It is a beautiful property. The staff was absolutely wonderful, friendly, efficient and very helpful. My room was spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was generous...yogurt, cheese, meats, bread, Cornetto, etc. There was always hot water and the bathroom was roomy enough.

What I didn't like had little to do with the property...I came in mid March and neither the restaurant nor the little shop were open. This was a particular problem for me because I did not have a car and this is a property better enjoyed with a car. There is a lovely, but roughish path down to Assisi...about 10 minutes going down and perhaps 15 coming up. It is, however, unlit, so after dark one needs a good torch. The second negative, again has to do with the time of year...my room was quite cold most of the time. Clearly, not a problem in high season. So even with these negatives I would not hesitate to recommend this property, the setting is absolutely wonderful and the staff is top notch.

The location is amazing, especially if you’re traveling with children. There’s a private, quiet path into Assisi (a beautiful walk, overlooking the valley), and a playground and donkeys to pet. And every night at 7, an amazing restaurant opens that makes you feel at home except with superb food cooked over a wood-heated fire right before your eyes. Also, the staff were kind and super helpful.

Fontemaggio has the rustic feeling of a time-honored family establishment.

I wish I could have stayed longer!
