This was our first stay in South Africa, and within hours of arriving at Devon Valley we knew it would not be our last. This hotel is a hidden gem, set in the beautiful vineyard country close to Stellenbosch. I wish there were more stars to give the staff who made our stay such a joy. Special mentions to Edgar, the manager of the fabulous Flavours restaurant, and Juliano in the bar who could mix the perfect gin martini. I’m sorry I can’t remember her name but the lady on reception was also super helpful organising us a wine tour with a local guide. The hotel is idyllic, with a great terrace where you can enjoy a meal or drinks while enjoying the magnificent views. We also partook in a wine tasting experience with canapés of some local wines, with Juliano giving us lots of info and also being great company. Stellenbosch was an easy 5 minute drive and Franschoek around 40 minutes through fabulous scenery. We went on a Friday which was market day where the quality of goods on offer were great. We spent 3 nights here at the beginning of a 2 week holiday around the Cape and are already planning our return with at least 5 nights at Devon Valley.

We were pleasantly surprised to arrive at ‘Devon Valley Hotel’ to find an establishment surrounded by lovely gardens and fine views over the valley and vineyards. Having presented ourselves at reception we were assisted by a very capable and gracious young man named Wayne and offered a glass of refreshing wine. The accommodation was spacious, perfectly clean, stylishly decorated with upmarket furnishings and finishes and the beds very comfortable. We enjoyed a lovely supper in the attractively styled restaurant that overlooks the garden before retiring for the night. In the morning - we enjoyed a generous buffet-styled breakfast, with a variety of tasty options. The restaurant staff were helpful and efficient. I can readily recommend a stay at Devon Valley Hotel.

The television set’s picture was grainy and unwatchable. Using the shower caused the tiled floors and toilet to becoming wet. I know it is the trend these days not to have shower doors, but this arrangement is wholy and annoyingly impractical. Failing which - why not provide a squeegee, of the kind I found used all over Israel in bathrooms. Although we declined the offered help with our suitcases, this was a mistake as the walk to our rooms was long and tedious, first through the main hotel, then along the corridor of the annex, over some rather dodgy paving and on to the far side of our block.

The Barman was excellent, and the waiters once we asked them to serve us, then they were very good. The staff and management made it very special for our 40th wedding anniversary after we spent our honeymoon at Devon valley in 1984. This was really appreciated and their friendliness and of course meeting us with Edgar again who is excellent!

There was a very odd coffee table in our bedroom that was just way too big and out of place, but otherwise it was extremely comfortable and pleasant. Very satisfied and thank the Devon Valley staff!

The property is handy for Stellenbosch and surrounding areas. There is plenty of parking - although some way from the premises. Our room was comfortable and spacious enough. A highlight was the restaurant. Our evening meal was excellent as was breakfast. We had stayed in a number of other excellent hotels over that period - and The Devon Valley food shone above the others.

Parking a fair distance from reception. Help was available for the bags - but it still meant a walk back to the car in the rain.

We stayed with a large group of friends. DVH was a great location for us with enough space, cost bar to meet for drinks, good restaurant, great views

The pool needs to be looked after, not a cozy setup. Hotel wanted to shorten our stay or move us to different rooms during stay. Luckily we booked through booking.com which gave the hotel less possibilities to kick us out/around. At the end they apologized.

Beautiful location, just outside Stellenbosch. Loved everything about it. Devon Valley will be my preferred place to stay in Stellenbosch. (Easy access to town and not so busy surroundings or traffic)

Just a suggestion - the al carte menu can have more dinner options if you stay more than three nights. Otherwise, a superb setting, perfect for a corporate event or function.

The hotel is very cozy with french details, very romantic. Being situated in the winery makes it even more enjoyable. The beds are very comfortable, the breakfast is amazing. We had also dinner and the food is delicious. Everything was very clean and the staff very friendly and polite.

The bed was a bit small (as I am used with extra king size beds). The pool area was very dirty. In the bathroom there is no space to put your cosmetics, which makes it a bit inconvenient.

We enjoyed our time at the pool and the bar. Cocktails were great and the Barmen were attentive. Staff are super friendly and very helpful. The room was cosy and romantic. A cute kitty greeted us at reception :-)

Food could be improved. Not much variety of fruit avail for breakfast and the bacon was terrible. Hard and dry, would be nice to have the option of steaky bacon aswell instead of just back bacon. Ordered a Burger and Cajun Salad for dinner, wasnt impressed. The patty was more like a frikkadel, not much flavour and the roll was a panini, very hard and difficult to cut, should rather be a burger bun. The chicken in my salad was overcooked and hard, lacked flavour and didnt have any Cajun seasoning on it at all. It was very bland.. had very little dressing on it, very basic.

Really nice selection for breakfast.

Some weird omissions like no bath plug, due to water restrictions. But I am not aware of any water restrictions currently still in place here, with all the dams overflowing lately.
