resolved when a member of staff came and showed us the knack to opening the door but a modern card swipe entry would be much more user friendly!

the location was a charming building which was surrounded by a large amount of the the Ashdown Forest panarama I had requested a quieter room not overlooking the road or bar car park and this was met and the view was into the gardens--- the staff were extremely friendly ,polite ,professional but affable and the food was exceptional .Some may feel the building perhaps not right up to date or modern standard but we both felt it cosy roomy and clean and spacious

We did think some guests may want the bathroom or some aspect of the furnishings to be better maintained but this did not affect us in any way

Staff were very friendly, food was great both evening meals and fabulous breakfast selection, and the service was excellent. Parking and access was good. Location just suited us for access to a wedding venue at High Rocks and relations at Crowbourgh.

There was nothing to dislike due to the age of the property some upgrades to the bedrooms could be done, the door lock on Room 102 was a little temperamental to unlock from the corridor side, but overall you have TV, hot drinks, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, bathroom and comfortable bed and seats, enough room to hang clothes and move around the bedroom.

Beautiful hotel and restaurant a stones throw from the forest. Loved the styling of the restaurant and bar area, with the wooden beams keeping the character of the building. Great food and the staff were faultless! Very attentive for the full duration of our stay and always willing to go the extra mile. Room and bathroom were clean, double bed very comfortable. Overall, would recommend, especially for anyone just looking to sleep and have a good meal for a reasonable price

Rooms could use a little tlc as some of the furniture was creaky or missing handles and the shower needed turning up quite high as the water was near freezing on the setting it was left on.

Beautiful old pub with pretty surroundings Breakfast was filling & with a great choice Lovely hard working & very polite staff , all went out of their way to ensure we had a nice stay & our needs met. The staff organise fun days & special events to encourage customers, a lovely team of staff. We stayed here 6 nights over the Easter wkend & it's great value for your money , we would stay here again .🥰

Although this pub is beautiful & I wouldn't change anything on the outside however I do think that Green King could invest some money on renovating certain areas . The guest rooms could do with new carpets as to the stairs leading up to the pub as they are abit worn. The sofas & some chairs in the pub could do with recovering or replaced As I said it is a very beautiful 17th century pub & you can not fault the staff I mean they work with what they have & do their very best . I also get that with the covid situation alot of pubs had to close & suffered terribly so this all adds to places such as this being victim to not having money pumped into it but I think maybe sometime in the future it would be great to see Green King invest in bringing some sparkle into certain parts of it.

Warm, friendly staff that went out of their way to help. Great location for what we were planning to do. Comfortable facilities. Although breakfast was during set times, you could ask for it later if you slept in. We will definitely be going back there.

When my friend went to add breakfast, they said it was £12.50 a day, without telling you the options first, which is a bit sneaky in my opinion. If you just want continental breakfast, it's £7.50 a day. The plate and bowl sizes are tiny to discourage you from taking big portions. I guess you can go back for more, but it's a clever tactic. And bring an extension lead if you want to charge your phone overnight and keep it by your bed.
