Fascinating location in an old artists colony in the forest. The architecture of the house is wonderful and was designed by the famous painter who built it. The area is super fancy and we somehow managed to get a great price. We tried to stay there on our way back but was a bank holiday weekend and prices more than doubled, though still a great place if we could have afforded it the second time. We will be looking out for more bargains that come up in this magical place.

As it's a bit far out of town and in a very wealthy area , there are not many reasonably priced restaurants nearby

Historical building in leafy garden - former home of local painter. Spacious room with tasteful decor. Friendly staff but reception only staffed at certain times. Access by code at other times. Upper floors access by lift. On site parking on loose gravel area. Bit challenging for motorbikes. Choice of restaurants a short drive away. Ample buffet breakfast with wide choice of "continental" options as well as "eggs with bacon" local style.

Access through posh villas estate with very narrow lanes, cobbles and busy with fast ("entitled") local drivers... Perhaps they see too many tourists in their "exclusive" surroundings...?? Glad to see a kettle in the room... but water came out of the tap slightly brown and smelling a little earthy. Faux suede armchairs rather well-used. Not terribly attractive nor practical. Bed was a little soft and bouncy (well used?)

Beautiful green setting. Very quiet and relaxing, we took a walk and enjoyed spring at its best. Eady car parking. Breakfast was good, better than expected based on the reviews I read. But not worth EUR 22! That would mean fresh juice, fruit and bubbles next to the standard, although the waffles were fun to make. Lovely sauna outside which we did not use but it looked great. Easy parking but you need a car. Taxi van for 6 to Ghent was eur 55. Uber back was 30. The nearby town center has great restaurants and plenty of galleries , we visited 2 and got great explanations about the art there from lovely people. It was like a private art museum visit.

Staff was nice but a bit slow, it took 10 min to check in an we waited 15 min for a bottle of wine on the terrace. Breakfast could offer some fresh fruit salad, juice and bubbles for the amount of eur 22. No public transport to go to Ghent, but you need to drive.

Room was very big and the bed was extremely comfy. We were on the ground floor right next to the main door to the reception but everyone used the side door so we were not disturbed by noise.

The bathroom did not have any shower gel or shampoo. We could hear a dog barking in another room and right above our room there was a child running around. We avoided the breakfast as we had seen the reviews are poor. We hired bicycles for 25 euro each per day and found they were very expensive. The bicycles are priced at 20 euro each on the info book in the room.

The hotel was all that was promised and then some! I recently stayed at this hotel and was thoroughly impressed by the serene and calming atmosphere. When we arrived, we were greeted by 2 small cats who walked us to the front door which was cute. The room was spotless, and the attention to cleanliness was evident throughout the entire property. What truly set this hotel apart was the fresh and pleasant scent that greeted me the moment I walked in—such a refreshing touch! If you're looking for a quiet and relaxing stay where you can unwind in a clean, comfortable environment, this is the perfect place. I’ll definitely be back on my next trip! 5 stars all the way!

That we didn't stay longer :/

Hotel Torenhof is a memorable place to stay, a beautiful old house set in extensive gardens, which was once the home of a famous painter. It is in a lovely village just outside Ghent, with large properties and a real feeling of being in the countryside, although it is close to the city. There is a beautiful walk down to the river and a splendid restaurant in the village. It is supremely peaceful - we loved having an evening drink in the cool of the garden after driving all day. Our room was stylish and the bed very comfortable.

It was unusually hot (31 degrees) and when we arrived our room was stifling, as the air conditioning didn’t work. The staff brought us a fan which made sleeping bearable, but it is important to note that the staff go off duty at 7pm, so if we had complained about the heat after that, there would have been no one to help.

Stunning building, beautiful surroundings, with the lovely Sint-Martens-Latem town, shops and nature walkable too. The building itself has a lot of history with art on the wall in the dining hall that was painted by an artist who lived there. Breakfast was available at the property. We had a contactless check-in with a door code which was fast and easy (although be warned, the phone reception is basically non-existent at the property).

The shower in the room was a bit broken which wasn’t ideal. The breakfast was ok, but not amazing, and that was exacerbated by the fact there were some significant differences on our first and second mornings (the second morning was a little better).

The surroundings of the hotel are fabulous, in a very very calm spot, in the middle of nature, but not far away from city center (by car 15min, by bus is 30min+getting to bus stop).

It's very nice that they have coffee machines in the rooms, and some cookies as well; the coffee machine could have been cleaner, though, especially the water deposit. Also, the pillows were a bit too high for me. Apart from that, everything else was perfect.

We had a wonderful stay here. The staff were so nice and helpful. Even their resident cat, Snoopy, came to see us and took a nap on my knee. Breakfast was really nice, if slightly overpriced, but the low cost of the room offset that. We would definitely stay here again, the area is beautiful! The sauna looked really nice but we were only staying one night so didn’t get a chance to use it.

An authentic old house in a picturesque town. I loved the atmosphere and the friendly staff! The bed was comfortable, the breakfast-delicious, prepared on the spot. There are also places to eat nearby. The room was warm, clean and cosy. It was very quiet and I slept great. I enjoyed my stay so much I am already planning how and when to come again for longer time
