It’s a lovely old country pub really well cared for and clean. The staff are nice and friendly and the ambience of the place is really nice. The food looked good and they had plenty on there menus to choose from although we didn’t eat there on the night we arrived as we had eaten earlier as we didn’t know what time we would be arriving. Our room was nice and spacious, clean and tidy and very quiet considering this pub is on a main duel carriageway we had a very good nights sleep. The breakfast menu has lots of choice and the food was hot and very tasty we had a very nice stay for the night.
We didn’t see anything we didn’t like about the Cross keys, the car park is huge and the gardens at the rear are really nice.

Comfortable, convenient and very good value.
*Several dirty marks on bedroom wall near the kettle. It could have done with a good wipe over. *The website wouldn’t let me book a table for dinner until 9.00pm. As this was not suitable for us (too late) I phoned and was given an earlier booking, no problem. The dining room was less than half full on Saturday evening so I suspect the table booking portal on the website needs checking as it is obviously causing you to loose customers. If I hadn’t been staying I would have given up and gone elsewhere assuming that you were fully booked.

The hotel itself is nice, lovely food and very friendly helpful staff, the bar and restaurant are very family friendly with plenty of lovely outside spaces to sit. The rooms are spacious and the beds are huge and comfortable however the kids bed was far too small for my tall 15yr old son, it’s a camp bed not a proper bed so I slept on that and my son slept in the bed with his dad, not a major problem but would be better to have a proper bed for older kids.
The bathrooms are in desperate need of refurbishing, there’s lots of black mould imbedded in the silicone all around the bath and shower areas, the shower goes cold after the first persons shower, so 2 out of 3 of us had cold showers.

Comfy bed, good choice of drinks/biscuits, parking, hot water. Location in terms of travelling to Guisborough and for getting home again. Fluffy towels.
Some road noise as my room on the front. Bath/shower needs a refurb; bath didn't have much flat base when standing to shower. Bath chipped. Shower head could have been bigger. Was encouraged to book breakfast and pay for it the evening before ( we assumed because the hotel was going to be busy) We didn't want to be pushed to pay the evening before. It also semed expensive. We had breakfast somewhere else.

Staff were excellent especially the Assisant Manager Ben, he took the time to talk to us, gave us advice along with Pam who was serving our breakfast on places to visit in the area. Ben also immediately solved a small issue we had with our sink basin draining, and I do mean immediately 😎 A friendly professional team working together to make our stay comfortable and relaxing.
It was exactly as advertised and I'd not disappointed at all.

Room nice and comfortable. Restaurant lovely . Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice.
Duvets were much too thick and heavy. Asked if I could have a lighter tog but was told no, all duvets are the same whether in summer or winter. Beds were on canisters which made getting in and out of bed difficult as they kept moving. I was frightened of ending up on the floor. Not enough milk, sugar and teabags left in the room for two people to have a couple of hot drinks each. Although to be fair there were other alternatives available.

We stayed here on our weekend in Whitby, we found the location brilliant as a point in the middle of the sights we wanted to visit in the weekend. Easy to find, lots of parking and good facilities.
The only thing we could possibly comment on was that it didn’t have air conditioning in the room and it was a hot weekend, and we were on the ground floor next to the main road so I didn’t want to open the windows in the room whilst staying with the kids

The Hotel itself is absolutely set in in lovely grounds. The reception staff were lovely and welcoming, our first visit to this part of the world. We were booked in without any issues and given our room number and key. Would have preferred ground floor room but that is my fault, not theirs, as I should of requested one, due to heart problems with stairs. The room was basic with everything you needed, NOW the beds, WOW they must be one of the nicest, comfortable beds we have ever slept on!!! I would never leave my bed if I had one of those at home. Amazing. The bathroom maybe needs a little touching up with rust in bath etc but basic for what you need I wasn't spending my weekend in there so everything was fine. Breakfast for the two days, We were shown to our table, sat and ordered, Coffee first and my only thing was I would of liked a few coffees but didn't ask as no one else seemed to get another one either so do not know if you have to ask or if its extra charge. Ordering breakfast quite straight forward requesting what you would like in your full English all presented well and cooked to perfection, no complaints from either my partner or I. You could help yourself to cereal, yogurt etc and was a lot of choice for all. I used the ladies in the eating area and they were immaculate, also the cleaning lady ( I think she wore hearing aids) well what a lovely friendly lady she was, she went out of her way to say good morning and always a smile on her face, made us feel so welcome. Serving staff were all pleasant and welcoming too. Also the Chef thank you food was lovely. One more mention is to the night porter on reception, we had left our room key at reception as not to lose it, and when coming back to collect he was lovely and very helpful indeed, so thank you. The whole stay was very enjoyable and if we ever come to Middlesbrough again we would definitely stay here again.
If I had one thing that concerned me, just a little, it was the locks on the room doors, They need updating to a better lock system as was worried at first but everything was fine just seem a little out dated for such a nice hotel.

Staff were very friendly. Our group were indebted to them when we had a problem with car on departure . We had to unpack all luggage and wait for a hire car. We were able to stack it in reception and wait in the warmth.
The only problem we found was that in the wheelchair accessible room, the support rail in the bathroom could not be put into the folded position (because of the bathroom shelf) and this restricted access by wheelchair user to the sink.

The staff were amazing and went above and beyond. Nothing was too much trouble and they were very friendly from the minute we got there to the minute we left. The restaurant/ pub is warm and welcoming with outstanding food and presentation. The location is very central of the places we needed to be, but do need to drive. The bed in the rooms are more like Queen size than double, very comfortable and clean. Room was good with a good size TV.
We thought the rooms needed to be modern and a little brighter with the decor. Shower was a little slow (who cares as long as you can get a wash under it).
