We stayed here before and liked it so came back on this trip. It's changed a little in that the main restaurant has been converted into a separate pub. So there is less disturbance for hotel residents from those drinking at the bar. The resturant area is still attractive with a section in a conservatory style area with glass walls overlooking the main lawn. It's a venue for weddings and other events so may get busy at times. The rooms we have had are all spacious and well equipped with what's to be expected. Food is good, with a light bite option. Is moderate price and in a quiet location close to the east coast and local attractions lie Bamburgh and Durham itself. We would recommend it. Staff are very friendly.

Some parts are looking little tired, but this does not detract from an market feel, created by broad staircase and large chandelier style lights.

Excellent food. Excellent service from staff during all meals. Abigail, Lauren, and the lovely lady with curly hair who served us breakfast for the last two days were so welcoming, helpful, and attentive. The hotel and grounds are lovely. Rooms were beautifully decorated. Lovely, peaceful, picturesque location. Ten minutes taxi ride into Durham city centre.

Tea making facilities within the room were awkward. The kettle etc needs to be in a more accessible space. There were no drawers available apart from a small draw in the side table which meant that we had to keep our things in our suitcases. The hot water tap in the sink doesn't get very hot. More fruit could have been available at breakfast. The pillows were a little flat.

All the hotel staff were friendly, helpful & well presented, Margaret on reception was paticularly good as there was a slight issue with the booking which she sorted quickly on arrival. The room was clean & comfortable & our room had a rainfall shower that was really good. There was a good & varied breakfast choice & all the food was very good. The same applies to the evening meals, the chips were paticularly good. There was ample car parking space & the hotel was a 5 min. drive away from the park & ride making Durham city easily accessible. We would definitely stay there again.

Honestly cannot think of anything that would warrant a bad review.

From entering the hotel I was made to feel welcome. Travelling alone as a female can be quite daunting. I'm disabled & my bag was carried to my room without hesitation. I had to stay in my room as I could not get up & down the stairs again, so ordered room service. Food was delivered piping hot, really tasty. Mushroom bruschetta, mac n cheese! 😋 I had to leave just after 6am so was too early for breakfast, I was given a packed lunch to bring with me, I had a 7 hr journey ahead of me. I stupidly left my handbag in my room, with a large amount of cash & my passport inside! The hotel arranged for it to be returned, special delivery. I really can't praise the hotel staff highly enough! I wish I could have enjoyed the facilities, maybe next time! Huge thanks to the night manager for helping me out. I really hope to be back again. THANKYOU! My room was very stylish, comfy bed, spotless.

Not being able to enjoy the facilities- purely because of my disabilities.

Hotel in OK standard, room in good standard, breakfast very good, staff very friendly and helpfull. great location almost in middle of nowhere. great for longs walks to calm and relax. Some spots on carpets (wash will help). Didn't saw a dust in room.

Bathroom. Standard of bathroom was good, but size. This bathroom wasn't for anyone PLUS size. shower big enough to skinny person to stand in it, not to bend. when using toilet, forget if you are not skinny person. Also in room could do a small chest of draws or small wardrobe where radiator (this can be moved).

The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. My wife has gluten and dairy intolerances and the chef, Fabio, was super helpful. He was able to accommodate and change items on the menu as everything is made fresh. The food in the evening was exceptional. If you’re wanting to sit in the cosy room I would grab a seat early as it was full by the time we had finished dinner. Breakfast was lovely too. Again, accommodating dietary needs without fuss. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy time in Durham and neighbouring areas. Thanks again to all the staff. We would definitely stay again!

One tiny thing to point out, the music in the evening was interrupted every now and again by spotify ads. They may want to pay for premium ;) There was also quite a loud group in the conservatory in the evening, but not the hotels fault by any means.

Country village location and ambience. Premium double was quite spacious and well appointed, except for one thing:- only one easy chair between the two of us Beautiful old building in equally beautiful green wooded setting. Room & bathroom spotlessly clean. Comfortable bed spacious shower. Although not mentioned in booking information, an excellent Full English Breakfast was available on request. Restaurant setting really lovely with the lawned garden with attractive mature trees. Large Car Park, so plenty of room to park safely.

With two guests sharing a room it would have been nice to each have an easy chair to sit in when watching TV. After two requests to reception the Asst Manager brought us a second easy chair. Cannot really fault anything else.

Great room well appointed and very quiet. Very confy bed and warm room. Great bathroom. Easy to find and excellent car parking. This is a real gem of a find Brilliant staff, very welcoming and convivial. A real well sorted bar. Food was excellent with a wide choice and so well prpared and presented. Restaurant looks magical with all the lights on. This is a real feel good venue. The house itself is a treat just go around the rooms and see what's there. We got a taxi to and from Durham Cathedral which was just outstanding.

Nothing it was perfect.

Hotel is a grand old manor house and seems to have been recently refurbished. It's located out of town so you definitely need a car but was only around 15 minutes from Durham city, so it worked out well. Some lovely walks around the hotel - turn left when you leave and just past the lovely old Pittington Church are some public footpaths across the fields. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, the continental breakfast was pretty good too. Rooms were fine, nice strong shower with easily controlled temperature.

Rooms were pretty good though could have done with one or two extra touches. Not much table space and walls were pretty thin - not the hotel's fault but we had a loud snorer next to us and I could hear him all night. Then we had a heavy footed chap so could hear him moving around. Higher rooms were stuffy - no major issue but as we had the window open, we were kept awake by people chatting on the tables in the garden.
