Beautiful gardens and main house Our room the Gate house .. very Spacious and comfortable. Being GW Bawa’s country retreat ,the design and restoration from plantation and residence to its present form and gardens is magnificent.

Our hot water ran out at one stage .. briefly. We had a flight from Colombo at midnight and should have liked a late check out .. or at least a chance to shower before leaving at 5 pm for the airport 2 hours away. We stayed and spent our money in the restaurant as it was … why not provide a room to freshen up in before a late departure ? Please note the humidity is relentless and one really needs two showers a day anyway.

The whole setting is just fabulous. It is worth staying a night as you get to really explore the gardens. The staff was very accommodating to us, organising a special tour. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious

The lunch and dinner options were a bit boring. The Lunuganga salad could have been something fabulous considering all the fantastic leaves Sri Lanka has on offer but instead it was a plain, standard few lettuce leaves with a few flower petals. There is hardly any options for vegans which one of our guests is.

If you have come here because you are a Geoffrey Bawa fan you could ask for nothing more. We were booked into a cottage in the grounds but upgraded to the guest suite in the bungalow. We were taken for a tuktuk ride to our original booking which was also uniquely amazing and a short walk from the main house. We enjoyed the tour of the grounds - do not miss this. Breakfast was fabulous, cooked to order on the terrace. Dont miss out on the G&T cocktail hour- various local flavours

Nothing not to like.

I cannot write an objective review for the place since from me this was like a pilgrimage because I am just a huge fan of Geoffrey Bawa. Just being there was a dream come true! The staff is exceptional, very thoughtful and well mannered. The small touches like the happy hour where they serve home infused gin and tonic ( Bawa’s favourite) by the Lunuganga is an experience in itself. The sense was of history , his whimsical sense of design , his attention to detail is a learning in itself.. What a legacy !

Very charming and peaceful place with exceptional service and attention to the details. - authentic interiors, clean, with an interesting book about Jeoffrey Bawa in each room - good coffee and tea selection in room - high quality food during the breakfast and dinner, the prices in restaurant are ok - the best service in Sri Lanka, especially in restaurant

The payment policy isn’t transparent. On booking it’s mentioned that it will be charged in advance, but actually in need to pay at the hotel. So be attentive with your card

I was captivated by its secluded location and natural beauty. The architecture, designed by Geoffrey Bawa, beautifully harmonizes with the lush surroundings, creating a truly enchanting atmosphere. The service was exceptional, with attentive staff who made us feel right at home.

While my overall stay was delightful, I did find our rooms and bathrooms to be on the smaller side. However, these minor points did not detract from the magical charm of the estate.

Lunuganga is exceptionally relaxing, peaceful and visually beautiful. Bawa’s style and vision has been perfectly preserved and is something to be seen. The staff were so wonderful, calm and helpful - a perfect alignment with the property itself. The tour of the property allowed us to see the incredible design and thought put into each dwelling, including the gardens. We were lucky enough to stay in the Gate House, which was ideally located. We had a swim in the pool which was so serene and private. Some staff have been working here for 15+ years making them amazing custodians of the property. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed all meals at the main house, allowing us time and space to wander around, swim, read and take it all in. This is a truly special place and a must visit.

The garden environment on the river, friendly and helpful staff, great food, interesting and stunning architecture with many of the Geoffrey Bawa original furnishings. Gorgeous swimming pool?!

The room was lacking conveniences of working electric outlets for charging personal technology, a place to plug in a hairdryer, mirror in the bedroom, and a closet large enough to hang the clothes for 2 people.

All the staff are educated on the historical background of the hotel, respected architect Bawa, and are proud to do their respective jobs!

About the food, I don't think it is bad. The hotel is indeed the most impressive in Sri Lanka. However, it was not the best meal in Sri Lanka. The portions were a bit much for us. A little less and more variety of flavors in each dish would make it more enjoyable for a few nights.
