I found the hotel to be a wonderful find and the perfect balance of a comfortable place without feeling like there is no authentic culture associated with your stay. It is not an overly fancy property, nor does it pretend to be—but that is exactly its charm. A primary driver for me when looking for a place in the area was its proximity to the Calabazo entrance of Parque Tayrona (which, I feel, is by far the better entrance to take). Los Portales is about a 5-10 min walk to that entrance, which is about as good as one could hope for. The hotel is attached to a restaurant frequented by people from the local community and a beautiful plant nursery that is a multigenerational business. Both are wonderful. (Although it was torture to see all the amazing plants and know I couldn’t take any home to the US.) The restaurant is open from 6am-until around 10pm and serves a great Colombian fare for all three meals. The arepas are incredible and definitely not to be missed. Again, this is not a place to overly complicated 5-star cuisine, but the food is very good, authentic, and the waitstaff are always kind and helpful. What’s more, you can enjoy your meal while scores of hummingbirds visit the nearby feeders overlooking the plant nursery. Blue, the resident macaw, is delightful to watch from his central position in the garden. If you forget your alarm clock, there is a small team of roosters that will happily help you out, which I found both genuinely helpful and charming. The grounds also feature peafowl, chickens, and guinea hens—a reminder that you are staying on a property that serves more function than just a hotel. There is a swimming pool with hammocks available if you want to cool off or lounge a bit. My room was comfortable and the AC was perfect to help cut the humidity. That combined with the ceiling fan meant I slept beautifully every night. The bathroom shower is open to the outdoors, so ensure the door is kept closed to reserve your AC.

Nothing really. It was a great place.

We stayed 2 nights at this resort. For location, it was perfect for us being able to walk to the Calabazo entrance of the park. The room was a good size and the bed comfortable. A mosquito net is included which we used at night. We ate at the restaurant for included breakfasts and dinner on both nights. The portion sizes are large and food quite good.

The pool area looked quite nice but the water itself didn't seem very clean and the jets weren't running to keep the water moving. Maybe it's because we seemed to be some of the only people staying in the resort during our stay. Small thing as everything else was exactly as we needed.

Beautiful, tranquil location. Fab pool, terraces, hammocks and billiards table. Lots of birds and tree frogs on site. Super handy for entry to Tayrona national park, just a short walk. One day, leaving early, and with the help of moto taxis we hiked to peaceful and beautiful Playa Brava and back same day before the Cadaboza entrance closed at 3.00pm - quite a hike but worth doing. Atmospheric jungle, passing indigenous settlements on the way. A short hike up to a mirador for views was good too. Nice relaxed accommodation and chilled helpful staff - no English speaking but we got by with our stumbling Spanish and Google translate helped a lot! Recommended!

Only thing was an issue with the shower head in our accommodation (but nothing that Google translate couldn't fix)

Beautiful property, like living in a garden full of exotic birds. Restaurant on site is really good with huge selection of items. We enjoyed every meal. Highlight was watching all the hummingbirds come to the feeders all day long. Don’t forget Maya the friendly and crazy macaw that yells hola at you. Very quiet at night with large pools and hammocks to relax in. Tayrona National Park main entrance is a short bus ride away. Very easy to get back and forth.

Lovely place, make sure you ask them to turn on the hot water heater for you.

The location was a perfect starting point for a hike into Tayrona National Park - the Calabazo entrance to the park is only 300 metres from the hotel. The grounds were lovely - a bit close to the road so the charm was not in exclusivity but everything else was wonderful. The restaurant is open all day (including breakfast at 6 am) so you can come and go as you please in line with your hikes. The pool was also clean and perfect for relaxing! The room was cool and air conditioned.

There was no filtered water available on site. So you need to buy your own water bottles for drinking.

The facilities were amazing. The pool and the gardens were wonderful and the food was very good too. The location was great and the staff were really kind.

The room was quite tiny for four people and beds were small for two people too. There was no storage room. We noticed that the staff was working around the clock. The room was apparently clean, but it was dirty under the beds and in some other parts. The food at the restaurant was excellent but it took extremely long to order and eat anything (around 40 minutes even when the restaurant was not crowded).

Beautiful place. You're located on the 'big' road but because of the garden you wouldn't say so. We saw so many animals here, we really enjoyed the nature and the surroundings. We also liked the staff here. They only speak Spanish but are very approachable and they managed to understand our subpar Spanish. Other things: good food (big portions!), large pool, free storage of luggage, safe feeling, comfortable bed and walking distance from the entrance to Tayrona. Our advice: spend the night here and in the morning take the Calabazo-entrance, stay the night at Playa Brava and hike back via Cabo San Juan. Then book one last night here to take a shower and have a nice relaxing afternoon.

There are a lot of animals (birds, lizards) here and during the night, you can hear them on the roof. It spooked me a bit, so good to keep in mind!

Very well appointed property with pool, lounging areas and private outdoor balcony with hammocks. Diego, the owner/manager was extremely helpful navigating my hike through Tyrona State Park. he was always available on WhatsApp and answered all my questions immediately regarding travel onward. The staff are extremely kind and patient. The food is excellent. The room was extremely clean and smelled fresh. The sheets and towels are fresh as well. The private patio with hammock was a very nice tranquil area.

Really good location! You can walk just down the road to get to the Calablazo entrance of Tayrona Park or take a bus for about 15 mins to the main entrance. The pool is gorgeous and it’s such lovely surroundings. We enjoyed the parrots and peacocks! The bed is comfy and it’s so quiet at night, we slept very well. Being able to check out at 1pm is great!

Our room wasn’t very clean. The floor felt very dirty and our shower had sand in it, presumably from the previous guests. Also our shower didn’t drain so on the first night only one of us could shower, once we told the staff it was sorted quickly though.

We loved everything about our stay! You are immersed in the natural beauty with so many lovely animals on the property, including peacocks, chickens, lizards, a parrot, tons of hummingbirds and friendly dogs and cat! It’s conveniently located close to the national park too, which makes it super easy to get to. The room was good, location was great, pool was lovely and staff were so friendly.

Nothing to complain about here!
