Everything exceeded our expectations. The staff were absolutely brilliant, friendly, efficient and helpful. We were a bit incompetent as guests and they supported us on a couple of occasions! We somehow managed to blow the fuse to the hairdryer socket, which took out the power to the apartment. It was all resolved without any recriminations, we were able to continue with our day while the maintenance team sorted it out. We asked for the hotel reception to order us a taxi and my husband mistakenly left his phone on the back seat, another incident resolved with a call to the hotel reception! We continued our trip to Erice for the day, while reception rang the taxi company and had the phone located and returned to the hotel. The staff were amazing. Our room was perfect, we slept well every night, the A/C , shower and all facilities were very good. Breakfast was lovely and leisurely, with a wonderful assortment of fresh breads, pastries, yogurt, fruits, eggs, cheeses and salami. Oranges were available to freshly squeeze and barista coffee was served. Towels and sheets were beautifully white, and immaculate. Ai Lumi has the most charming courtyard, giving it an air of romance. When we come to Trapani again, we'll stay here if there's availability!

There was nothing to dislike.

Ai Lumi is a true gem of a find, right in the heart of the old town. Centered around a historic courtyard filled with exotic trees and plants, the rooms have an old world charm about them with enormously high ceilings and balconies overlooking the bustling Corso Vittorio Emanuele. You truly feel as though if you're living in an Ernest Hemingway or D.H Lawrence novel. There is also a north African feeling about the place, reminiscent of a Moroccan Riad, perhaps harking back to when the Moors occupied Sicily. The couple running the place are so charming and knowledgeable about the area, and kindly allowed us to add on an extra night for a slight discount, since we luckily visited out of season. Breakfast is served in the restaurant downstairs which was a buffet style affair with fresh fruit, granola and interesting bread. We didn't end up eating dinner in the restaurant as there are so many wonderful other options in the old town which we found recommendations for. The port is around a 5-10 minute walk away, where you can catch day boats to the Egadi islands (highly recommend the small boat/snorkelling trip with Torre lines over the bigger passenger boats). Although the nearest beach is only a 3 minute walk away, there is a lot of sea grass. Half an hour on a local bus will take you to Spiaggia di San Giuliano which is a good option. But the best beaches are on the Egadi Islands and further up the coast at San Vito Le Capo and Scopello. Do not miss out the funicular to Erice! A wonderful and fascinating day out.

The location and the age of it

The reception staff were very short with us when we arrived. We’d booked a single taxi but the taxi company put on a multi person cab which meant we had to wait for all the other passengers, consequently making us very late for the hotel who had specifically gone in to open up for us. He said it should’ve taken us 25 mins not 50. This was out of our hands but he seemed quite unhelpful for the rest of the week

Fantastic! This place has so much character and is a terrific place to stay. We had a lovely room (actually, a kind of 'suite'), with beautiful touches to the decor and an air of total Italian authenticity. The location, on an attractive pedestraianised street in the heart of old Trapani, is superb, and entering through the plant-filled courtyard provides a lovely welcome, as do the staff. The 'tavernetta' they own next door exudes the same lovely ambience (and served excellent food, with a 15% discount for residents); and breakfast, also served here, was very good (the self-serve, freshly squeezed orange juice was a special touch). Our one night here didn't do the place justice. We will be back! PS The winch-and-pulley system whereby my wife's case was transferred up to our seceond-floor room was the icing on the cake. What a place!

Excellent location closed to the seaside and to everything one needs while on holiday : shops, restaurants, train station, bus station and harbour. The Hotel has got its own restaurant, which gives 15% discount to the customers of the hotel, food served is excellent by the way. Staff is friendly and helpful and willing to give you some advice on things to see and do in the area if you need to. My room was so spacious and clean. All perfect 👌🏻

The building is gloriously rustic Sicilian palazzo complete with courtyard. The restaurant serving delicious breakfast lunch and dinner looks out onto the charming pedestrianised Main Street of the city.

Understandably, a building of this age doesn’t have 21st century plumbing… so if you need instant high power roomy walk in showers you might be disappointed. I wasn’t…

Exceptional location in the best street of old town Trapani with loads of cafes and restaurants, 5 minute walk to the port. Lovely size room, comfortable bed, well presented. Charming building. Breakfast was lovely with cappuccino, and we also had dinner at the attached restaurant which was fabulous.

I had selected a terrace room, and I knew that there was no lift, but there were 3 flights of steps then a very narrow spiral staircase to climb up at the last. Hard work and a bit scary!

The Sicilian palace is charming and is located on the main street. We were very happy to select it as a central point of our visits in the region: Favignana (the port is nearby), Erice, Segesta, Mozia, Marsala, Salinunte, ... Even more, is a quite clean and safe city. The beach along the wall is great and with clear and blue water. Breakfast is served in the restaurant with a splendid terrace where you can enjoy the products they offer every day, such as fresh orange juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, and cappuccino. There are many good restaurants around, with good food and local wines for a reasonable price. People are very kind and trustworthy.

Everything exceeded our expectations and we don't have any complain. It was the perfect B&B for our stay in Trapani.

Perfect, beautiful, central location in Trapani. Kind, friendly staff. We were upgraded and had a very spacious terrace room. Francesca phoned in advance to alert us of high traffic in Trapani- it was very kind and we really appreciated it. Typical Italian breakfast was perfect, with freshly squeezed orange juice. Would recommend and stay again.

We loved staying at historic Ai Lumi, it has a really special ambience. Breakfast is light continental and you can squeeze your own fresh orange juice. The staff are lovely and we got extra help with our luggage as it turned out we were booked into the top floor. An interesting experience climbing the steep spiral staircase after dinner! The bedroom was completely quiet although facing onto the main street, so we slept well. We enjoyed exploring Trapani, it was very easy from the hotel. Dario organized a driver for us to get to Palermo airport, everything went according to plan.

Nothing. Just be aware there are stairs, no elevator, just a basket and winch for your luggage. Staff are very helpful however. Please include muesli in the breakfast menu maybe.
