Feels like a family. Staff are very close and get to know each person staying at the property and are very friendly and welcoming. The pool and beach are are wonderful and the room was lovely with an ocean view. Javier, the bartender makes exceptional drinks and is very professional, in a fun and welcoming way. The staff all around, in all positions, work as a team, and ensure guests have the best stay. And we certainly did. We feel like we made friends for a lifetime at this hotel and are already planning our next stay at Mata Rocks. We loved that bikes, paddle boards, kayaks and pickle ball courts are available and included in the stay. As well, they have paid and fast laundry service too. The chefs make the best food! I highly recommend eating at the hotel, or eating at the inexpensive taco stand across from the hotel after 6pm…so good! We can’t wait to go back and stay at this property! The locals at nearby apartments and hotels all flock to this property for the great and genuine vibes. The atmosphere is intoxicating and so welcoming.
Hearing the pickle ball courts and people playing early in the mornings, would be the only negative if your room is situated near it. Wifi does not work in the rooms, but the signal is stronger outside of the rooms and the restaurant/bar and on the balcony.

Property was nicely kept. The bar/restaurant was fantastic. Staff were very friendly and wonderful.
Room 15–Very small for 2 guests comfortably. The curtains and wall hanging looked like they needed either cleaned or replaced. Pool wasn’t very clean, no fault of the pool keeper. He didn’t seem to have proper equipment. Our BIGGEST dislike was the local pickleball players who met every day at 8am like clock work. Paying guests should not have to endure the noise!

Staff was great. They were very helpful and outgoing
We understand that the property is up for sale. Evidently, the owners are not wanting to spend any expenditures on repairing items. The cable equipment wasn't working. The cable box was replaced, but Evidently, there was something wrong with the replacement. There was something wrong with the blinds on one of the entry windows. A curtain or a shower curtain was hung over the window. What looked like a smoke detector bracket was missing the smoke detector. The 3 table stools are very unsafe and only have 3 legs on them. They are top heavy, which makes them unsafe to sit on them. We had a staff member bring us some chairs to sit on.

The initial atmosphere and ambiance was welcoming and beautiful. We were greeted by Dorell at the front desk and he was incredibly helpful and kind. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The dining/bar and pool area was perfect. Our room was clean and welcoming. I particularly enjoyed the flower petals left on our bed. Room service daily was great! Staff was accommodating and went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. Food and drinks were great. I recommend the Mexican cocktail, its delicious. Hotel offers complimentary paddle boards and kayaks. We used to Kayaks and it was amazing. This hotel offers the perfect balance of relaxation and luxury.
A recommendation would be to offer a little more communication prior to check-in.

Location, quiet but close enough with golf cart to get to center of town. I loved having the private balcony. Having the amenities of a mini kitchen was also great. I drank my coffee every morning and could store leftovers and water in the fridge with the option to reheat food using the microwave. I liked having a fan and the AC in the room. It was great for what I needed. The staff was very accommodating. I will be back!
There was slow Wi-Fi inside the room but a great connection outside of the room. The staff explained this during check-in, so it wasn't a huge shock. The soap dispensers in the shower were either empty or close to empty, but I had my products as well. It would be nice if there were a screen for the sliding door to be left open without worrying about bugs coming in.

We were very pleased with our stay at Mata Rocks. We had friends staying at the Victoria House which is essentially the next resort over and much more pricey. They didn't have room but we were thrilled with our decision. We saved money and loved Mata Rocks. It is super clean, the beds are very comfortable, although we only ate breakfast there, it was really really good. Everyone was beyond nice, we LOVED the pickle ball courts, and the location at the south end of the island (and next to the pricier Victoria House) is the best on the island. Also, there is a new Argentine restaurant essentially across the street that is absolutely delicious, really stand out, special food. We were a group of foodies from NY and LA and all said if it was a restaurant in NY or LA it would be one of our favorites. If you're looking for a nice, comfortable, safe, clean, friendly place in a great location this is your spot.
The Pool is a little sad and if you're expecting to center your stay around pool time, you won't be happy with the pool. It's small, shallow, and there are not chaises around it. Also, the wifi was quite spotty in our rooms. It always worked great outside at the bar/ restaurant or even just by the pool, but sometimes it didn't work at all in the rooms, and other times it was fine in the rooms. Neither of these things bothered us much at all. We weren't there for the pool or the wifi.

Friendly staff, great recommendations, clean facility, Javier, Myrna & Brian were all great. Location was just south of town - a short golf cart ride.
Bar/Kitchen out of many items pretty much every day - not the end of the world though! Would have been nice to have some lounge chairs around the pool - they were all on the beach. I'm sure I could have asked staff to help me move one - they were all very friendly and accommodating!

Good location, great beach bar, pickle ball courts, friendly, accommodating staff. Loved the pop up taco stand across the street.
Rooms needs some attention to small details (water pressure is low and takes a while to heat up), pool is small, sea wall needs repair. However, while we were there they were surveying it for repair.

We stayed at the hotel in the off season and there were not many people staying, so the hotel restaurant was not open for the first night of our stay. However, the hotel helped us find a small restaurant close by that served delicious jerk chicken. The second day of our stay the restaurant opened. The hotel staff were very friendly and dealt with our concerns promptly. For example we wanted a mini fridge, so they brought one in. Our security box was locked, so they opened it. San Pedro has become very noisy because of the hundreds of golf carts that drive around it. I appreciated that Mata Rocks was located further out from central San Pedro and was quiet. A huge bonus for me is the free bicycles that Mata Rocks allows its guests to borrow.
Swimming is off a dock as the water close to shore has a lot of seaweed. The hotel pool is seawater and is not big enough to swim in. But, it is great for having a dip and cool off.

The staff at Mata Rocks are great, really friendly and helpful always, especially Harry and Javier. The bar/restaurant is a nice gathering spot after a day of adventure getting a few locals as well as hotel guests. Good food and accommodating with special requests. Lively but not crazy.
Not the fault of Mata Rocks but good to know when booking-- Belize is really windy, and having never been, we didn't know that. Had we known, I wouldn't have paid extra for a room with a balcony which was impossible to use due to wind. Also the property next door is not currently in use and has let a lot of seaweed and garbage build up which unfortunately was on full view from our room, #10.
