Breakfast is always great. The Inn is situated in a lovely little medievalish town and 2 minutes' drive from the Wellcome genome campus. It has parking, which you do not pay for additionally, which is also why I like to come here. When I got there, my room was upgraded, which was a really nice experience. This was my 3rd time there and I love to stay at this Inn - the staff are so friendly and helpful and Chris is such a helpful, kind host, who assisted me late at night when I had troubles with finding my keys. Thanks Chris! I recommend this Inn for anyone who wants a real old-world English Inn experience with lovely breakfast, a nice garden to sit in, and close to Cambridge (20 min), Wellcome Genome Campus (2 min), and Saffron Walden (5 min). Really lovely experience for me.

The staff are the hotel's biggest asset as they are so friendly and helpful. They were able to recommend places to eat locally (all of which were excellent) and give information on local places to visit. The garden is lovely and, as the weather was beautiful, we sat out there every day with the choice of undercover or under the trees. Our rooms were in the newer block and were comfortable and quiet with every facility you might need.

Some people might find the lack of an onsite restaurant for lunch or dinner a problem. Breakfast was good.

The hotel is not part of a chain and in some areas needs a bit of TLC, having said that we found the ambiance of the whole building to be very welcoming and friendly. The room was spacious and comfortable with a large bathroom. The bar area was very pleasant with the staff excellent. The breakfast was cooked to order with locally sourced ingredients and of very good quality and portion. Again very good staff, they all seemed to get what is required in a hospitality environment On the whole we would stay there again when in the area.

As above some areas could do with refurbishment, the windows for example, not easy as I believe the building is in a conservation area and all the issues that brings

The staff were very accommodating and my wife's request for porridge was no problem as was for fewer tea bags in our tea - two in a small pot was way too many. The upgrade into the bridal suite was greatly appreciated as it was actually our 40th wedding anniversary - not that we had told you that. Checking in was very straightforward and the chap on reception was very engaging and interesting. The garden is wonderful.

The room we had was a bit dated in decor but incredibly spacious. I would be interested to know how often that huge plunge bath was used. The shower temperature seemed to vary.

Well located in Saffron Walden with good sized car park. Staff were very welcoming and attentive. Hotel is very welcoming with bar area and lounge plus option to eat breakfast inside well laid out room or their large conservatory.

Room was a clean but a little tired/dated. No black out blinds so early sun light came through curtains. No evening meal was available but this would not deter me from staying again as they directed me to two very local pubs which both have superb choices of food,

Room was perfectly adequate for our one night stay. Clean and everything you needed was on hand. Breakfast we had in the Garden room with the rest of our family. We didnt really see any staff as it was buffet in the entrance hall but what we had was hot and was being refreshed often.

nothing wrong but did note that there was not a notice on the back of the room door in case of emergencies and the tiny step through one of the doors off of the stairs is not marked and easily missed.

The people were so helpful and friendly. What a beautifully run hotel. Could not do enough for us. Have never felt so looked after. The room was so pretty. Light and very airy. Bathroom huge and clean. But the staff were exceptional. The lady that met us on arrival, sorry we didn’t get your name was so wonderful. Thank you for making our stay so stress free. Breakfast ! Omg stunning. Filled our tummies and enjoyed every mouthful. Again staff could not do enough. Recommend for sure. If in the area we would 100% choose here. Thank you x

Nothing. Perfect hotel. Awesome staff

Breakfast was great the bath tub in the room was huge the overall place is great the staff are polite and extremly helpful thanks.

Only thing that would have made it better would be some food available after breakfast maybe a bar menu in evenings and possible to get sandwiches during day air con would have been great as it was extremly hot on our stay but there was a fan in the room otherwise a great hotel.

The room was very comfortable, overlooking a pretty garden. It had everything I needed. The bed/duvet/pillows were extremely comfortable. Breakfast had the choice of anything I could have wanted and the staff were very kind and obliging. The owner?manager? was very helpful in helping me arrange a taxi to get me to the crematorium the next day. The actually building was lovely - historic and quirky, and could be an excellent base if I'd driven there for pleasure, not just for the purposes of going to a friend's funeral. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if I had my own transport and wanted to explore the area.

It would have been lovely if the hotel had done evening meals, but I understood this before I visited, and had booked a local restaurant, but this did mean having to walk for 10 mins on my own in the dark. The village was very quiet, and there weren't any alternatives (fish & chips to eat in my room, for example). I also found I was more bothered than I expected that there was a step between my room and my ensuite. I'm 75 now, and this has never been a problem, and wasn't now, but it did make me think about the future. And that I was on the 2nd floor (ditto). This is not a fault of the hotel. I thought the room was on the expensive side, but I could have had a cheaper (single) room if I'd wished. And it's an old, historic building, which must take quite a bit of upkeep.

This is our third visit to The Crown House Inn and we love it here.We were in the stable part of the hotel which is really quiet and peaceful.Breakfasts were great and we enjoyed them very much. The hotel seems to be very popular and quite busy at the weekends. It does not do dinner so we went to the Crown and Thistle a short walk away.Great Chesterford is a lovely village and we always enjoy walking around it.

Everything was great.
